! The family Drusian has been producing wine for three generations in Valdobbiadene in the province of Treviso. The farm is situated on the fertile “Strada del Vino Bianco” .This area is the cradle of the Prosecco wine, now guaranteed by the Consorzio di Tutela del Prosecco di Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. The new winery, built in 1984, is in Bigolino di Valdobbiadene and it is located in the middle of vineyards. Prosecco wine is produced thanks to Francesco’s attention and experience that does not forget the traditional wine-making method, but at the same time, follows the new technologies. The harvest is totally done by hand and the wine, after a soft pressing of grapes, retains all the typical aromas of the Prosecco. It is bottled in the absence of oxygen, in order to keep it fresh and full of aromas of flowers and fruit. Mr. Francesco Drusian’s thought is to consider the quality of his wine as the pure expression of the grapes. This is the reason why he takes care of every single bunch of grapes and decreases all the technical impacts. The harvest is done totally by hand and the grape’s pressing is light and soft in order to preserve this winery as one of the best:

SPUMANTE ROSÈ ROSEMARI Intruing, vivacious and palatable are the characteristics of spumante rosè. It is produced 10% with Pinot Noir and according to Charmat method it has a slow tank fermentation (120-150 days). After that, it also stay a month in bottles. The combination of flavouring and elegance makes this spumante ideal to drink eith fish dishes, particulary sheelfish, and white meat.


The Althea farm produces its own grapes in the “Ru de Confin” estate which is extend for about nine hectares on the old border between Tarzo county and Ceneda, in the Confin place of Vittorio Veneto. We are in the natural amphitheatre hills of morainic origin which the ice “rivers” of the quaternary era has formed. The farm is situated in the one of most evoked zone for the cultivation of the O.C.D. vine between “Prosecco di Conegliano – Valdobbiadene” and “Colli di Conegliano”. Situated in Gradisca d’Isonzo, the estate of Sant’Elena was established by the Klodic, a dignified and powerful family of the region, in the late nineteenth century. At the intersection of NorthEastern Italy and the Slovenian border, in years past Gradisca d’Isonzo was a site of political turmoil, having changed hands from the Hapsburg dynasty, to the Venetians, the AustriaHungarian empire, the Slavs, and finally becoming a part of Italy post-World War II. To this day, one hears numerous languages spoken in the area, including Italian, Slovenian, Friulian, and German, as reflects the region’s storied history. Exactly why the Klodic family chose the name “Sant’Elena” remains a mystery, as no surviving documentation exists. It might have been in honor of Flavia Julia Helena Augusta, mother of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great, credited with having discovered the fragments of the True Cross and the tomb of Jesus at the rock of Golgotha. It also might have been after the mythological figure of Helen of Troy, known for her stunning beauty, and whose abduction brought about the Trojan War. Acquired by Dominic Nocerino in the late nineteen-nineties, Sant’Elena now finds herself on the path to modernity, with the singular goal of producing wines of the highest caliber. With over a century of growing history, Sant’Elena became fully dedicated to wine production as early as the nineteen-sixties, yet significant improvements of the past decade have taken the product’s quality level to new heights. Entirely new vineyards were planted in 2000, and a state-of-the-art cantina now exists, constructed in 2004. Sant’Elena’s ceaseless pursuit of quality is monitored from vineyard to cantina under the guidance of Friulian Winemaker Maurizio Drascek and Enologist Stefano Porcinai.

The strong ruby color introduces elegant aromas of red fruit jam and sweet spice. The mouth is full and longstanding with a fresh finish.

Intense ruby color with exuberant perfumes of fruit, wood, and blackberry. Also presenting underlining aromas of licorice and light tones of coffee. Warm and long in the mouth with interlacing softly balanced tannins.

Our best Merlot grapes produce an incredibly intense reddish purple hue. A rich and complex bouquet submerges the drinker with notes of cherry, cocoa and leather. The long and soothing finish completes the wine’s wellfounded structure.

MERLOT With a vivacious ruby color, this is a wine characterized by ample and elegant perfumes of cherries and roses with hints of chocolate and tobacco. The finish concludes with fresh and soft wellintegrated tannins.

MILROSIS An elegant wine that truly demonstrates the excellence of Friulian whites, the delicate varieties mesh beautifully. Mil Rosis’ roundness and structure can be largely attributed to the French oak brought by the chardonnay. The wine gracefully presents consummate softness, freshness, and delicacy.

PINOT GRIGIO KLODIC What sets the Pinot Grigio Klodic apart from most traditional pinot grigios is its vibrant color and structure. Our Pinot Grigio Klodic is macerated for thirty-six hours to obtain deep color and then left on the lees for six months. A delicate and complex process usually not reserved for the variety, it vaults the Klodic into the top tier of the world’s Pinot Grigios.

An excellent representation of our local terroir. The pinot grigio has a deep straw yellow color with copper hints. Complex and extremely perfumed, the wine shows the characteristic signs of pear, exotic fruit and acacia flowers. Long, persistent, and particularly refreshing.

Quantum is a powerfully rich and elegant wine. Dark cherries, tobacco, and cherries leap out of the glass as the aromas slowly evolve over time in the glass. Velvety and warm in the mouth, the noble tannin finish is a staple characteristic of the indigenous variety.

A well-balanced traditional Sauvignon Blanc, the wine leaves a long-lasting delicate flavor in the mouth. Presenting crisp aromas of fresh fruit and herbs, the wine pairs excellently with seafood or standing on its own.

THE AZIENDA AGRICOLA CASTELLO DI RADDA STANDS ON THE HILL TO THE EAST OF THE VILLAGE OF RADDA IN CHIANTI, BELOW THE CASTLE OF VOLPAIA.

The southeast to southwest-facing vineyards stand on pebbly, medium-textured clay and limestone soil that is particularly suitable for the cultivation of Sangiovese and Canaiolo. In 2003, the Beretta family purchased the property to expand their wine interests, which already included Lo Sparviere, the long-established Franciacorta-based family estate which makes superb classic method Franciacorta sparkling wines. The Berettas’ project for Castello di Radda hinged on improving quality from the 45 hectares under vine and the construction of a large winemaking cellar to plans by the architect Spartaco Mori. Profound respect for the territory and its people led to the creation of a low environmental and energy impact underground cellar carved out of the living rock. The unfaced stone façades, the elegant tasting room in a contemporary Italian idiom, the meticulously tended gardens, the imposingly located Florentine gazebo and the broad portico welcome visitors to a relaxing wine-focused space.

Franciacorta is a land of abbeys and priories with an ancient winemaking tradition that probably dates back to classical times, and has been well documented since the Middle Ages. Located on the south side of Lake Iseo in the province of Brescia, Franciacorta has an exceptionally favourable mild climate, its rolling morainic hills descending gently to the city of Brescia itself. The area was settled in ancient times and its splendid noble residences, palaces, castles, churches and convents stand in captivating natural surroundings. One of these ancient country residences at Monticelli Brusati is the headquarters of the Azienda Agricola Lo Sparviere, owned by the Gussalli Beretta family. The estate sprawls over 150 hectares, of which 30 are planted to vine, mainly chardonnay and pinot nero. The 16th-century building that now houses the winery takes its name from the sparrowhawk, or sparviere, on the coat of arms over the fireplace in the recently refurbished main reception room, now restored to its former glory inside the main residence. Under the ancient vaults of the cellars, Brut, Extra Brut, Satèn and Rosé versions of Franciacorta D.O.C.G. wines are vinified and aged, bringing their fragrance and bubbles to a peak of perfection over at least 25 months. Rigorously selected fruit, sourced exclusively from the estate’s own vineyards, where yields are kept very low, produce the characteristic sensory profile and elegantly poised balance that make Lo Sparviere’s wines so distinctive. Centuries of ingenuity and experience combined with up-to-date vineyard management and state-of-the-art technology are the real secrets behind the wines made at the Azienda Agricola Lo Sparviere.

The nose releases generous fragrances of cherry, blueberry, and other berries, appealingly complemented by typical Cabernet spiciness and smooth, toasty nuances from the cask-ageing.

The wine is made from grapes sourced from two vineyards, Ciusì and Badia, both planted in morainic soils. The clusters are hand-picked into small vessels, and the whole clusters are given a gentle pressing.


From its origins in the early years of the last century, when it was acquired by its current owners, the Azienda Agricola ORLANDI CONTUCCI PONNO has always grown grapes and made wine. Located on the first slopes of the Vomano river valley, a couple of kilometres from the Adriatic and fewer than twenty from the Gran Sasso (2,920 metres), the estate is in a very favourable spot where it benefits from the temperature-moderating effect of the sea and breezes from the lofty mountains that cool the heat of the summer nights. The site climate ensures the vines have the regular vegetative cycle essential to the development of the grape’s sensory characteristics, particularly their fragrances and bouquets. The soil in the estate’s vineyards is gravelly and alluvial in origin, with a limestone-based texture that prompted the selection of special clones of sauvignon, chardonnay and cabernet imported directly from France after analysis showed that the type was entirely similar to soil in one of Bordeaux’s finest areas. In this context, the winery has also taken steps to recover a number of original clones of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, a variety that has been present in the area since the late eighteenth century, selecting the most suitable ones for the soil and site climates. Grown and vinified in compliance with its production protocol, the wine is eminently capable of competing successfully with Italy’s best-balanced wines.

1920s - Domenico Bottega. Distilleria Bottega has a three-generation history of people dealing with wine and grappa. In the 1920s, Domenico Bottega was a wine trader. He was a passionate oenologist and was able to recognise the best grapes when still on the vine. 1950s and '60s - Aldo Bottega. Aldo Bottega shared his father's passion and extended it to grappa too. He made a fruitful apprenticeship with the best master distillers in Conegliano. He learnt the secrets of a fascinating job and he then developed some innovative technical solutions among which the first singlevariety grappa. His innate entrepreneurial spirit led him to set up his own distillery. 1977 - Foundation of Distilleria Bottega. In 1977 Aldo Bottega moved his distillery to Pianzano di Godega (TV) and gave it its final name: Distilleria Bottega. At the end of the '70s it was a small company operating on the local market of grappa. 1983 - Brothers Bottega. After the founder's death, his son Sandro helped by his sister Barbara and his brother Stefano, became the company's manager. A few years later Distilleria Bottega became well known thanks to an innovative distillation system and to the reduction of the alcohol content that makes grappa milder and finer. 1984 - Prosecco single-variety grappa. It was produced using a combined distillation system. 1985 - Blown glass. The first bottle of blown glass was produced. It is the innovative, precious and elegant packaging of grappa. This created a very close link to Venice that became an artistic and cultural point of reference. 1987 - The trademark Alexander was created. The new trademark Alexander is added to the old one Bottega. The former is addressed to increasingly educated and refined consumers, including young people and women. Distilleria Bottega begun to export its goods. 1992 - Prosecco. In the name of tradition, the Wine of Poets, was created. It is a sparkling Prosecco that opened the way to the wine market. 1995 - Fragolino. The tradition of Fragolino, recovered and developed by Distilleria Bottega, enabled the company to increase its turnover remarkably. 2000 - Full Proof Grappa. This year saw the creation of Alexander Platinum, the first Full Proof Grappa, which is bottled at 60° as it comes out of the alembic. It is called “the grappa with variable alcoholic strength” because it can be diluted with water or drunk on the rocks. 2003 - Spray grappa. This grappa contained in a bottle with spraying device has been having great success. It is ideal to perfume coffee, sweets, rice dishes, crustaceans and cigars. 2008 - Amaro Elixir 0°. The company launch a bitter drink (0° alcoholic degree), produced with aloe and Alpine herbs.

ACETO BALSAMICO BIOLOGICO DI MODENA Balsamic vinegar. Organic vinegars are more genuine when compared with the others because the law forbids the use of additives that are used for conventional production in order to avoid deposits on the bottom of the bottle and to stabilize the colour.

VADEMECUM Brut - This is the most modern and internationally popular version. It displays typical aromas of

citrus fruits along with vegetal notes and hints of crusty bread, combined with an attractive liveliness on the palate. It is best served at 7°-9° C, with even quite elaborate fish- or vegetablebased hors d’oeuvres, pasta andr rice dishes featuring seafood, baked fish recipes, or it can be drunk throughout a meal. The residual sugar varies between 0 and 12 g/l.

Extra dry - This is the traditional version. Its colour is bright straw, enlivened by the bubbles of

the perlage. It offers rich scents of apples and pears, together with a hint of citrus fruits that gives way to floral tones. On the palate it is mellow yet crisp thanks to its brisk acidity. Excellent as an aperitif, it is also ideal, served at 8°-10° C, with pulse and seafood soups, pasta dishes with delicately-flavoured meat sauces, creamy cheeses and white meats (especially poultry). The residual sugar varies between 12 and 17 g/l.

Dry - This is the least common version, which highlights the wine’s floral fruitiness. It displays a

pale straw yellow colour, a delicate, fruity fragrance with hints of citrus fruits, white peaches and green apples, and a tangy, refreshing yet mellow flavour. Serve at 7°–8° C. This is a style that lends itself to very particular food matches, such as dry pastries or spicy foods. The residual sugar varies between 17 and 32 g/l.

Superiore Di Cartizze - is the cru of the denomination and comprises a small area of 106

hectares of vines in the steepest hills of San Pietro di Barbozza, Santo Stefano and Saccol, in the commune of Valdobbiadene. It is the result of the perfect combination between a mild microclimate and very varied terrain, including moraines, sandstones and clays, which allow for rapid drainage of rainfall and, at the same time, a constant water supply, thus permitting the vines to develop in a well-balanced manner. “Cartizze” is a sumptuous sparkling wine. Even its colour suggests greater intensity, which also manifests itself in a complex mix of broad and inviting fragrances and flavours, including apples and pears, apricots and citrus fruits, roses and an appealing note of sugared almonds on the finish. Its taste is pleasantly rounded, with a mellow tanginess to which the fine perlage adds a certain vigour. Usually made in the Dry version, it offers a residual sugar level of up to 32 g/l. It goes well with traditional local cakes, shortbread, fruit tarts and flat cakes. Recently, some producers have introduced a Brut style as well.

Il Rive - available only in the fully sparkling style, represent the essence of terroir. They are produced, in fact, exclusively from grapes that come from a single Comune or hamlet/village therein, thus highlighting the characteristics that a particular area confers on its wine. The Rive wines allow one, therefore, to get to know the manifold expressions of Conegliano Valdobbiadene in detail. The term “Rive” indicates, in the local dialect, vineyards that are on steep ground, and the aim of the category is to underline the special quality of – and the many differences between – the various sites within the Denomination. For the “Rive” maximum yields are reduced to 13 tonnes per hectare; the grapes must be picked by hand and the vintage must be shown on the label. In the Conegliano Valdobbiadene zone there are 43 Rive, which offer an equal number of distinct territorial expressions.


Frizzante (Semi-Sparkling) - This is a more informal and straightforward style. When refermented in bottle (sur lie) it is an authentic representative of a long-standing vignerons’ tradition. In most cases, however, this semi-sparkling style is obtained using the Italian Method. It has a characteristic straw colour. On the nose, its aroma displays rich floral and fruity notes and it offers great freshness on the palate. Serve at 8°C; it is ideal as an aperitif, with hors d’oeuvres and with relatively simple pasta or rice dishes.

Tranquillo (Still) - This is the least-known version. It comes from the most densely planted vineyards with the lowest yields, where the grapes are harvested very ripe. Its colour is a delicate straw yellow and its aromas are of apples, pears, almonds and honey. Serve at 8°–10° C with seafood and other hors d’oeuvres.

IGT - Indicazione Geografica Tipica In this category you will find good quality wines that are produced in a specific geographical area. Usually these production zones are larger than those defined for DOC or DOCG. In some cases an entire Italian Region is defined as the IGT zone.

DOCG - Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita This is the category with the strictest regulations. The wine is made from specified grapes grown in very precise vineyard areas; yields and production methods must conform to the regulations governing that zone. Wines in this category are also tasted and approved by a commission of experts.

DOC - Denominazione di Origine Controllata The regulations are very similar but usually less strict than those for DOCG.


DOC & DOCG The law founding the Denominazione di Origine system, No. 930 enacted in 1963, established a DOCG category among the other appellations. The "G" in Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita means "Guaranteed." A new law adopted in 1992, No.164, retained that class of wines and ranked them at a level superior to the other DOC beverages in the pyramid of classification. The point of the change was to establish a presumption of qualitative superiority, beginning with special premium characteristics that should be recognized and a consolidated national and international reputation. The terms used are so relative that it is difficult at times to establish their real significance. But everyone is agreed that the operations stipulated by the DOC regulations, which require quality controls for every shipment, whether in terms of chemical or sensory analysis, and end with the granting of a special numbered seal for each bottle, are so detailed and comprehensive that the costs of these wines must necessarily be fairly high. Because they are extremely complicated, the procedures are difficult to apply and always involve increased expenditure. The reduction of yields produced by adherence to the rules is also costly. The DOCG measures insure that each bottle is counted, providing an exact me asure of produc tion , while the application to each of a special seal makes it difficult to evade the law's requirements. In fact, the DOCG rules prove their worth in all cases in which audit procedures show the precise ratio of bottles to output of grapes and wine. It is without doubt a costly procedure, adapted only to expensive wines. However, admittance to the DOCG category does not serve to position the production of a determined wine-growing area at a higher level on the market. All of the experience accumulated in the field, which by now is substantial, indicates that, if wines lack quality or image, their appeal to the consumer will remain the same whether they are DOC or DOCG products. It is an error to seek reclassification to the DOCG level of a given wine that is linked in consumers'minds with a certain image and price with the hope of elevating its standing and securing a higher price. The perccived quality and image remain the same, while the complications and the cost of complying with the requirements will become a burden on the production system and create problems on the market. In no case has the DOCG helped sales. Therefore, the desire to insert all or part of the production of certain areas in this category is misdirected and irrational. There is no question that costs will be heavier, while there is no assurance that higher prices can be requested. There are already examples of negative results from assignment of the DOCG to areas that were too extensive or to wines that lacked adequate images or prices. In other cases, however, like that of Asti Spumante, the DOCG has functioned well in providing a strict acccunting of the number of bottles produced and, therefore, the amount of wine that undergoes secondary fermentation. It is true that this wine does not command a high price but, at the same time, efficient organization made possible by the substantial industrialization of production has permitted absorption of most of the increased costs. To avoid pointless illusions and establish transparent rules, the National DOC Committee has adopted special standards that should be met by all wines for which admittance to the DOCG category is sought. Obviously, they supplement the law's requirements that the wines be of premium value and have nationwide and international reputations. Among the limits imposed by the Committoe are the following: production of grapes per hectare is set at only 80 quintals (3 56 tons an acre) for red wines and 100 quintals (4.45 tons) for whites and a yield in wine of 70% for reds and 65% for whites, in addition to a higher minimum natural alcohol level, which is intended to encourage producers to concentrate on quality in the vineyard. In setting standards for the assignment of the DOCG, the Committee is acting in the interest of both producers and consumers. For many historic wines of high quality, which meet all the requirements, offer the necessary quality and command adequate prices, the DOCG system functions admirably, providing an accounting of every bottle produced.
