research project that was conducted over the period of 2 years from 2014 to 2016 on the Maspero triangle. Maspero Neighborhood is one of the important neighborhoods in historical Cairo. For the past decades, the government dealt with the area as an economic asset that is more important than the residents of the area. The easiest way for the government is to relocate the residents to public housing on the periphery of Cairo and reuse Maspero neighborhood as a central business district.

“Madd Platform team started to communicate with the residents to find an alternative solution that will add the residents as a primary given in the development equation, by presenting a new plan that includes the residents without the need to relocation or force eviction. Madd team worked closely to local community of Maspero neighborhood to come u with a documentation of the whole process through research and design phases

GRAPHIC WORK AND CURATION

Is concerned with the creation of a story/timeline in the form of a zine using linocut printmaking in addition to other techniques such as drawing, painting, and/or collages. The zine will be focused on a real or imagined memory, could be related to a day in childhood, a recent incident, or a memory connected with a certain object.

Cairo, Leih?! Group exhibition showing visual stories about Cairo - done within a workshop done by the Kawkab el Rasameen and Agnes Michalczyk at MEGAWRA Khalifa

Infinite Comics on the City

The exhibition is curated by Ahmad Borham in collaboration with Mazg. This is a new experiment on many levels. On the narrative level, the visual stories go on in a parallel yet intersecting manner similar to our everyday life in the city. The stories are represented as a spatial installation which gives the spectator more space to indulge into the stories. The exhibition is based on the master thesis by Ahmad Borham which engages with concepts such as resilience, adaptation and selforganization in the traditional city. The stories in this exhibition attempt to reflect on these concepts in a visionary manner inspired by how much the city dwellers can change how it looks through their day to day interactions. The different scenarios were developed in collaboration with the participants during a workshop that lasted one month and a collective tour in the city. The participants were a group of artists from different backgrounds ranging from comics artists to architects who are engaging with visual narratives for the first time.

Memories of the Cities project Developed during Hammana artist house residency in collaboration with visual artists Dima Nachawi and Azza Ezzat

The memory of cities around the world is being continuously erased through the gentrification of its neighborhoods. In all cases, the vibrant image of the everyday life in these neighborhoods lives in the memory of the people who lied there. We aim to excavate, extract and collect these memories through interviews and turn them into visual narratives that combine the fictional with the real to make stories of people in other cities who were resistant/resilient to the violent act of gentrification more visible so that these places stay alive even if they don't exist physically and in order for other places to learn from these experiences.
