SP dynamo system Small, but Powerful Welcome to SP dynamo world! SP is your best choice in dynamo hubs. SP stands for Small but Powerful! We offer the best dynamo hubs built with premium quality. SP found in 2007 and launched dynamo adventure in 2008. We no longer license our dynamo technology to other brands. We also no longer produce OEM dynamo hubs for rebranding by other marks. We now only produce and sell our dynamo hubs under the SP brand. We are aware that you may find hubs of similar appearance and specification on the market. We also caution that we sell our hub dynamos only under the SP brand. When you choose SP for dynamo hubs, please verify that they are true SP products. SP found in 2007, based in Taichung, Taiwan. Mass production for digital camera shutter has been launched. Owing to requests from customers for customized optical tilt inspection equipments, we successfully developed user friendly, highly precise and efficient inspection equipments and sold to some of Taiwan top 10 electronic companies. With advanced micro electronic technology, we successfully developed mini shutter for mobile phone application in end of 2007. Considering our leading electronic mini motor technologies, we started to develop a new, efficient and advanced dynamo for hub application. During the tough developing period, SP design team consistently persisted in its perfection commitment, and successfully created a brand new dynamo invention. This is called polar series alignment dynamo. In Oct 2008, we cooperated with Formula engineering Inc and announced the first generation dynamo hub. In March, the first generation dynamo hub with avant–grade shape and light weight was awarded as annual innovative products in 2009 Taipei bike show. In July, we launched dynamo hub mass production. In December, we successfully developed a smart switch mechanism on dynamo hub. By switch function, SP switchable dynamo hub can be rotated as free as normal hub when switching to power off mode.

In March, the world’s first switchable dynamo hub was awarded as annual innovative products in 2010 Taipei bike show. In June, SP announced the world’s first fish-eyes dynamo headlight by applying plastic aspheric optical lens, which can minimize lighting energy loss and enhance led lighting efficiency. In July, we joined Taiwan bicycle optical and electronic union as a member to cooperate with other partners in advanced product developments. In December, SP has successfully developed the first 8 series proto type sample - the lightest, smallest and most efficient dynamo hub at market. SP has extended LS003/optical fish eye light to 7 different colors to be more personalized for riders. In January, 7 series (switchable) has approved by Germany StVZO. In March, SP has announced 8 series dynamo hub at 2011 Taipei bike show. In July, SP LS003 has approved by Germany StVZO and approval No is K833. In September, SP 8 series has approved by Germany StVZO and approval No is K845.

In January, SP has cooperated worldwide partners to set up retail chains to serve more consumers in many countries. In September, SP PL–8 dynamo hub has launched mass production. In October, Successfully implementation of semi–automatic assembly equipment for dynamos in mass production.

In April, the German KBA officially approves (K961) SV–8, SD–8, SV–8–FB, SD–8–BQR under German StVZO 6V3W for 20” wheel regulation. In August, Shimano officially licenses Centerlock disc brake patent to SP, announcement of the PD–8X, for QR15mm, 6 bolt disc brakes. PD–8X is the most efficient dynamo with 78% efficiency at 15km/h.

In January, announcement of the PL–8X, for QR15mm, centerlock disc brakes. In April, SP moves to a new factory 10 minutes away from old factory. Also located in Taichung. In August, announcement of SP 9 series which is the new lightest and smallest dynamo hub group on the current market. The SV–9–F, for example, weights only 299g and max hub diameter is only 50mm.

In Auguest, to improve the attractiveness of our hub dynamos to a broader audience, we have developed a centerlock version of our 9 series hub dynamo i.e. SL–9 (weight 323g). In Oct 1st, SP stopped the cooperation relationship (global distributor) with KT. And SP started to sell dynamo hubs to all global partners directly.

In March, we announced QR12 thru-axle hub i.e. PD–8X–M (428g, for disc brake) and PL–8X–M (428g, for centerlock brake). In April, we announced PD–8X–110 as the boost hub (QR15 thru-axle, OLD110mm, for 6 bolt disc brake).

In January, we announced PD–8X–150 as the hub for snow bike (OLD150mm). The chase of ideal perfection is always the goal! In addition, we upgraded all 8X series, especially for bearings. Therefore, from January 1st, 2017, all 8X hubs from SP are all new version. Good functions with excellent durability. We only make the best. We continue developing excellent devices for all riders... Attention to minor details creates perfection. The exterior shape is minimalist, but the construction engineering behind it is not. The intelligent light weight design was tempered throughout with painstaking attention to structural performance. The smooth oval shape of the hub was optimised to for balance, while attaining an unprecedented weight only 350g. Beneath the understated experior is a robust and yet sophisticated dynamo core. Variety in colors, flexibility in spoke hole configurations and outstanding performance are its advantages for personal, stylish and purpose-built bikes. It is simple, but not yet not.

Carlos Mazon from Spain, a bike enthusiast, likes riding in different countries and records his trips on his blog. He joined 2015 Trans America Bike Race, 4233 miles Non–stop, and got the 2nd position. From 1st January to 28th May 2014, Carlos rode 10,480km in total. SP PV–8 has accompanied with Carlos more than half of his tour (5870km). Carlos feels almost nothing when riding SP and enjoys the convenience of free power for lighting and mobile charging. Technology should make life simpler. This innovative hub was devised to render a clean and pure silhouette, attain a low weight and yet demanded a sturdy construction. The hub body was engineered based on two hub shells that rely on an intelligent joining construction. This meticulous design enables the hub to withstand the hefty stresses produced by disc brakes, while preserving a simple, clean and pure appearance. But it is also light. The lightest model we have weights in at a mere 375g. It also has an extraordinary dynamo core built inside. Jesse Carlsson finished 2nd in the Tour Divide mountan bike race in June 2013. And he finished 1st in the Trans Am bike race in 2015. Riders in the endurance races typically carry a number of electronic devices, but when trying to achieve big daily mileages, there’s little time to charge these devices. In the past, hub dynamos have been too inefficient for riders to consider in the race. This has changed with the new generation of dynamo technology that SP has been instrumental in bringing to the market.

Xtreme Dynamo Hub The acme of perfection !! The PD-8X is the union of a precision 6V3W dynamo with the modern 15mm thru-axle(6 bolt or centerlock) disc specification …and the new acme of dynamo technology for “Xtreme” use. It is perfected integration of “bleeding edge” technology and muscular aesthetics. Yet the ultimate attainment of 8X remains its superior mechanical performance. Not only the most efficient in its class, the 8X is also the lightest in weight. With premium surface treatment and design, the 8X is gorgeous in motion and striking at standstill. New 8X Is Released In 2017 Our QR12 and QR15 thru axle hubs are required to employ narrower bearings than standard hubs (9mm QR). This is due to the 15mm diameter hollow axle and 6 bolt disc brake specification which simultaneously constrain both the inner and outer diameters of the hub’s bearings. In theory, 15mm suspension folks with QR15 thru-axle hubs should be stronger than standard. In practice, mechanical design limitations have reduced bearing size and thus durability.

SP engineers have devoted considerable time and resources to creating a mechanical design strategy for overcoming this technical challenge. These efforts have culminated in an innovative mechanical design relying on superior quality bearings and precision assembly processes. Our computer aided modeling simulations indicate that we have perfected the interplay between bearing and limited internal space, making the new 8X bearing assembly as durable as the time tested – and proven – 8 Series hubs. Formally released in 2017, we stand behind the newest version of our 8X dynamo hubs.

Ultraslim Dynamo Hub Innovation is all about making self-breakthrough. Undoubtedly, the previous SP 8 series had established many new records in the field of dynamos, in terms of its size, weight, and efficiency. However, further advancement has always been the goal. As a result, SP 9 series has now successfully challenged the 8 series by achieving unprecedented dynamo characteristics. The SP 9 series, the ULTRASLIM dynamos, presents future technology and is able to provide cyclists with the best dynamo performance. The 9 series has demonstrated an enormous improvement from the preceding series. It is innovative in the sense that it is extremely light with an outstanding performance that will certainly surprise you.

A new dimension of riding comfort Every detail has been meticulously considered to accomplish such an enhancement. The premium dynamo construction offers not only a new dimension of riding comfort, but also a dynamic force inside the hub. In addition to its low resistance and ultraslim size, this new series is unbelievably light in weight and incredible efficient. The unique aerodynamic shape of the hub has been optimized to a golf size, while attaining an unprecedented weight only 299g. All models included in the 9 series are related to the number of 9, especially in regard to weight. For example, SV-9-F is for OLD74mm with a weight of only 299g, and SV-9 is for OLD100mm with a weight only 309g.

Size is for sure an issue to consider. Take dynamos for example, the smaller, the better. To create a small dynamo, advanced technique is always the key element that can help manufacture lighter dynamos with better performance. SP has been devoted in the dynamo evolution - from a baseball size to an egg size and from an egg size to a golf size. As promised, it has always been one of SP’s main goals to challenge itself by making continuous breakthroughs in SP dynamo constructions. SP 9 series presents the perfect integration of cutting-edge technology and prospective ideas, making this series ideal and elegant in equal measure. It is not a miracle or a mystery. It is all about SP commitments. The SP 9 series is a slim and light design, which redefines the dynamo characteristics and makes cycling more comfortable and easier than ever before.

Suitable for all different sized wheels SP 9 Series got the approval from new German StVZO 6V1.5W LED regulation from wheel size 20” to 28“. However, its real output is much higher than 1.5W. From wheel size 400mm(16”) to 535mm(20“): The 9 series output perfectly matches German StVZO 6V3W/20” regulation. As can be seen from the table, from wheel size 400mm(16”) to 535mm(20”), the 9 series output is designed to meet StVZO 6V3W regulation. From wheel size 646mm(26”) to 716mm(28”): According to German StVZO 6V3W regulation, it requires 3V output at a low speed of 5km/h. If the 9 series is set on wheel sizes of 646mm(26”) and 716mm(28”), it offers 3V output speed at 5.8km/h and 6.4km/h respectively. To have 3V output, it only needs to slightly increase speed up to 1.4km/h. Furthermore, according to German StVZO 6V3W regulation, it requires 5.7V output at 15km/h. If we set the 9 series on wheel sizes of 646mm(26”) and 716mm(28”), this 9 series offers 5.7V output when speed at 15.7km/h and 17.7 km/h respectively. To have 5.7V output, it only needs to increase speed up to 2.7km/h. As for 6V3W, the German StVZO approved hubs in the current market normally offer 6V3W output when speed around 17km/h. The SP 9 series offers 6V3W output for 646mm(26”) and 716mm(28”) wheels when speed at 16.7km/h and 18.6km/h respectively. Only needs to increase speed up to 1.6km/h. Summary: To sum up, the 9 series with unprecedented dynamo characteristics is the perfect devise for 16” to 20” wheels. The extra values provided by the 9 series, such as its light weight and low drag, are definitely the great advantages for enjoying comfort. Ultra–Endurance Race Solo, self supported race Lots of endurance bike races in the world. They are always in a solo, non stop, self supported races in summer. There is no finish time cut-off. Trans Am bike race is one of the famous endurance races at road bike category. Tour Divide mountain bike race is one of the famous endurance races at mountain bike category. It is always solely under your own wheeled human power with no outside support. Racers must carry everything they need to survive, e.g. warm clothes, wet weather gear, sleeping equipment, food, water and more. As is the case for most bikepacking events, riders are allowed to make use of commercial services along the but support crews or team cars are definitely not allowed. Riders alone have to find their own food and water, sort out bike issues out in the wilderness with frozen hands, carry all the equipment and spares they need to be safe, and find safe places to catch a few hours of sleep along the way…. Tour Divide Mountain Bike Race A non stop, self supported mountain bike race Is a solo, self-supported ultra-cycling challenge to race all 2,745 miles of Adventure Cycling Association’s epic Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. There are no compulsory rest periods or specified distances racers must travel daily. The race clock runs non-stop. He or she who can ride the fastest while making fewer, shorter stops usually wins. With an average time-to-completion of three weeks in the saddle, this grand tour is the longest, most challenging mountain bike race on the planet. It’s a contest for the ultra-fit but only if ultra-prepared for myriad contingencies of backcountry biking. The Great Divide Route is geographically divided into five regions. The diverse nature of the regions makes for an incredible visual, sometimes spiritual experience. Mike Hall

Origin: Harrogate, United Kingdom Our hero forever! Mike Hall, British ultra–endurance star, was born on June 4th, 1981. Not only an organizer of the Transcontinental Race, he also won many endurance races and held multiple records. In 2012, he won the inaugural World Cycle Race. In 2013, he won the Tour Divide Mountain bike race across the Rocky Mountains in Canada and United States. In 2014, he won the inaugural Trans Am Bike Race, a road–based event spanning the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of the United States. He joined the Tour Divide Mountain Race again in 2016, and championed setting a new record of 13 days, 22 hours and 50 minutes. Mike started racing mountain bikes as a teenager. His first ultra-distance self-supported race was the Tour Divide in 2011–he acquired a knee injury but still finished the race. He then won a major ultra–distance event every year for the next three years.

He started the Indian Pacific Wheel Race covering 5500 kilometers from Perth to Sydney on March 18, 2017. However, due to tragedy, the event was cancelled on March 31st, 2017. At 6:30 in the morning on March 31st, He was killed in a car accident on the outskirts of Canberra. The 35–year–old was in second place at the time. “I’ ve been thinking that I can’ t stay awake because I’ m just really tired. But it’ s just the fact I can’ t see in the dark properly – my eyes are nailed” he noted in a Facebook entry on March 30, 2017. “It gets dark and all the glare of the light hitting the signage and road furniture just swirls around and blurs,” he had spent his energy cycling. Below is the information written by Jesse Carlsson. She was the first woman to "everest" a mountain by bike. She did it by riding up Mount Buffalo eight times in 18 hours, notching up 9,031 metres of climbing along the way. Since then she's completed a few more everesting missions, both on and off roads. In late 2015 she rode non-stop 800 km from Melbourne to Adelaide in thirty-something hours. Sarah is new to ultra-endurance racing and this will be her first ultra-endurance race. Sure she doesn't have the experience of her competitors but that could work in her favour. She'll do things in her way, learning as she goes. She's proven plenty of times that she's tough enough to deal with the suffering that she'll face along the way.

WARRANTY Warranty period: 2-year warranty: SP products are covered under a 2-year warranty period beginning from the original date of purchase. Poof of the original purchase date is required for warranty service. If you have any inquiries or you need service, please contact to the place you ordered. Or you can contact to SP directly. We are all friendly and happy to offer the best service to you. Warranty limitations: During the warranty period, SP will provide warranty service for SP products that fail under proper use in normal environments, pursuant to the following terms and conditions: The warranty does not apply to any SP product failure caused by any accident, abuse, mishandling, improper usage (including use contrary to the product description or instructions, beyond the extent of the product’s intended use, or for tooling or testing purpose), alteration, abnormal mechanical or environmental condition, acts of nature or improper installation. Unauthorized repair or modification will void this warranty. This includes any form of disassembly of the hub or its parts. This warranty shall not apply to the transferees of SP products and/or anyone who may profit from this warranty. Before using SP dynamo hubs, please ensure proper installation. From our experience, the hub can be damaged by mis-installation. Please be careful for below informaiton. Please make sure that the hub is properly fastened to your fork. If the QR is not fastened enough, it may cause problems. Check to see that wiring is properly installed with our included connector. Whwn finishing connector plug installation, you need to plug into the plug base on hub. Howeverm sometimes, the plug base on hub may be toward to bad position and you would like to adjust it and then you can plug it easily. Please must loose the QR first. Then you can adjust the connector base direction. After you get good direction, then fasten your QR and you can plug in the connector. Under normal riding conditions, your hub is covered under SP warranty for 2 years. During the 2–year warranty period, if you have any issues, please contact SP or your retailer. If your issue results from defect and cannot be resolved after contacting SP, please send your hub back to SP. You will need to cover the cost of shipment to SP facilities. Depending on circumstances, we will either repair or offer you a new hub. Warrantied hubs will be sent back to customers via DHL International Express as our expense.

Repair and replacement guidelines: For products purchased from an authorized SP distributor or reseller, customers must contact the original seller if SP products cease to function or an abnormal condition occurs. Describe the condition to seller so the seller is able to assess whether the problem is covered under warranty. If the claim meets warranty conditions, please arrange to send it back to seller. SP retains sole discretion on whether to repair or replace warrantee items with a refurbished product or functional equivalent. The decision made by SP shall be final. For products purchased from SP directly, please contact SP directly. If a defective product is out of the warranty period or does not meet warranty conditions, please contact SP directly for out-of-warranty service solutions. During warranty period, SP offers to service bearings that are not defective but have simply worn out due to prolonged use. SP will charge only shipping cost for this service.
