Whether used as a private residence, museum or re-purposed as a boutique hotel: these palazzos & villas embody a unique fusion, inside and out. The collection draws inspiration from the Baroque to Neoclassical features, to the Persian rugs and Italian marble which adorn these magnificent locations.

Salvatore’s Story
SALVATORE’S STORY The Gagliardi and Bortex brands are built around the story of one man and his experiences – his ambitions and his dreams, his innate sense of good taste and his zest for life. Salvatore Borg was drafted into the British Army to fight the Second World War, but when peace returned, the poverty in the small Mediterranean island of his birth forced Salvatore to leave its shores to seek his fortune. He joined the Merchant Navy, travelled the world, prospered, and soon acquired a taste for the finer things in life. He spent many years in Italy, where he enjoyed good food, fine wines, music and art, but above all else, he enjoyed wearing beautifully - tailored garments made from the finest Italian wools, linens and cottons. Whilst in Italy, he also acquired a nickname and became known to his many friends as “Il Gagliardi”. Returning to his native Malta in the early sixties, Salvatore decided to go into business setting up his own tailoring workshop in a small garage close to his hometown. Initially, he sold his products locally but before long he began exporting too. In 1964, Bortex and the Gagliardi brand were born, encapsulating the spirit of their creator. Salvatore wanted his tailoring to follow the softer, more elegant lines of the clothes he and his friends had worn during his years in Italy, but at the same time he also loved the more formal British look that he had seen on Savile Row during his frequent trips to London. He wanted Gagliardi tailoring to be a fusion of the two influences but with its own distinct identity, and the brand itself to not only be an expression of his personal tastes but also a means of telling the story of the brave little island he called home and which he loved so dearly. Salvatore continued to travel to Italy frequently and, over the years, he managed to build partnerships with some of the most important fabric mills from the famous district of Biella, close to the beautiful Lake Como, which supplied him with his raw materials. As his customer base grew along the years, the workshop in Malta gradually became a factory employing hundreds of seamstresses, and one of the Island’s leading exporters. Salvatore worked hard, married and had a family, but also continued to cultivate his mind. He read extensively about the rich history of his island home, and about Mediterranean culture and its exquisite tastes and fineries. In the fullness of time, the first Gagliardi store was opened, and Salvatore made sure that it didn’t only offer the finest quality tailoring, but that the whole Gagliardi concept would tell his story, and that of his Island, to the world. That story permeates not only the furnishings inside his ever-growing number of stores, but also the features in his garments. The legacy Salvatore created is a celebration of his life and of his dreams, which the second and third generations of his family proudly continue to build upon today.

Gagliardi
Gagliardi
The Maltese Brand Inspired by the gregarious character ‘il Gagliardi’, the brand embodies the timeless appeal of Savile Row, but remains true to its Mediterranean roots thanks to its distinctive flair and penchant for rich colour. The Gagliardi manifesto is simple yet effective, and seeks to combine the quirks of modern fashion, on-trend cuts, seasonal shades and varied textures with a blend of luxurious, meticulously-sourced fabrics and a no-nonsense, old-fashioned approach to quality. The result is a rarity in menswear: realistically-cut clothes that are shot through with clever little touches usually confined to catwalk collections. Equally at home on the Florentine catwalks, as on the sun strewn streets of Milan, Rome and Capri, Gagliardi has consistently brought casual refinement to the old-world city of Valetta, where the brand was born. The Gagliardi garments have been designed by the in-house design team since the first collection, which had launched in the Spring/Summer season of 2012 with suits, jackets, shirts, ties, pocket squares and footwear. The full range now also includes accessories, knitwear, polo shirts and outerwear. Innovation underpins the very heart of the Gagliardi ethos. For the last two seasons, the team has also worked tirelessly on the Gagliardi Viatorem Technical Range, a collection which is imbued with elegance and sartorial style, but equally invested in the convenient technical features required by the modern man. Inspired by technology often associated with outerwear, our team has taken this expertise and given our wool and traditional tailored fabrics a technical spin.
... and overseas
Gagliardi’s physical presence is felt not only in Malta but also within various other countries around the world. In February 2013, Gagliardi started trading in Dublin, Ireland. The list now extends to include multiple outlets in Serbia, Russia, Sweden, the UK, and the latest addition, Poland. The store in Poland opened its doors on Thursday, 23rd May 2019 at the Galeria Młociny in Warsaw, showcasing all that Gagliardi encompasses and stands for with the latest shop fittings and in-store technology. This store is a prime showcase of how far the brand has come.

From The Office To Christmas Drinks In A Flash
From The Office to Christmas Drinks in a flash It’s December, you’ve got plans all the way up to your eyeballs, and you don’t have time to run home and make a quick outfit change. You’ve been in the same suit since 8am, but you don’t want to rock up to the bar looking like a data scientist (even if you are one)! So we’re laying out three ways to take your outfit from office to off-duty with a few quick changes!
A quick and easy way to transform an outfit is as simple as removing your suit jacket and letting your other layers stand out!
Ditch the tie, and undo two shirt buttons!
A zip neck jumper is smart yet understated and will surely keep you warm as it is made from a gorgeous, Italian cotton wool blend.
Toned down, a suit can be worn anywhere! Switch your shirt for a roll neck, which can easily be stored in your briefcase or desk drawer during the day and whipped out when it hits 5pm.
Sneakers can add a more laidback feel if you’re just heading to casual drinks...
.... or opt for a pair of double monks which can also be worn to the office.
Waistcoats make for perfect layering pieces when it gets a bit colder, but they can also be the statement item of the entire look! Ditch the jacket and expose a classic clean-cut number or opt for a patterned option for more of an impact.
It’s time to start loafing! Swap out your lace-ups for a pair of loafers to finish off the look. The exposed ankles make for a more easy-going look.
Lastly, remove your tie, pop open two buttons and roll up your sleeves... Your manager isn’t around anymore!

Five Top Stylish Christmas Movies
Five Top Stylish Christmas Movies
From Scrooged to It’s a Wonderful Life, we’ve rounded up five films everyone should watch during the holidays!
Scrooged (1988)
Bill Murray as Frank Cross in this modern take on Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol may be an utter curmudgeon, but at least he’s well-dressed! Cross is given a second chance at righting his wrongs and re-evaluating his actions, when he is visited by a series of ghosts on Christmas Eve.
It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
GST241 Dark Indigo Prince of Wales Check Suit
GT86795B
Blue with Medallion Print Tie
The Holiday (2006)
GJ647
Ok, ok, we had to include one full-on soppy option! The Holiday follows two women played by Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet on their home-swap adventure during Christmas, with the aim of getting away from the men in their lives! Little do they know what lies ahead when they cross paths with Graham (Jude Law) and Miles (Jack Black). Jude Law exudes laidback British style throughout and we’re actually a little envious of how effortlessly he can pull anything off!
Navy Plain Cashmere Coat
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)
This may not be the one to watch with all the family! The directorial debut of Shane Black sees us through an action movie with Christmas as a backdrop, which is a trend in most of his movies. At one point, Downey Jr is energetically tortured with electrodes attached to his genitals, while Mr Kilmer protests, “Give the guy a break – it’s Christmas, you know.” Puts those sprouts into perspective. The tearjerker from our top five! It’s a Wonderful life follows George Bailey played by James Stewart, who manages to remain a consistently sharp dresser even in the face of adversity in this heart-warming classic. Its director, Frank Capra, showed it to his own family every Christmas for the rest of his own long life.
The Thin Man (1934)
Whilst The Thin Man may not be a heart-warming Christmas flick, it follows a murder mystery set during Christmas time in New York City. Whether you’re watching it for the stylish William Powell as the detective Nick Charles, or you’re simply captivated by murder narratives, you’ll be in for a treat! Ask Gagliardi
Ask Gagliardi
We asked you for your questions on our social media channels, and we’ve selected a few! Q. When should you or shouldn’t you wear a pocket square? A. A pocket square can be worn for any outing, it all comes down to adapting the fabric and design to the type of event. Q. What type of shirt goes with an evening bow tie? A. An evening bow tie would most likely be worn to a formal event. To complete the full ensemble a wing collar shirt is the ideal choice!
Q. When should you wear a waistcoat? A. In reality, a waistcoat can be worn for any occasion. At the workplace or for a wedding you can opt for a full three-piece suit, whereas for a casual weekend setting you could pair a patterned style with jeans or chinos!
Q. Can you wear brown shoes with a grey suit? A. With a Charcoal Grey we would opt for black, however with lighter shades of grey fabric, brown is a great option! Burgundy is also a great option which is not frequently worn. Q. How should a suit be buttoned? A. Some gents think these rules are outdated, but in fact buttoning your suit the right way actually makes the suit look better and most of all shows you have an eye for detail! The main guide to follow is: single button – always fastened two button – top button is always fastened, and lower button is never fastened three button – top button is optional, middle buttons is always fastened and lower button is never fastened
