Issue 2 (March 2020)

Letter From The CEO

The season of mercury, aqua and aperol spritz. We talk about the semiotic of colour in fashion; well we think feelings emitted from clear blue skies and golden rays provide the perfect mood setter for the seasonal mecca that we call Spring / Summer. Envisaging cliff side drives in classic cars, moonlit black tie balls, beachside ‘boho’ chic BBQ's, palatial weddings or a 21st century nod to office cool, the Gagliardi customer is equally well provided for. In this issue we pay homage to the colours of the Maltese land and seascapes; and in typical fashion the Spring / Summer collection pays tribute to its inspiration with typical aplomb. We hope the products on offer in this issue will inspire you to go forth in style!

Introduction to SS20 Collection

Issue 2 (March 2020)

Gagliardi Spring / Summer 2020 Collection For our last collection (AW19/20) we drew our inspiration from the interiors of a typical Maltese Palazzo. For the Spring / Summer 2020 range, we’ve turned our attention to the outdoors; to the colours and vivacity of Summer in the Maltese Islands.

The dawning of a new day, the ‘besh besh’, brings the promise of a day full of Mediterranean flavours and fun. History, beaches, sailing, watersports and diving by day, and outdoor theatre, nightclubs and al fresco dining by night, en route you’ll see the scrublands separating the villages with their brightly coloured flags for the ‘festa,’ flapping from the houses for the celebrations that build up over a week, and culminate with a joyous street party and fireworks.

The limestone that is prevalent in the buildings is quarried in the centre of the country and is seen raw along the shores of beaches like St Thomas Bay and at the magnificent Dingli Cliffs, it’s the perfect base to carry the colours of our Summer collection; teal, sea blues, sunset gold and orange, raspberry, peach and mint.

Colour Inspiration

Colour Inspiration The Colours of Malta

Gagliardi Journal

Issue 2 (March 2020)

The first part of our collection draws inspiration from the myriad of shades and hues of the Mediterranean Sea, from the deepest blues, tempting teals, vibrant aquamarines and shades of jade that surround our islands. Polo shirts and knitwear in soft woven natural fabrics and floral shirts in cool cotton and 100% linen, take their cue from local flora and fauna. Blended linen waistcoats in plain or pattern and unstructured weekend jackets that coordinate with the chinos and five pocket range of trousers that combined, take you from sunrise to sunset.

Issue 2 (March 2020)

The second part of the collection embraces the hours after sunset. Opulent shades of red, burned orange and rich gold, which fill the sky as the sun goes down, and then the lights which adorn the churches, decorated to celebrate the village ‘festa’ go on, and the night sky is brought back to life with firework displays as the backdrop to parties on both land and sea. Wear a polo shirt or one of our 100% linen or cotton shirts with a 100% linen or a linen blend jacket and have a scarf or a piece of our sumptuous knitwear draped over your shoulders, to ensure you’re ready to layer up – yourself or your date - after dusk.

Adventum

Issue 2 (March 2020)

Workwear inspired Capsule Collection Smart and functional, the jacket to travel and revel in is the new take on the Safari jacket. It gives ample pocket space for passports, airpods, tablet, phone etc., It takes you through the spring and throughout summer, as the heavy linen in Mediterranean olive green, gives you the look of a well-travelled gent, that can take on any situation. Our natural linen ‘shirt jacket’ adds weight for a summer evening and can be worn over a series of layers; polo shirts, waistcoats, knitwear and for a street wear look, over a fine-knit hoodie. A lighter version is available as an overshirt in garment-dyed cotton in navy or olive, which worn over a t-shirt with shorts or weekend wear trousers, gives a layer of protection from the sun and sea breeze if on a boat.

Summer Material

Summer Material Linen

Issue 2 (March 2020)

Linen blends

Linen blended with cotton reduces creasing and gives more structure, but maximises the coolness of linen itself. Linen blended with wool which makes it breathable for the warmer weather. The fabric is made by Italy’s Leomaster Mill which has been established since 1958 in Prato, which is a village known for the production of many of our jacket fabrics and wool.

GJ064

GJ1025

Delave Linen involves a special dyeing process whereby the fabric is washed after weaving and before making the garment. This process means the colour fades out to give it a vintage feel with subtle variations of shade. It is super breathable for the warmer Summer months.

Boucle

Mouline

Boucle was made famous by Chanel in the 1950’s and on close inspection you can see the loops that are formed on each warp to create its unique texture.

This fabric is created by twisting two yarns while weaving. Made in Italy, we use this for jackets, waistcoats and trousers.

How to care for your collection

Knitwear

The knitwear is made from 50% cotton and 50% modal which is an eco-friendly and 100% biodegradable fibre which is slowly replacing cotton. It is made in Italy.

The labels will give you full instructions for each item but as a general rule: Linen - We advise for all linen and linen blends to be professionally dry cleaned

GK501

Cotton - Can be washed by hand or in a machine. The settings of your machine should allow you to choose the temperature, ideally go for the coolest. If an item is stained, use club soda to remove it but do a patch test in an inconspicuous area first. Ideally, get a professional to do any stain removal. Knitwear - A cool wash and flat drying is recommended unless otherwise stated on the label. Iron according to the predominant fabric. Boucle, Sable and Wool blend all need professional dry cleaning.

Highlighting our Cufflinks

Issue 2 (March 2020)

Highlighting our Cufflinks

GC345

The summer is an opportunity to add a touch of humour and a splash of pattern to your wardrobe with our range of accessories, from pocket squares, ties, bow ties to scarves that match your character. This season’s collection includes floral, geometric, stripes and nature, that complement the season’s palette of sea blues and the rich colours of the ‘festa’ and fireworks.

Cufflinks give an insight into a man’s personality and come in a variety of styles including themed and personalised. They are worn with a double cuff shirt, you don’t need to wear a tie. For a chic summer look, wear with an open collar shirt and a hankie. This season, we have looked to the sea and have designed a range of cufflinks in the forms of boats to seahorses, whimsical lobsters, starfish and dolphins, and are made in coated brass with colour detail in resin. A collection of cufflinks to suit any occasion can be built up over time; they become a talking point and are a great ice breaker in tricky networking situations.

How to fit cufflinks: 1. With your arm extended, use your opposite hand to fold your fold the cuff back. 2. Hold the cuffs together so you have the 4 holes lined up. 3. Straighten the swivel pin of your cufflinks and slip through the holes – the cufflink head should be on the outer edge of the sleeve.

4. Secure the pin by swiveling it 90 degrees to form a bar across the holes.
