Mission Statement B.O.S.S. eMagazine (Be your Own Success Story) is an informative educational resource magazine that focuses on preparing for college, how to be successful in college, boosting self-esteem, highlighting “BOSSES� in their respective fields, and showcasing students who are becoming their own success stories. B.O.S.S. offers the target audience information about higher education, educational alternatives, and future careers. The content not only provides information, but serves as a motivational platform for the audience to pursue education and achieve success.
Advertiser Invitation In over 43 years, there has not been a successful, “non- entertainment,” nationally distributed magazine for AfricanAmericans since the founding of Black Enterprise in 1970. This is important because B.O.S.S. will change the dynamics of the images being propelled in the media. Positive, educational, entrepreneurial, motivating messages available each month can change the path of African- American and minority youth. By encouraging “education” on such a large platform, B.O.S.S. will change the mentality of the young African- American student. After securing a contract from Ingram Content for print publication, we launched our first print issue on May 1. The results have been phenomenal. Not with just the numbers but the response from our audience! “Much needed”, “Breathe of fresh air”, “Extraordinary, now I have something I can read with my kids without being worried about the content”, “This will change the images that our young people see, and want to emulate.” These are just a few of the extraordinary responses we have received since the inaugural print publication. According to Issuu.com, we have a current readership of 155,000 and millions of media impressions across all of our social media platforms, with an 8% growth rate per month. Throughout the first 17 issues of B.O.S.S. eMagazine, promoting across the two major social media platforms- Facebook and Twitter- the places our target audience are present the most, we have direct contact with over 100,000 followers/friends. With such a great current audience, along with potentials readers, we continue to push the envelope for social media advertising. This includes taking advantage of the paid advertising opportunities present on Facebook and Twitter to reach individuals who are not readily accessible through our own social network. With a strong and committed marketing team, we have gained a following that continues to grow and has the potential reach over 300,000 people per day! With our website beginning to gain attention, www.BOSS-Emag.com has averaged 1,000 hits per week. B.O.S.S. has a strong radio promotional partnership with Cyrus Radio; A small, but effective company which caters to followers of their brand with over 100,000 followers!
Events Events are a very important part of our goal to motivate our target audience. Not only to share the importance of education, but also our readers’ importance in society and the role that they play when it comes to interacting with their peers. Through attending and coordinating events, we are able to interact with our target audience. By reaching out to middle school to college aged students, we are able to find out what their needs and wants are, firsthand. This way, we are able to create content that is meaningful, valuable, and interesting for our readers. Our list of events extend from charity walks and fashion shows to anti-bullying rallies to after-school programs. Our being a part of these events allows readers to know who we are as college students, graduates, and individuals actually living their success stories.
Branding
In an effort to expand the B.O.S.S. brand and efforts, we have developed B.O.S.S. Apparel that was released in October 2013. We believe that it was important to find additional ways to successfully influence our target audience. B.O.S.S. Apparel t-shirts will showcase educationally themed messages and include the official logo on each shirt.
