Boston Edition Part 2
Grrl Haus Cinema is a program that provides a platform for women filmmakers and video artists. They represent a mix of local, national, and international women who create in a variety of disciplines and genres, with the sole medium being video, cinema. Although beginning as an annual event at Brattle Theatre, Grrl Haus Cinema is now an international concern, showcasing work at theaters and popups across the country and abroad. The Brattle event includes musical performances, video art installations, and local Boston vendors. A couple days later, Grrl Haus takes over at the Dorchester Art Project. That event will feature live performances from local greats Littlefoot and Electric Street Queens. With a focus on DIY, experimental, and low-budget works, there is an atmosphere that is when reminiscent of French New Wave or punk rock. 12/12 8PM & Likewise, Grrl Haus Cinema showcases 12/14 8PM underrepresented voices in an industry typically dominated by men and marketwhere ability. At a Grrl Haus Cinema BRATTLE event, anything is possible and & DAP anything can happen, as they how much break down the traditional $OME COSTBD boundaries of filmmaking. —NICHOLAS PERRY

In 2018, the privacy of online denizens is almost entirely gone with international corporations monetizing your every move at the best and providing shady governments and interested parties personal information at the worst. In truth, the 5th amendment only protects citizens from unwarranted searches by the government (usually). Whoops, you caught me prattling on my soapbox about something larger than an app itself again: what to do? DuckDuckGo (DDG) is a search alternative to the likes of Google, Bing, Yahoo, Askjeeves (are they still around?) and others, however, DDG promises not to track its users and also offers up the same results no matter who you are to avoid the filter bubble effect. For anyone like me who is trying to avoid the millions of creepy ways Google, Facebook, et al. are trying to track you, having a reliable and useful search alternative is mandatory. In keeping with DDG’s mission of personal privacy, DDG Privacy Browser doesn’t save your personal information, has built in anti-tracking tools to avoid ad networks and furthermore assigns a ‘Privacy Grade’ to the website you’re visiting based on whether that website is trying to track you or not. DDG Privacy Browser really shines just for quick searches when you want to look something up without the expectation that one or two innocuous searches will follow you around for the rest of your life. You can find this Rad App on the Play Store or F-Droid. —DLM

Before Sir Anthony Hopkins was a world famous actor, garnering fame for portraying one of the all time great villains, Hannibal Lecter, he was a driftless young man, a poor student more interested in expressing himself through painting, acting and music than sitting in a classroom. One gloomy day in 1964, Anthony was tickling the ivories in the green room of the Liverpool Playhouse, when someone walked in and asked what he was playing. Bashfully, Anthony said it was something he wrote and the person encouraged him to write it down, so he did, and “The Waltz Goes On” was composed, but never performed. That was until it got into the hands of “The King Of the Waltz” André Rieu. Mr. Rieu was surprised when a score by Sir Anthony Hopkins crossed his desk. “A lot of people send me their waltzes – every week, in fact. But when I got a call from my office early last year, I was surprised when they said Sir Anthony Hopkins was sending me one, as I didn't know he had a musical side. But I figured a man like him wouldn't send me a bad waltz.“ Hopkins’ wife had secretly sent the score to Rieu, after they watched him perform on TV, with Anthony expressing his desire to have the waltz performed in Vienna.
