00 what? What hundred? Issues? Dang, have we got issues! Our biggest issue (‘ceptin’ this one) is that we are obsessed with culture stuff. New England and Boston DIY. Independent everything. Strange and unusual. The fringe. That’s all it is, folks. The Compass is made by people who care, shoveling sand against the tide just cause it improves the ride. It’s a testament to our region’s deeply radical nature. People come and go from this city, but there’s a core of lifers who you can’t count out. If nothing else, the fact that The Compass has made it to 100 issues (after 100 months of work from hundreds of volunteer editors, writers, and artists) is a testament to the toughness of YOU FOLKS who actually read the dang thing and genuinely wonder what's going down. osition to the mainOur existence also represents an opp al age completely. stream, a refusal to give in to the digit just because it’s love Why should we give up on what we may have no We ical? sens non completely economically g is, but we thin this of ip ersh read al actu idea what the ld needs wor the k believe it’s worth the effort. une means 100 issues of the Compass. But it also means 6 months since we took over operations at Dorchester Art Project! DAP is many things, and we are making it into more things all the time. It is an art gallery, it is a zine library, we have 12 artist studios and a stage and a PA system. We’re on the second floor of a Vietnamese cafe. We are down the street from an amazing dollar store and a Public Library. Up here you can draw on the walls and organize a show to make noise with your friends. Here are some of the things you could find at DAP on any given day or night: a DJ night, a birthday party, a gallery opening, an artist working on a painting in their studio, a meeting, a music workshop, a play. And whatever else you can dream up. ----------->We want to hear about it! <-------------DAP is our headquarters at Brain Arts, so we hang out here a lot. And you can too! This is 100% a “Place You Can Hang”. We want this to be a place where communities come together. Over the past six months I can really say it’s amazing what you can grow when you just have a space to be. Come be with us ! The more involved you are the more it becomes your space too. Drop us a line at dorchesterartproject@gmail.com and say hey. —Emma Leavitt
