TRAVEL IS "TRENDING" I love the newly-minted use of the word “trending.” What’s trending in fashion? Who’s trending in popularity, etc.? And now, what destinations and experiences are “trending” in travel! Well, it turns out that a compilation of surveys seems to confirm that European river cruising, Iceland, Cuba, America’s National Parks and Italy are all “trending” this year. Happily, this edition of CLUBMail offers the best possible ways to enjoy most of them! Starting with cruising, inside you’ll find our picks for some of the best river cruises—and the best values—available. While Avalon remains our preferred cruise provider, we have added several truly unique itineraries from CroisiEurope, the oldest river cruise company in Europe and a pioneer in this travel niche. Croisi’s smaller ships allow travelers to explore smaller rivers, and be more engaged with local sites and local cuisine. Then there’s Iceland. A short, non-stop hop from Boston, plus the allure of the astonishing “northern lights” keeps this destination near the top of every traveler’s “must-see” list. (Check out our classic Iceland adventure on page 63.) Italy? When is Italy not “trending”? Our Italy tours remain an industry standard for excellence and value and our member reviews are always outstanding. What’s “trending” on your list? Give us a call. We’ll help make it happen. Happy Travels, Tim Montgomery

TRAVELER REVIEWS Lakes & Villages of Northern Italy, September 2016 I enjoyed this, my fourth trip to Italy. The hotel was fine. The guide was very good. The value was there. —Susan E. March 2017 I love to travel with The Travel Club/Show of the Month. I found it to be a great value with airfare and some meals included on some of the trips. They have wonderful tour managers and they use local tour guides that have a great knowledge of the lovely cities. I have taken at least one or two trips a year with The Travel Club. They have a wonderful and very helpful staff. They are always accommodating and will assist the customer. The Travel Club is great for the single traveler, retiree, couples and family groups. You will meet great people to travel together and remain great friends. They offer a great selection of trips abroad, cruises and short trips within the USA. You will be able to find a trip to fit your tastes, so check the new catalog and travel. —Facebook reviewer, 5 Stars

February 2017 I've enjoyed the Travel Club trips for more than 30 years! They arrange trips that hit the sweet spot of great value with good people. This is a real club where they care about the members experiences. I know they read the feedback each traveler is asked to provide after the trip. Often based on feedback they improve the trip! I'm already signed up for my next trip. —Facebook reviewer, 5 Stars

BROADWAY ’S BIGGEST NEW HIT!
FINDING NEVERLAND Playing: August 8–20, 2017 Order by: July 2, 2017 Run time: 2 hrs. 35 min.
Finding Neverland is Broadway’s biggest new hit and the winner of Broadway.com’s Audience Choice Award for Best Musical! This breathtaking smash “captures the kid-atheart” (Time Magazine). Vogue cheers, “it’s a must-see you’ll remember for years to come!” Directed by visionary Tony Award winner Diane Paulus, Finding Neverland tells the incredible story behind one of the world’s most beloved characters: Peter Pan. Playwright J.M. Barrie struggles to find inspiration until he meets four young brothers and their beautiful widowed mother. Spellbound by the boys’ enchanting make-believe adventures, he sets out to write a play that will astound London theatergoers. With a little bit of pixie dust and a lot of faith, Barrie takes this monumental leap, leaving his old world behind for Neverland where nothing is impossible and the wonder of childhood lasts forever. The magic of Barrie’s classic tale springs spectacularly to life in this heartwarming theatrical event. Finding Neverland is “far and away the best musical of the year!” (NPR).

Based on Alison Bechdel’s best-selling graphic memoir, Fun Home introduces us to Alison at three different ages, as she explores and unravels the many mysteries of her childhood. “PARIS IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA.” — AUDREY HEPBURN. Hundreds of Club members have travelled to Paris with us over the years and this Travel Club classic remains one of the best values in travel today! We’ll stay in the heart of Montparnasse, located along the northern edge of the 14th arrondissement, known for its lively nightlife, much of which is based around historic brasseries like La Coupole, La Rotonde and Le Select. Once a warren of artists’ studios and swinging cafés, this neighborhood takes you back to the café society of the early 20th century— imagine having a drink with Picasso, Modigliani, Hemingway, Man Ray or Trotsky. Don’t miss the rooftop terrace of Tour Montparnasse for the best panoramic view of the city and treat yourself to a cocktail at Le Bar Américain on the 56th floor. The Hotel Catalogne Paris Gare Montparnasse is located in the heart of the 14th arrondissement of Paris, an area with plenty to see and do and some surprises too! Montparnasse is to the south of Paris, on the left bank of the Seine. Just a 10 minute walk from the hotel will take you to numerous tourist and cultural sites, including museums, institutes, the cemetery of Montparnasse, Tour Montparnasse, etc. Not forgetting picturesque old Paris with its cobbled streets and village feel, such as Rue Des Thermopyles. Lastly, for foodies in search of France’s culinary traditions, the area is full of excellent small restaurants to explore during your stay in Paris. You may want to visit Rue d’Odessa for its countless pancake houses (a specialty from France’s Brittany region) and the pedestrianized Rue Daguerre.
