IMPOSSIBLE! T

hat’s what many of our travelers say when they try to duplicate one of our trips—for the same price. It can’t be done! The Travel Club is justly famous for planning wonderful trips at affordable prices. Our now legendary Amalfi Coast vacation is a perfect example. Some veteran Club members have called it the best value in travel! Our deep connections in Italy have made it possible for us to tour some of the world’s most evocative places—Sorrento, Amalfi, Capri, Ravello, Positano, Pompeii and more, all in an eight-day, breathtaking, whirlwind exploration of one of the most beautiful places on earth. And our price includes airfare, taxes, hotel, transfers, ground (and sea) transportation, escorts, guides, touring, 19 meals and more, not to mention our personal service and more than 50 years of experience. That makes the trip virtually all-inclusive; and that makes this trip and all of our others impossible to duplicate! THEATER UPDATE: We’re in for some Tony award-winning theatrical pyrotechnics in 2015! Motown and Kinky Boots, Newsies and Dirty Dancing—all coming to Boston this year; and North Shore Music Theatre’s season opener will be Dreamgirls, the show that gave the word “showstopper” a whole new meaning! It debuted right here in Boston back in 1981 and sent stunned audiences out of the theater every night, goggle-eyed at Jennifer Holliday’s rending, visceral performance of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” This is the kind of theater you remember for a lifetime—and we have your tickets!

Tim Montgomery, President

BEAUTIFUL—THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL

Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock ’n’ roll. Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation. Beautiful opened on Broadway in January 2014 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, where it’s broken every box office record, also earning its star, Jessie Mueller, a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

AMERICA’S NATIONAL PARKS & NATURAL WONDERS

“T

Monday, August 31—Tuesday, September 8, 2015

here is nothing so American as our national parks.”—Franklin D. Roosevelt. From the wild splendor of Yellowstone to Zion National Park—a paradise “too stunning for mere mortals”—we’ll explore an exceptional natural landscape on this new travel program as we visit five of America’s most popular National Parks. Considered the “Crown Jewel,” an unspoiled living museum, Yellowstone is also the first Park, established by Ulysses Grant in 1872. Witness a spectacular combination of mountains and meadows, lakes, hot springs and waterfalls, wildlife, and, of course, Old Faithful. Home to the most rugged mountains in America, Grand Teton National Park’s sky-scraping jagged peaks are often called “mountains of the imagination.” We’ll “cowboy up” in the resort town of Jackson, Wyoming, have a chance to float on the Snake River and enjoy chuckwagon food and western entertainment. Marvel at the sandstone cliffs and delicately sculpted pillars that create a magicallycolored “forest of stone” in Bryce Canyon National Park. Described as both enchanting and spectacular, the massive sandstone cliffs of Zion National Park will charm us in their colors of cream, pink, and red. We’ve saved the best for last as we journey to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World, for some of the most breathtaking views to be had in the U.S. On the last night of our vacation we’ll trade the majestic scenery of these amazing parks for the stunning neon glitter of a man-made wonder—Las Vegas!

During your free time this afternoon you might visit the impressive Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the Memphis Rock ‘n Soul Museum (a satellite of the Smithsonian), the Gibson Guitar Factory or the National Civil Rights Museum. You’ll have a chance to get acquainted with Memphis’ other king: legendary Bar-b-que at a slew of famous BBQ joints such as Charlie Vergos’ Rendezvous, Tops Bar-B-Q, Central BBQ and Neely’s Bar-B-Que. Nashville, where country music was born, has become the new darling of the South; it was one of the most popular international travel destinations of 2014 and ranked #15 on The New York Times list of 52 Places to Go in 2014. We’ll hit the highlights as we visit famous Music Row, Historic RCA Studio B, the Parthenon and the one-of-a-kind Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Nashville’s musical legacy is best preserved at the Grand Ole Opry and we have reserved seats for an evening performance before a day of touring that starts in Lynchburg at the Jack Daniel’s Distillery and ends with dinner and entertainment at the famed Wildhorse Saloon.

ROME and MALTA A One-of-a-Kind Vacation!

T

his exclusive Travel Club vacation combines two astonishing destinations brimming with thousands of years of history,
extraordinary art and architecture, sumptuous cuisine and stunning scenery. Rome, both ancient and modern, is an immense open-air museum with a treasure to be found on every corner. We’ll introduce you to this eternal city on a panoramic coach tour and include a half-day visit to St. Peter’s Square and Basilica and the Vatican Museum. Even if you’ve been to Rome before (or a dozen times!), you haven’t discovered all its secrets. You may have seen the Colosseum, but have you seen the secret keyhole with the stunning view of St. Peter’s? You’ve been to the Pantheon, but have you visited Santa Maria del Popolo, one of the churches in the film Angels and Demons? A short flight brings us to Valletta, the 16th-century fortified capital of Malta, with its Renaissance cathedrals and baroque palaces, a vibrant café culture, eclectic shops and historic cobbled streets packed with 320 monuments. An ancient Mediterranean trading hub, Malta’s culture is a mix of Italian, French, North African and Greek—all with a hint
of English—in this former British colony where English is the official second language. We’ve arranged a tour highlighting the Barrakka Gardens and the Grand Master’s Palace in Valletta and an amazing full-day excursion that includes the island of Gozo, Victoria and the Citadel and two Game of Thrones filming locations—the medieval city of Mdina (King’s Landing) and the
Azure Window, a stunning rock formation at Dwerja (Daenerys’ memorable wedding scene)!

NAPLES, SORRENTO and ROME Saturday, October 10–Tuesday, October 20, 2015

SORRENTO

$3,429

Naples—“Italy’s most red-blooded F rom city”—to sunny Sorrento—the gateway to

the Amalfi Coast—to one-of-a-kind Rome, this new Travel Club vacation is a classic! Described as “real-life” Italy, Naples is busy, lived-in and a little chaotic. Although the historic center drips with ancient architecture, cathedrals and churches, it’s also where Neapolitans live, work and shop as they have for centuries. We’ve included (in our opinion) two of the best things to do in Naples: indulge in pizza in the place it originated and visit the world-famous National Archaeological Museum, home to pieces from the excavations at Pompeii. En route to Sorrento we’ll visit the doomed city of Pompeii (destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D.) for a guided tour of the ruins followed by lunch and a wine-tasting. Sorrento is all charm with cobblestone streets lined with lemon trees, lively piazzas filled with flowers and sidewalk cafés, an unspoiled old quarter and a lively main shopping street all perched on a cliff overhanging the sea. We’ll enjoy a full-day excursion to the magical isle of Capri with its busy waterfront, grand villas, white-washed houses and the lush scent of bougainvillea in the air. A drive along the legendary Costiera Amalfitana brings us to Amalfi— medieval architecture and winding lanes nestled in lemon and olive groves spilling down the cliffside—and Positano—the coast’s most picturesque town with “houses tumbling down to the sea in a cascade of sun-bleached peach, pink and terracotta,” says Lonely Planet. Some might say we’ve saved the best for last as we journey to Rome for three nights and touring that includes a guided panoramic coach “see the sights” tour and a visit to St. Peter’s Square, the Sistine Chapel and admission to the Vatican Museum.

EV SEL ER LS CLASSIC SICILY Y Y OU EA T Palermo, Agrigento and Taormina R!

Saturday, October 24–Sunday, November 1, 2015 is dramatic—in every sense of the word. S icily Lying only 80 miles from the coast of North

Africa, Sicily has seen invaders—Greeks, Romans, Arabs, French and many more—all attracted to its beauty, fertility and magic. That doesn’t sound all that dramatic, you say? Try this: Sicily is both blessed by the spectacular, turquoise Mediterranean Sea and cursed by volcanoes and earthquakes. Not enough? Quintessentially Italian yet uniquely Sicilian, the island has seen plagues, family vendettas, poverty and prosperity. It has always attracted poets, painters and lovers of beauty. It has mountains and beaches and vineyards; its cities and towns are both ancient and modern. In short—it’s dramatic! Join us this October as we explore Sicily from the storied streets of Palermo to the most famous of all Italian resort towns—Taormina. In between, we’ll visit Marsala and sip wine; spend a day marveling at the Greek temples in Agrigento; wander the streets of Catania; and, finally, discover the charms of Taormina, to this day, a hot spot for the rich and famous. We’ll be treated to an excursion to Mount Etna and have plenty of time to explore on our own. Now that’s dramatic! TRAVELER REVIEWS

Head to the Campo dei Fiori outdoor market at Piazza Navona—buy your wine, bread, cheese and enjoy a picnic as you people watch. We’ve included “jump-the-line” tickets for the Vatican Museum. (Tip: mail your postcards from inside Vatican City for the unique stamps and postmark.) The weather in November is perfect for sightseeing and you’re more likely to encounter Romans than tourists! You’ll discover the treasures of this immense open-air museum go hand-in-hand with Rome’s more tangible pleasures—legendary cuisine, cutting-edge fashion and shopping!

¿SABÍA USTED? (DID YOU KNOW?) In Barcelona, people live to eat! A typical day starts with something light, perhaps a café con leche with toast or biscuits. Around 11am, it’s time for a ‘real’ breakfast—a sandwich or croissant. Lunch occurs between 2 and 3pm and often consists of a starter, main course and dessert. Supper time is traditionally between 9 and 10pm yet, at times, may be even later. A piece of local advice: make the ‘wait’ between lunch and dinner easier by snacking at a tapas bar at 5:30pm and then again at 7:30pm. You can exercise when you return home!

Have a look at the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse and famous Old Course at St. Andrews, the birthplace of golf. From Inverness—the “Capital of the Highlands”— we’ll make a heart-wrenching visit to Culloden Battlefield before hopping a ferry to the Orkney Islands—a once-upon-a-time Viking stronghold. We’ll see the ruins of a Neolithic village and the Ring of Brodgar, a stone circle thought to be older than Stonehenge. Back in the Highlands we’ll visit the striking ruins of Urquhart Castle (where you won’t resist scanning the surface of the loch for Nessie) before we travel through the Great Glen. On the legendary Isle of Skye (known as the Misty Isle) we’ll visit Armadale Castle & Gardens and see the dramatic Cuillin Hills. Our tour ends with a journey across mysterious Rannoch Moor and a tasting at a Highland malt whisky distillery.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA TREASURES Sonoma Wine Country & Napa Valley Wine Train

Sunday, October 11–Monday, October 19, 2015

f we can say so ourselves, this is an absolutely amazing trip! We’ll start in San Francisco—eccentric, eclectic and uninhibited—and be wowed by its diverse neighborhoods and world-famous icons (Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf and Nob Hill, to name a few). Travelling east we’ll head into the Sierra Nevada wilderness to Yosemite National Park, a jaw-dropping landscape of towering granite cliffs, Alpine meadows, hundred-year-old trees and waterfalls. A tour of Old Sacramento’s historical district brings us back to the California Gold Rush with more than 60 restored gold rush-era buildings, wooden sidewalks, cobbled streets and gas lamps. At the California State Railroad Museum (the best in the U.S.) we’ll learn about railroad history in California and the West through exhibits of beautifully restored railroad cars and locomotives. Adored by Mark Twain—a “noble sheet of blue water”—and named “Best Lake in America” by USA Today in 2012, we’ll be mesmerized by the crystal blue waters nestled among mountain peaks as we enjoy a paddlewheeler cruise of gorgeous Lake Tahoe. Spend two nights in Santa Rosa in the center of the Sonoma wine region and start with a visit to a famed local winery before a stop at the Olive Press—the most highly awarded olive oil producer in the nation—for a tasting! From here we travel through treasured vineyards to our premier destination—Napa Valley— and board the restored Pullman cars of the elegant Napa Valley Wine Train for a relaxing journey through incredible scenery and a one-of-a-kind farewell dinner.
