For artists and the art-curious, residencies and workshops provide welcome new horizons with the space and time to refocus and recharge creative energy. Chulitna Lodge Artist-in-Residence Program provides time, space, clarity, and facilities for all forms of creative professionals to make and meditate. Located 200 miles from the nearest road, with fly-in access only, this historical landmark is nestled among the trees along miles of lakeshore within Lake Clark National Park. Visual artists, writers, musicians and even scientists—from seasoned professionals to enthusiastic hobbyists—are all encouraged to apply for their various programs. Connecticut Lyme Academy Dates: May 15–19 and June 14–16 Registration opens January 15 The Center for Arts Programming at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts is proud to offer three summer residencies that give adult students a rare opportunity to work with nationally and internationally renowned artists. Watercolor: The Method of Color with David Dewey will be hosted offsite at the Norman Bird Sanctuary in Newport, RI, in May. This five-day intensive workshop includes plein air and studio time with the master artist David Dewey, whose teachings focus on color. Exclusive evening visits to private collections around Newport are included in the tuition. Limited housing is available on site at the Paradise Farmhouse.

RESIDENCIES RESIDENCIES Two pastel workshops co-sponsored by the Connecticut Pastel Society, The Figure in Pastels with Margaret Dyer and The Painterly Portrait with Alain Picard, will be held in June on Lyme Academy’s bucolic campus located in the Connecticut River Valley, known as the birthplace of American Impressionism. Maine 26 Split Rock Cove Summer Art Workshops Dates: Residency available year round, workshops are ongoing. Along the shore of mid-coast Maine, 26 Split Rock Cove is a welcome retreat offering studio space, living arrangements and workshops for artists and writers looking for a peaceful and nurturing environment. The workshops focus on writing and bookmaking and are available to beginning and practicing artists and writers. The Artist Retreat Space apartments are quiet, live/ work one-bedrooms within walking distance of the shore. They have a private stone patio with views of the ocean. An optional studio space is available for renters staying less than three months. Apartments and private studio spaces can be rented by week, month or year.

Tried and true, the Eliot School of Fine & Applied Arts has been providing education and inspiration in craftsmanship and creativity for more than a century. Founded in 1676 as a grammar school, its focus shifted to manual arts in the late 19th century, a tradition that has continued to this day. For adults, summer intensives are five-day classes that offer an immersive experience. Past topics have included woodworking, fashion, book and paper arts, mixed media and fine arts.
