One of the most prolific winemaking families in the world is the Lurton’s. After reviving several famous Chateaus in Bordeaux, brothers Francois and Jacques turned away from their Bordelais path, and started making wine across five different continents. Having established themselves as some of the most successful “Flying Winemakers” in the world, Jacques arrived in Chile in the early 1990’s. The brothers founded the JFL Chile partnership, and Hacienda Araucano was planted, just outside the small historic village of Lolol.
Carmenere is the flagship wine of Chile, in the same way Malbec is for Argentina. However it’s relatively unknown, because the best expressions of Carmenere are usually labeled as something else. Montes Purple Angel, Errazuriz Kai, and former Wine Spectator Wine of the Year: Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta. Originally used as a blending grape in Bordeaux, the wine thrives in the high rent district of the Colchagua Valley.

Patagonia is about as far from a conventional wine growing area as any in the world. While this is technically the middle of nowhere, innovative winemakers are creating bold and vibrant wines that are all about finesse. During early fall, wineries begin their process of picking grapes from their vines in order to create their primary label. Due to overproduction, most wineries produce more wine than they can use., which takes up warehouse space and ties up necessary cash needed for new vintage wines. Throughout the year, we send our buyers to California in search of overproduction. They visit some of the finest and most well known wineries throughout the state. The buyers taste the wine, negotiate prices, and decide which wines they’d like to purchase. All of the wines we purchase are still in their original barrels and must be grown in a sub-appelation district, which represent some of the best winegrowing areas in the region. The wines are then bottled and labeled under our own BLOCK label. Each wine is given a three-digit designation. Everything is negotioable except one point; the wineries insist that we do not reveal their name.
In 1868, H. W. Crabb turned the sleepy town of Oakville, California from a mere watering stop on a steam train between Napa and Calistoga, into a wine-growing AVA that would become legendary. Year after year, Oakville produces some of the biggest wines in Napa with trademark floral aromas of red fruits and chocolate, combined with lush, mouth-filling tannins and bright, fresh acidity. Notable wineries include Harlan, Screaming Eagle and Opus One.
