Lorenz Angus 19th Annual Bull Sale

19TH ANNUAL BULL SALE • APRIL 3, 2018 • A

welcome It is our pleasure to be a part of the seed-stock industry, we have an appreciation for good cattle, an interest in assembling genetics to the best of our ability, and a general enjoyment of the cow business. It certainly can come with its challenges, most of which are out of our control. But, it also can be very rewarding, we do strive to develop a stronger bull offering each year and a deeper set of females to retain in our cow herd. If we are successful in doing so, it will have a positive effect on our customers bottom line. This offering is made up of AI services to leading beef bulls that have complimented our program in various ways, a select few embryo transplant calves that have made an obvious contribution, and bulls sired by our own walking herdsires. Bulls that we know are good footed and are out of cows that will have a positive genetic impact. Over the past couple years we have acknowledged, on our own, without incident or issue that our bull pen has carried ample flesh in order to go out and breed cows. Therefore, we made the decision over the past few months to develop our bulls a little bit slower, still providing them with all of the ability to mature, grow, and develop into breeding bulls while maintaining an athletic, agile appearance. As we approach the sale, semen test, scrotal measurement and carcass ultrasound information will be available. The bulls can be viewed prior to the sale along with their mothers and any other information we can provide. We will do our best to assist in delivery after the sale, getting bulls directly into many of our customer’s yards. We are willing to assist anyone that cannot attend the sale with their questions and sale day requirements, it is a pretty straight forward ‘Sight Unseen Purchase Program’ if you are not satisfied you will not own the bull. As always, we will serve a complimentary steak dinner prior to the sale. Come early for coffee and donuts and a chance to visit with us about your herd bull needs. See you sale day!

The Bullseye sons were very well received in last year’s bull sale. We used Bullseye on all of the Prowler daughters resulting in many ¾ sisters to this bull. They were without question the most impressive females weaned in 2016 and 2017. The first Bullseye daughters have now calved and are beautiful uddered and currently nursing the biggest calves of their contemporary group. This bull has two of the most influential bulls we have used in recent years in his pedigree, Prowler and Bullseye.

When we made the decision to flush 1T a final time, we wanted to breed her to something different that checked all of the boxes. Jindra Acclaim did exactly that, he provided calving ease with unparalleled spread from birthweight to weaning weight and weaning weight to yearling weight. He possesses breed leading carcass traits for marbling and ribeye size and to top it all off he is attractive and complete. A herdbull candidate that has everything going for him. First of all, his dam! She is the most notable female in our program, she just became an ‘Elite Dam’ with only 4 progeny recorded, she has an ideal udder, incredible fleshing ability and she is also the mother of the reigning Canadian National Champion Angus bull, Lorenz Unified 17C. The combination of Bullseye, has resulted in this very complete individual who is at the very top of his contemporary both on paper and in flesh. He ranks in the top 5% of the breed for weaning weight, yearling weight, milk and total maternal. This is a bull that has been good from a very young age, he is near perfect through his front end with the presence and character of a herdbull.

A really high quality individual, he has been a standout since he was on grass and his dam is perfect in type and kind. This could be the best Tradeup son in the offering. We have just calved the first few tradeup daughters and they are going to be easy fleshing with good udders. LAF 73E

Possibly the hidden gem of the entire offering would be 76E. He’s just a march born and yet one of the feature bulls. 760lb weaning weight, 1350lb yearling weight, he has all the power and dimension that Creed offers along with the foot structure and fleshing ability that his mother offers. A maternal brother was our high selling bull two years ago, to Dave Meyers, Prince Edward Island.

If you want an easy going, docile bull out of a strong cow family, this bull would work perfect. His dam traces back to Vermilion Dateline 7078 who will always be known for the high quality daughters he left the beef industry.

A younger bull that will offer lots of power, if you don’t turn your bulls out for a few months, look to some of these younger bulls that are often very economical options for good bull power.

This good uddered Blackcap cow always has small calves that grow and excel at an exponential rate. Only an 81lb birthweight and has been impressive since he was weeks old.

There are a lot of good things about this mid-march born calf. His dam is a direct Right Time daughter that is the kind we would love to have more of, she is broody, deep ribbed and has as good of an udder as any 13 year old cow could have. This bull has an 82lb birthweight, a low birth EPD, high calving ease EPD and he comes recommended by me as probably our highest quality, heifer approved, sale bull His 760lb weaning weight shouldn’t do any harm either.
