20TH ANNUAL BULL SALE • APRIL 2, 2019 • A

welcome Progression is absolutely necessary in all businesses and the beef business is no exception, we try to be progressive with our sire selection, bull development, culling practices and cowherd. This year we will also welcome a few progressive minded, good cattlemen that will offer a very select group of breeding heifers off of the top of their respective programs. These heifers, along with the young cow/calf pairs are all British bred, Angus and Hereford influence females that will go on to be functional, productive brood cows. 2018 also witnessed some progression in our family, as Chad & Becky got married at the farm on June 30th and continue to be partners in the day to day operations of Lorenz Angus. The 2019 bull offering features four full brothers that come from a very successful flush on the ‘Caroline 31X’ cow, who is also the grandmother of our resident herd bull, Lorenz Unified 17C and our high selling bull in the 2018 sale. We had the first sample of Endurance sons in last year’s sale, but this will be the first large scale offering, the sons were born easy and will make up the majority of our calving ease candidates, they are also high performing, mature, masculine bulls with good feet. The Titan sire group are major standouts for rib shape, muscle and performance, they will sire calves with volume and performance. We welcome any inquiries or visits prior to the sale, or throughout the year for that matter. We take pride in watching the bulls develop from the day they are born and have a deep knowledge of the cow families that produce these bulls. So if you have any questions, we are comfortable in sharing any information that we can leading up to the sale. Our ‘sight unseen’ purchase plan is very straight forward, if you cannot attend the sale or view the bulls in advance, we will assist you to pick and purchase a bull in your absence. If you are not satisfied with our joint decision, you will not own the bull. Please join us for coffee and doughnuts in the morning, and then our usual complimentary steak dinner at noon, followed by the 20th edition of our yearling bull sale at 1:00. An absolute feature amongst the Endurance sons. Endurance has been a complete breeding piece for us in terms of type and structure, calving ability, and overall look, but what has impressed us the most on this first large group of sons is the added shape and performance as these bulls mature. This calf is mothered by a Warrior daughter that come in dam of a great ‘Annie’ female out of the Sandy Bar Dispersal. She certainly earned her keep on her first calf and was among the easiest fleshing first calvers last summer.

A high indexing bull coming off of a Bullseye daughter seems like it could become the norm. This was the first year that the Bullseye females were in production and they are a productive group. 82lbs at birth, over 700lbs coming off of a 2 year old in September, with lots of muscle and dimension. We knew that he would improve feet, udders and add milk in the first generation and we look forward to having some more daughters retained in our herd.

This is an embryo transfer son of the great 31X Matriarch, making him a maternal brother to the 1Z Caroline cow that has been such an integral part of our cow herd and also the dam of Lorenz Unified 17C. This calf is phenotypically as good as any bull that we have offered, he is massive in his design and wide based, big hipped, with a presence and look that he developed as a young calf. He has a weaning weight of 725, a yearling weight of 1341 and just a 78lb birthweight. This is probably the most complete bull of 4 full brothers.

The youngest, stoutest, longest sided and as time passes likely the most powerful of the flush mates. He has loads of perfect straight, soft hair. This calf is very dimensional with lots of hip and top, he is extended and good headed. This is a bull that we feel is a feature and has lots to offer in a very diverse way, when you combine his individual type and power and the history of his donor dam.

This is a very complete March born calf, off of a first calver that is super uddered and easy fleshing. This is a bull that could be overlooked when standing in the same pen as the older bulls but if you analyze him for his low birthweight, great dam and phenotype he is very complete. LAF 89F

She has done it again! This full brother to Lorenz Unified 17C, the 2017 National Champion Angus bull is mothered by our most productive, most prestigious cow. There is no other cow in the history of our cow herd that has infused such consistent phenotype and performance in her progeny. Her first born was a female that we unfortunately lost as a bred heifer, following that she has raised 4 bulls in a row that each have risen to the very top of their contemporary. 2 of the 3 that have sold in previous sales, were high sellers and one went on to a very successful show career. She is designated as an ‘Elite’ dam with the Canadian Angus Association and this particular son was 1st out of 50 bulls at weaning, with an index of 124 and boasted the heaviest yearling weight of the entire offering. A definite breeding piece.

This is a young son of Unified, our shared ownership of Unified with CD Land & Cattle allowed us to use him later in the breeding season as cleanup on some AI cows, which is why we only have a few younger sons on offer. The following year we used him heavy in our AI program and walked him the entire season, so the 2020 bull sale will feature a large selection of sons. Despite this calf’s age, he is a real chunk, with lots and lots of hair.
