Everyone who stuck through the hard times are definitely being rewarded for all their hard work and dedication to this industry. 2015 saw some unreal prices in all areas of the cattle industry, with that said it seems prices have adjusted somewhat to what many consider still a very profitable business to be in. The outlook remains very strong with the consumer demand for Canadian beef throughout the world, and especially Alberta beef is definitely a product sought after by many. Both programs have stayed very committed to the cattle industry, always searching for new genetics to advance our programs to the next level through purchasing top end walking bulls or buying semen packs from some of the most sought-after genetics in the cattle industry. We are constantly working on putting the best possible cow herd together to raise the best possible set of bulls for you, our customers. Both programs are family-based operations where everyone is involved in the farm and everyone has important roles. Mike and I are very lucky to have wives that seem to be the glue to the operations, hold everything together and help with everything that happens on the farm. WELCOME FROM BOUCHARD LIVESTOCK Welcome to the Northern Classic Annual Simmental and Charolais Bull Sale. The Simmental bulls at Jaydawn and Willow Creek are the strongest group ever offered in terms of quality and kind. In the Simmental selection the performance bulls are big middled, with lots of shape and muscle, ideally suited to sire the kind of beef genetics that are in demand both in purebred and commercial herds. The calving ease group are very consistent in type with the right shape, pedigree and numbers to work in the heifer pen. Jaydawn has added a group of September born calves with that extra age to work in slightly rougher terrain with the ability to breed in larger pastures and service more cows. Jaydawn has increased the Charolais numbers slightly and have a great set of white bulls that are definitely the kind. The Northern Classic for 2016 will offer a set of bulls that are in demand in the beef industry today. These will be bulls to supply both purebred and commercial herdbull needs. PAYMENT TERMS
Pay 1/2 on sale day and the balance due November 1 with post-dated cheque. Bulls become the risk of the purchaser as soon as they are sold and must carry insurance to qualify for Terms. All bulls must have their registration papers transferred to same owner.
HEALTH AND FERTILITY
All bulls will be scrotal measured and vet examined. All bulls over 12 months of age will be semen tested. All bulls were treated with Ivomec and such products and have received all their vaccinations. Contact seller for details on programs.

All bulls are guaranteed to be satisfactory breeders in accordance with CSA and CCA guidelines. Should a problem occur barring injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchase of another bull. At the buyer’s option and risk the bull can return home and be delivered anywhere in the Peace Region and to central locations free of charge. Anywhere outside of this will be shared costs of the buyer and seller. We will do our utmost to deliver them right to your yard. We will start delivery shortly after the date of sale on our schedule so please have a spot ready for your bull as we try to make full trailer loads when delivering.

EPD EXPLANATION
EPDs are “Expected Progeny Difference”. They are a useful tool in selection EPD incorporate the individual animal with its anestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds. They are individual based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. The accuracy of EPDs for calendar year bull calves is generally about 20% (one out of five times) so use it cautiously. One of several selection tools. JayDawn Farms would personally like to invite you to our 13th annual bull sale to be held at Evergreen Park in Grande Prairie on Friday March 11th at 1 pm in the Drysdale Building. Come join us for lunch and some hospitality prior to the sale at noon on Friday. We are a family-based operation with this being a second generation farm started by my parents, Donald and Patsy, who still live on the farm. Mother still cooks up a storm and dad gives advice when needed. The third generation is starting to make its way back to the farm with Jordan coming back to live and work on the farm full time this year, Kris and Darcie work full time at other jobs and help out when they can as they are still involved with their own cattle. It truly takes a full family and lots of help from good neighbors and friends to sometimes get the work load complete on the farm. So, thanks to all that help out - your help is greatly appreciated. We currently are calving out about 230 females with plans to breed 275 this year, which includes both a winter and a fall calving program. We are planning on expanding the fall calving program in the Simmental Red and Black division as this program, we are finding, lightens the work load at calving in the winter months. These bulls are developed at a slower pace and will go out and service more cows for you this spring. The winter program comprises of basically four programs - Fullbloods, Red and Black Simmentals and also a Charolais cow herd, which we are actively trying to grow as well. With running the four programs we have been using heavy AI to get our cows serviced. By using AI we have been able to get in on some of North America’s best genetics by purchasing exclusive semen packages on some to today’s most sought-after herd sires. We are always searching for the best possible genetics we can get ahold of to use on our cows. We remain very committed to our cattle operation. We know that everything we do will sometimes not work and we just need to cut our losses no matter what. Wallbanger is a bull that created quite a stir since he was born, selling half interest in 2010 for $45,000 to Robb Farms and the Semen Syndicate. He is a super soggy, stout-made bull that gets out and moves freely on a tremendous set of feet and legs. Measured 39 cm and froze semen at just 11 months of age. His offspring topped and set record prices in 2013 at many sales across Western Canada. He stamps them all the same - born easy, grow rapidly and all have that herdbull look to them. His second set of daughters are into production, not only do they have beautiful udders, but they are proving they can produce with the momma cows bringing in top weights in the fall and breeding back early for their second year of production and maintaining their body condition as well. Wallbanger calves are hitting the ground again this spring and continue to impress us each and every day. He will see heavy use again this spring at JayDawn farms through the use of AI.

Coal Train will grab your attention on sale day. This bull is very long and smooth-made yet super thick. Some line breeding in this pedigree and boy did it click. His dam is a small-made female (under 1100lbs) and boy does she produce, this fellow weaned off at 1045lbs and she came back in real good condition. Her first calf, sired by Odin, is one of my favorite bred heifers in the replacement pen. She calved again in January to El Tigre with another heifer calf. The Much More females are the type I wish I had more of, super udders hard-working females with good feet that just get the job done. LaBatte Simmentals and Oberle Bros. purchased El Tigre 52Z for $61,000 at the 2013 MRL Ranch bull sale. We were lucky enough to acquire a semen pack from them to use in our program. El Tigre has worked very well in our program adding tremendous thickness and rear quarter to our black program. He adds a ton of hair to his calves who are very vigorous at birth and grow like weeds when they hit the ground with a ton of performance. His first daughters are coming into production and are surpassing our expectations - very moderate made, lots of milk with beautiful udders and great mothering ability. El Tigre will continue to be used heavily in our program again this spring.

Hombre has been a favorite right from day one, a bull that carries that true herdbull presence about him. He was a pasture favorite all summer and continues to be an attention-grabber in the bull pen. He is very deep-sided and carries that thickness right through to his flank. El Passo is a super long-made son of El Tigre that has that same hip and extra stoutness that El Tigre passes onto his calves. This power herd bull was purchased at the 2014 Muirhead Cattle Co. bull sale for $85,000 by LaBatte Simmentals and Oberle Bros. Quote from sale catalogue: “Sale feature, one of our best ever! Stout, soft-made, super sound, good-footed, a lot of presence about him, has been very good since a young age! Out of a moderate-framed, easy-fleshing female with great feet and perfect uddered.” We were very lucky to be able to jump in and get a semen package from Barry to add this bull to our ai program. He calves super easy and the calves grow very rapidly. We are getting our second set of calves on the ground and he will see heavy use again this spring.

Muirhead Broker really patterned these bulls all very similar in type. Long-made, deep-sided and super smooth through the front end. He calved so well we used him on all our second calvers for 2016 and it worked fantastic. 44C’s dam is a very long-made Tanker female with excellent feet and a real good udder, this cow family stems back to the old 61R cow who is the dam of Pepsi. These Royal Red sons are all patterned very similar. They are super stout-made with a ton of hip to them and are very thick over the top. They all have a ton of performance and that herdbull look at an early age. 28C came up hetro polled when we tested him but when they are this good does that really matter? This bull is backed by one of our most impressive red Simmental cow families on our farm, the Red Doll cow family. Perfect udders, good feet, highly productive is what this cow family is known for. 944W has three daughters working in the herd as well as one bull that sold in last year’s sale to the good operation of Wiebe Enterprises. 944W dam 655S is also still in production and is currently being flushed. Dirty Rich is a home-raised bull that we kept a share in to clean up behind our AI program. Dirty Rich is as good of footed bull as you will find and gets out and moves like a cat. He is a super stout-made son of Stubby and is backed by one of the best cow families on our farm where the dam and granddam are both still in production. Here is a dark cherry red, polled bull that combines two of our top cow families on the farm. Out of Dirty Rich himself that is out of the respected 17X cow and a direct son of one of our best Fleckvieh cows, 904W, known to us on the farm as Pudge. Both cows have a tremendous production under their belts and are foundation females here at JayDawn. JAYDAWN FARMS The next eight bulls come from our long yearling program we started when we had a bull quit breeding on a group of young cows and I did not notice that he was not breeding. Against my wife’s will I turned the bull out with a group of cows November 1 to re-breed these cows. We had people asking us for two year old bulls but really did not want to go down that path, instead we tried this program with the fall calvers and after going through one year with them and two calving seasons now we absolutely love it (even Nikki). Calves winter on the cows and are weaned in May and then go to grass June 1, no extra pampering at all. These bulls are developed slower and are allowed to mature slowly. Then we brought them back in October 1 when we weaned the bull calves and put on feed they are fed the same ration as the yearlings. We plan on growing this program more over the next couple years. Analyze this group. These bulls will cover more cows for you with that extra age.

Here is a very long, smooth-made bull that will add a little frame and size to your calves without sacrificing calving ease. 90B patterns 92B very much the same, little larger-framed and smooth-made. He has a ton of hip to him, real nice feet and loads of hair. 66C is definitely a calving ease bull out of our heifer bull Odin. Super smooth-made with a real nice head and flat shoulder to him. We used Crosby for the first time in 2015 calf crop and we are really impressed with the calves we got. 24C is super long and smooth-made on a very moderate frame. These two Crosby sons are built both the same, super long, smooth-made on a moderate frame with excellent performance numbers. 37C is out of 12S that stems back to the Melita cow family that we purchased from the Bulhofners years ago. The females are all built the same, moderate, super stout and easykeeping female that are trouble free. Cowboss is built very similar to his full brothers that sold in last year’s sale that caused quite a stir, when the dust settled, Bartender 25B sold to Big Johnson Charolais for 21,000 and Bouncer 11B sold for 9,000 to Alan Landaker. 25C is homo polled, has very moderate birth weight of 96lbs and exceptional performance weaning off the cow over 1000lbs and a yearling weight of 1435lbs. This bull is very deep-sided, long-made and is very structurally correct. The consistency in this flush is second to none, the three heifers that we have in the replacement pen are peas in a pod and we are very excited to get them producing. This year’s full siblings again are very similar, six bulls and two heifers on the ground. All born very easy with a modest 92lb average and are growing like weeds. These Bradack sons are all very similar in type - long, smooth-made, with a ton of performance to them. They were all born easy and grew really well for us. 6C is out of a large volume, nice-fronted cow that has an excellent udder. SanDan program was a program we had been following for quite some time, they culled heavy for feet, udders and production over the years, building a very solid cow herd. So we knew when she was dispersing the winter cows we needed to own as many of them as we could. Charolais cross calves really perform in the feedlots and they top many of the markets when they come to town.

Another stout-made son of Bradack that is stamped the same as his brothers. This fellow’s dam caught us by surprise last January, hence the shorter ears on him. We made sure we did our home work on these SanDan cows prior to purchasing them. Working very closely with Ursula we found out which were the cows to try and own. Again, very happy with our purchases, 148T is one of my favorites, good-footed and a real nice udder and a real nice temperament to this cow. With that said, she did not disappoint us in the production either.

This tan bull is very smooth-made. He has a small head, long neck extension and smooth shoulder for calving ease. He is a twin. Unfortunately we casterated his twin brother, who looked just like him, due to extended navel ill. Their dam 137Y fed them on her own and weaned off just under 1700lbs, that would explain the milk and total maternal EPD’s ranking in the top 1% for the breed. You can use this bull on a variety of cows and including second calvers and it should work really well.

Here is a bull with probably the most performance in the Charolais section. Again the mating between Bradack and Carcass sure excelled in the growth and performance. He has a little more birth weight but he is also 6 inches longer than most of the bulls. Check out his EPD’s for weaning and yearling, and his milk and total maternal EPD’s are at the top percentile for the breed. We purchased a numerous amount of Carcass daughters at the SanDan dispersal based on the way they produced, they are moderate in structure and have excellent udders.

Here is an own son off of the great Copy Cat cow who was Jordan’s first 4H cow. She is getting some age on her but she still has a real good udder and her feet are real good too. Instigator has been the favorite black bull right from day one and impressing every one right from the start. He has been campaigned down the show road with great success. Instigator was the FarmFair International Reserve Junior Bull Calf Champion, then went on to be the PCBC Cattlemen’s Choice bull along with being a member of the Champion Pen of 3 Bulls. Instigator is a bull that has a huge, deep hip, soft-made and long-bodied. One of the most intriguing parts of this bull is his front end, he profiles with lots of neck extension, flowing back into a smooth shoulder added in with a nice skull shape. This comes from his sire CCF Vision, who was a feature bull that came out of the US a few years back. He created a lot of excitement this fall with females selling for upwards for $25,000. Instigator’s dam is a young cow that has a very bright future here and will likely be added to the donor pen. She was purchased last fall by Colby from the Maxwell herd as one of his top picks from the entire bred heifer pen. She is a big powerhouse cow who is stout-made, angular in her lines, has a ton of volume, perfect, square feet and a nice udder. Her star-studded pedigree only adds to the excitement of this young female. With the likes of Enticer, Powerdrive, Powerline, Black Joker and Lucky Dice, you can’t help but get excited about the maternal power she will have. It helps that her dam is none other then the great Tika cow of Maxwell’s who has produced many high sellers.

Rushmore is a bull that you have to see in person to appreciate how incredibly stout-made he is. We feel that he may be one of the thickest black bulls we have seen in recent times. Sired by the $60,000 Discovery bull only adds to his potential. Rushmore is moderate-framed, long-spined, excellent-footed, and has good testicular development. He has been impressing numerous astute cattlemen since birth over his shear thickness and powerful hip. His dam is a beautiful Powerline daughter that has been one of the top-producing red cows in the herd. She has a good udder and is long-bodied with plenty of thickness and good feet. We wish we had more that looked like her. She produced a heifer as a first calver that was sold to Stout Bros at Bluffton where she has turned into a beautiful cow and will have a feature bull in their bull sale. COLB 45X only had one other bull to date and he was one of the lead off black bulls a few years back going to Jeff Lange. Here is the big fancy blaze face bull from the Discovery sire group. He is a bull that will demand some serious attention on sale day. Altercation comes with a larger frame, stout top and great depth of rib. Discovery topped the 2014 MRL Bull sale at $60,000. We plan to incorporate a lot of Discovery into our herd. Altercation comes from a cow that has maybe the best track record here at Willow Creek. Conquest is one super cool bull. An extreme amount of rib shape, stout-made and carries his muscling right down into his stifle. You are going to hear us brag up on Discovery a lot but this guy is just another that is an eye catcher. Discovery put excellent feet and lots of hair on all his calves. Conquest comes from a real good cow we purchased from Labatte Simmentals. She’s proven that she can raise females. A couple are retained in the herd and one sold back to Barry Labatte. Again females off this guy will improve your program. Patriot is another bull that comes from the awesome group of Discovery sons. He is excellent-footed, big-topped and moderateframed. Patriot is a twin, which shows with his smaller stature and size, but don’t let that fool you, his pedigree is packed with growth. His dam is easily the most powerful black cow in our herd and one that will enter our donor program in the next year or two. Rudec deserves some serious attention. This may be the biggest bull in our entire offering. He is extremely long, soft-made, with a huge hip, has big testicles and a ton of hair. He’s the type that will cover lots of cows as he travels out really well on a nice big foot. Being sired by the “Hart The Factor” bull adds a real cool twist to his pedigree. His first calving Fleck-influenced, black baldy mother has more than earned her keep with this guy. She weaned Rudec at an impressive 905lbs on August 30. I don’t think you will find many first calvers that can do that and still hold her body condition and breed back on the first cycle. We feel that this young cow’s future is pretty bright here. We would love a whole herd that looked like her. She is perfect-uddered, has excellent feet, and built like cows should be. This bull was part of the Champion Pen of 3 Bulls at the PCBC, and had an actual yearling weight of 1440 lbs. Rudec is a bull that’s not going to be hard to find sale day, and I believe he deserves a serious look. He will not disappoint that’s for sure. Poll test pending

Black Bolt is the bull in the offering that would work in the heifer pen. His Stubby dam was purchased out of Ontario last fall and she sure has proved to be a worthy purchase. Black Bolt is longmade, and deep-ribbed yet he is smooth-shouldered with a small head to assist with calving ease.

Wow, now this guy is impressive and I guess his name says it all. McDavid is the bull that we believe is the best bull that we have ever raised, that’s a bold statement. He is absolutely massive in every aspect, huge-hipped, big-ribbed, incredible depth of flank, large-framed, long-bodied, squarefooted, with large testicles. We could go on and on but he’s just truly impressive. McDavid is the big performance bull that commercial cattlemen want. He’s the feature of this first group of stoutmade MRC Fusion 41A bulls. We purchased Fusion from the Chambers family of M&R Cattle Co, and did he ever surpass expectations in his first year. He sired a pen of really thick-made performance bulls. McDavid’s mother is no slouch either. I think it is safe to say she is the best cow here at Willow Creek. She was purchased from Anchor D’s Pasture Treasures Sale and is scheduled to be flushed this spring. She is that type of cow that literally raises the bar with each calf she has. She herself milks hard with a beautiful udder and excellent feet. She has sons at Ridgevalley Colony, Scarlett Livestock, and Dunluce Farms. Every one of these bulls were over 1530lbs on sale day. She has a MRL Red Whiskey calf at side and he looks like he is going to follow in line and be a feature next year. Don’t let McDavid’s color fool you, this bull is the real deal and we cannot wait to see what his calves look like in the fall come weaning.

This is the one bull in the pen that is full of raw power. Capital comes with a little larger birthweight, but he was born unassisted and easily. His dam is a cow that is absolutely massive, with a beautiful udder and perfect feet. This cow knows how to make them thick. They don’t come much darker red than this bull. Synergy is one of the more moderate-made Fusion sons in this year’s calf crop, but he makes up for it in thickness. I think it’s safe to say that he is one of the stouter-hipped bulls in the entire offering. The length of body that Fusion passes on really shows up in this guy. Hitman is the lone black Fusion son on offer this year. Very attractive made and deep-flanked, this guy will work excellent on a group of younger black cows to add some depth of body, hip shape and eye appeal. His first calving Surge mother did a great job on her first try. A little more calving ease in this pedigree but combines some power in there as well. Colby bought this bull’s dam last fall from Maxwell Simmentals and she sure has turned into a great young cow. Perfect feet, nice tidy udder and cherry red. Accelerator has produced some of the best females in the Maxwell herd. Eliminate is the powerhouse in the Element sire group whose mother is a beautiful Gidsco Apollo daughter off a Jahari cow. Born with a small birthweight, and having a good weaning weight while being raised by a first calver. Eliminate is dark cherry red, long bodied, stout hipped and smooth made for a Fleckvieh bull. He travels out really well and is a bull that should cover a bunch of cows. He combines calving ease and power in a cool package. Put him out with a group of young cows, add some chrome and collect a nice pay cheque come fall.

Justice will be the youngest calf on offer from us this year and he has held his own, keeping up to the rest. His dam was a powerful cow from Anchor D Ranch that was purchased a few years back in their Pasture Treasures female sale. Justice is sired by the calving ease bull Element that has been used with confidence on heifers and I think his sons will follow in line. They don’t come much better colored than this dark red rascal and with the built in calving ease I don’t think you can go wrong.

It doesn’t take long to find this bull when you go through the bull pen. Dark red with big wrap around goggles, deep-ribbed, with plenty of thickness. We purchased his dark red dam last fall out of the Bonchuk female sale and we couldn’t be happier with the way she turned out. SALE TERMS & CONDITIONS The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Bouchard Livestock Ltd reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should the purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, Bouchard Livestock Ltd reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage, either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale, together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The owners, Bouchard Livestock Ltd. and sale staff have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment and/or who has not made prior credit arrangements prior to the sale with the owners and/or Sale Management. BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - The proper Registration of Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made. SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale, but Sale Management or Seller assumes no risk. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instruction when making settlement. GUARANTEE - All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the applicable Canadian breed Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal. EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE - In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. In the cases of bulls, they are guaranteed to breed naturally according to applicable Canadian breed Association guarantee, but no guarantee is given that semen from any bull will freeze. HEALTH - It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Bouchard Livestock Ltd assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale. ACCIDENTS - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sale Management, auctioneer, or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS - The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and the terms and conditions of this sale do not cover obligations of the two parties connected thereto.
