welcome from bouchard livestock Welcome to the 4th Annual Southwest Showcase Simmental Bull Sale. The Southwest Showcase sale has rapidly developed a reputation as a source of quality commercial and purebred herdsires. All of the respective programs represented utilize a strong AI program as well as very functional walking herdbulls. The bulls consigned exemplify meat, muscle and performance. These calves are developed in ranching country and calving ease is never far from the thoughts of these proven programs. A number of these calves are slightly younger than some sales but it is always very interesting that we seldom lose a calf on fertility. The programs represented have stood the test of time so you can source your bull needs with confidence. Give the consignors a call to discuss the bulls on offer. There will be a cross section of individuals to fill your herdbull needs. I am very familiar with the bulls in this sale and available at the sale barn Saturday, Sunday and Monday if I can be of assistance. Hopefully, you can join us on Monday at Heartland in Swift Current. Should you be unable to attend, it would be our honor to represent your interests in our usual confidential and professional manner.

EPD Explanation

EPDs are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPDs incorporate the individual animal with its averaged ancestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds, they are individually based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. Use them for guidance in the direction you want your herd to go. CSA Averages: Expected Progeny Differences CE BW WW YW MCE MWW MILK SC 5.8

We guarantee you will have a bull to service your cows.

Health and Fertility

All bulls will have a scrotal measurement and a vet examination done prior to the sale. All bulls over 12 months of age will also be semen tested; any bulls under 12 months of age will return to the seller’s farm to be tested after the sale. 626Z is a smooth made, low bwt. 83 lbs., homozygous black son of the calving ease specialist In Dew Time. He is clean made with lots of middle, big testicles and is very correct. In Dew Time is known for his saleable bulls and functional, highly maternal females. 626Z’s dam Beauty 7N is moderate, stylish and complete. She is without a doubt our most consistent producer. A full brother to Carbon Copy will help anchor our program and have sold 3 brothers (2 full) to Bircham Ranch of Piapot, SK. Thank You to Wayne, Lee and Jordan for your purchase of Beauty 7N genetics. 626Z has calving ease, smoothness, good muscle shape and correctness backed by a highly consistent and predictable cow family. A sale feature for sure! This soggy Kosmo’s Pride son is out of a fancy, Iron Man heifer going back to our leading lady Beauty 7N. This guy boasts an 82 lbs. birth weight, good growth, above average muscle and volume, huge testicles, and a good hair coat. As with all the other Kosmo’s Pride sons you can expect calving ease, moderate birth weights, easy fleshing and longevity all on a disciplined mature frame score. Our Kosmo’s daughters in production weaned some of our biggest calves and did it while maintaining their body condition. 645Z is another real good Kosmo’s Pride son that is a 7/8 brother to 624Z. 645Z’s dam is a feminine, beautifully made young cow with good feet and legs and a perfect udder. She hails from the same cow family as our herd sire TSZ Apollo 508Y who was used heavily in our program last year. As typical with our other Kosmo’s sons you can expect calving ease, solid growth, good hair, longevity and great temperaments. SOUTHWEST SHOWCASE SIMMENTAL BULL SALE

Don Lundberg, Ryan Lundberg & Family

First and foremost we would like to thank all the bidders and buyers from our previous sales, if it wasn’t for you we wouldn’t be here. Many of you have been here and active at every sale and for that we are very grateful. We raise our cattle here in the cypress hills much as our family has for the last 105 years. There is no creep feeding, grazing alfalfa, and no magic feed rations. We calve our cows in April and May and wean in October. The bulls are hand fed grain and hay where we strive to have them gain 100 lbs per month. Our goal is to raise our cattle using the same management style as our bull customers so they will work well for you. Because of the age of the bulls at sale time, they will not be semen tested but they will be palpated and measured. We would like to take them back home until they are 13 months of age to semen test. Once they are tested, we will deliver them to you within the three prairie provinces at our cost. This has worked very well in the past; in the last 3 years, we have not had a bull fail his semen test so we are confident in this program. These bulls are fertile – we have had bulls used naturally breeding cows at 12 months of age. If you have any questions about the bulls, feel free to call Don or Ryan anytime.

We sold a full brother to this bull through the sale last year to Mike Bochek. 87Z is a very attractive calf with a nice front end and moderate bone. 87Z was very sick for a month after weaning and it really affected his performance. The good news is that it didn’t affect his genetics at all. The dam, 89S, is a cow you would really admire if you saw her; she is a real producer! Out of her last 4 calves, 2 heifers sold through the Agribition Simmental sale and tow bulls through this bull sale. SOUTHWEST SHOWCASE SIMMENTAL BULL SALE

boundary ranch Welcome to the 4th Annual Southwest Showcase Bull Sale. We are honored to be a part of this sale, and to be selling bulls with this group of reputable breeders. We strive for a balance of calving ease and performance when breeding our cows and think we’ve really hit the nail on the head with this group of bulls. We have more black bulls on offer this year and many of them are highly related, providing you with options if you are looking for more than one bull and would like to have some uniformity in your calf crop. Although we have less red bulls, the quality still runs deep and we believe there are bulls in our pen that have the potential to meet everyone’s needs. Many of the bulls have been Polled and Color tested, though not all the results were in by cataloging time, so please feel free to call for more results. To view scrotals, pictures of the bulls, dams, sires, relatives, and more, please visit our website at www.boundaryranch.ca Give us a call or stop by anytime and we’ll be happy to show you around the bull pen and our cow herd. Thank you to Bouchard Livestock for the excellent job they do with the sales management. A big thank you to all those who have supported our program in the past. We look forward to seeing you all sale day!

Here are two sons of the Nikki cow we purchased as a bred at the Agribition Sale in 2011 from Sunny Valley, where she was the second high selling bred for $15,000. Nikki was the Supreme Champion Female at the Prince Albert Summer Fair as a bred and she’s turned into a hell of a cow; broody, deep-bodied, with nice small teats and lots of milk. 55Z & 56Z are similar in type, and both share the same depth of rib and good hair, however, 55Z has a bit more performance while 56Z is a little more moderate and smoother made. With “Red Ace” and “Odin” in their pedigree, these bulls should have calves that come easy but have above average performance. Homozygous Polled Heterozygous Black Twins

Heifer bull supreme! This guy looks good on paper and even better in person. 103Z combines a low 75 lbs BW with great performance, awesome phenotype, and good hair. We expect his mother to be one of the great ones; she’s fancy, with a big hip, nice tight udder, tons of hair, and a sweetheart head. Her maternal sister had the high selling black bull at this sale last year as a 2 year old, going to Deeg Simmentals. We really like the Odin calves – they come early and have low birth weights, but also have good performance. 103Z himself had a gestation of only 276 days! His EPDs rank in the top 2%, 10%, 20%, & 40% respectively for CE, BW, YW, & WW - what an amazing spread. 103Z was the Champion Bull Calf at the Swift Current Pen Show against some pretty stiff competition. The Tumbler cow family was one of the very best at Kimlake and they are really working here as well. They are also probably the strongest cow family in udder quality that we possess. 188Z is sired by our own red / nondiluter 2Tempting bull, a phenomenal “Temptation” son of our Abricot 356N cow. 2Tempting’s calves have great depth of body and good performance. 188Z really presses down the scales but is moderate in size, and has been one of Darby’s favorites from the start. Dark red with tons of muscle and mass, yet smooth shouldered and very clean up front. This is the first year Red Iron sons will be available in Canada and this is one that we are very excited about. If cow families are a high priority for you when looking for a herdbull then have a look here. His mother is tremendous producer that has put sons in this sale for the third year in a row. His grandmother, the 16P cow is one that we have really based our red program around. This maternal strength on the bottom side of the pedigree is no surprise with names like Red Label, Quorum and Chief Red Bear all showing up. A maternal brother sold in last year’s sale to Owen Schmitz who was our high seller. This bull is very stout made with lots of middle, a good full hip and a great haircoat. Here is an end of March ¼ Fleckveih blaze faced bull we are proud to offer. A long, low set, clean headed and tight sheathed calf with a different pedigree for many breeders. His EPD’s are in the top 10% of the breed for weaning, 15% for yearling, 35% maternal CE, 10% for MWT and top 25% for milk. Don’t overlook him because of his age. I wouldn’t mind a herd of cows that look and produce just like 223Z’s dam. Last year her bull calf sold to Donnie Zahn.

A mid-March calf that is similar to 166Z. Russian progeny have good early growth rates but moderate mature size. They are medium boned with a high muscle to bone ratio. You may want to run several Russian sons together for a uniform calf crop and to keep the frame size of your replacement heifers in check. 2R is one of those trouble free cows that quietly produces a top calf every year. Her only daughter has been retained. Sons have gone to Rick Loeppky and Rod Feil. One son is a current Herd Sire at EDN. Homozygous polled & Homozygous black

Sambo daughters can produce with the best of them and the nice uddered 17X has proven that with her first try. The Grand Dam was purchased at the M & J Herd Reduction sale.
