Welcome from Bouchard Livestock Welcome to the Annual Southwest Showcase Bull Sale. This yearly event is recognized as having the potential to fill the herd bull needs of both top-end purebred producers as well as the place many established commercial operations select bulls every year. EDN, X-T, Boundary and Crocus are all producers of Simmental genetics that are recognizable within the Simmental industry both purebred and commercially. The late March, early April sale date has become attractive to bull shoppers enabling them to evaluate many bulls before they eventually settle their bull battery for the upcoming season. With the involvement of all these purebred operations it certainly provides the opportunity to fill the needs of a variety of herd bull requirements. I urge you to call the producers to discuss your specific requirements. They all are eager to assist you in getting the right bull for your program. All the Bouchard Livestock crew are familiar with the bulls on offer and available to discuss them with you.Given the slightly later sale date, with calving and some early breeding happening, there have been several herd bulls purchased on order sight unseen from this sale. That same reliable order buying service will available for 2015. Assisting producers fill their herdbull needs is a task we recognize as the utmost of importance to the success of any producer. Please give us a call if you are unable to attend. We would be honoured to work with you. -Brian Bouchard

EPD Explanation

EPDs are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPDs incorporate the individual animal with its averaged ancestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds, they are individually based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. Use them for guidance in the direction you want your herd to go. CANADIAN simmental ASSOC SPRING 2015 breed averages CE BW WW YW MCE MWW MILK

Darby & Sarah Delorme Box 36 - Robsart, SK - S0N 2G0 Ph: 306-299-2006 • www.boundaryranch.ca Sarah’s Cell: 306-299-7779 • Darby’s Cell: 306-662-7993 Welcome to the 6th Annual Southwest Showcase Bull Sale. We are honored to be a part of this sale, and to be selling bulls with this group of reputable breeders. This is probably the strongest and most exciting offering of black Simmental Bulls we’ve brought to town so far. Although we have less red bulls this year, the quality runs deep. We have a few more March bulls in this offering, but they were impressive enough to stand with the older bulls, so make sure to check them out. We never buy a bull without seeing his dam first, and no matter how much we like a bull, we won’t buy him if we don’t love his dam. The quality of our cow herd is very important to us. We would be happy to show you around the ranch, but if you can’t come in person, be sure to check out our website www.boundaryranch.ca All the most up-to-date information is available on the website, including weights and scrotals, and every bull’s dam and sire are pictured, as well as many sibblings. Thank you to Bouchard Livestock for the excellent job they do with the sales management. A big thank you to all those who have supported our program in the past; we look forward to seeing you all sale day!

Homozygous Polled by Parentage There is so much to love about this bull and from day one he has been the favorite. He’s as deep, wide, soggy, and powerful as they come. His dam is our ideal female and truly a timeless beauty. She’s a powerhouse, with massive volume, but still very clean-made, with a flawless udder. She was Champion female with calf at side in 2013 and 2014 at the Swift Current Pen Show. Her daughter, Isabella 16A, was the high selling heifer calf at Agribition, going to Ter-Ron Farms. We lost a full brother to 91B (pictured below), but he was exceptional and the reason we bred Isabella back to King Arthur. 91B had the #1 AYW & #2 AWW of the red bulls, and EPD’s in the top 1% for WW & YW. Excalibur has big-time performance, a great disposition, and is backed by an incredible cow. Isabella 3U is owned by our daughters. This is their first bull calf to sell.

Homozygous Polled / Heterozygous Black We are often asked which bull to use to improve feet and udders. The one sire we’ve used over the years that has consistently done both is Springcreek Walk The Line. “Walk The Line” hasn’t had many sons go through the sale, as they are March born, so we usually sell them off the farm. His sons have been impressive, but his daughters are second to none. Not only are they feminine, good-uddered, with excellent foot structure, but they also have lots of milk. We had two “Walk The Line” daughters with bull calves last year, and its no accident that they produced a couple lead-off bulls Lot 9 (3B) and Lot 4 (67B). Two direct sons of “Walk The Line” also sell below, 222B & 214B. If you’re looking to keep replacements, then a “Walk The Line” son will work for you.

His grand dam is a beautiful “Temptation” female that, at 9 years old, won the SCPS with 131Z’s sister 5B at side. 5B was offered on choice at Agribition in 2014. 511R is also a full sib to our Walking Herdsire 2Tempting. His “Walk The Line” dam is the first black female from the Reggie family. She’s moderate, stylish but still has a big hip, great feet and a beautiful udder. 3B’s grand dam had 171Z as a two year old and a full brother to 171Z that sold to Bill Peter last year. She also has one of our favorite Red Mountain heifers in the replacement pen. His great grand dam is Reggie 110R – the cornerstone of our red herd. She’s had high selling bulls go to Diamond K and to Robb Farms. Her true impact has been in our cow herd, where every daughter has been retained and they are now making their own mark. 3B has a good disposition, a gestation of only 279 days and low BW. Homozygous Polled by Parentage A very nicely put together bull with exceptional length of body, thickness, and overall correctness. 76B had the second highest AYW and we find all the “Justice” calves have big time performance. His dam is a long, thick, “Enticer” daughter that has a nice “Sweet Meat” daughter in our herd and sons working at Big Valley Simmentals & All Around Angus. Homozygous Polled Homozygous Black Our only “Stubby” son this year and he is definitely not aptly named. 29B is as deep-bodied as they come, very correct, with an awesome disposition and great hair. His dam is a powerful, long & deep-bodied, fancy “Fixation” female that is truly impressive in her own right. She had a very good “Odin” son that cleaned up our heifer pen last year. Many bulls from the Sarah cow family have topped this sale over the years. He is very highly related maternally to Lot 13 (210B), who is also a feature bull in this year’s sale. 29B has lots of performance and the EPD’s to back them up – top 10% & 20% for WW & YW. This bruiser was a member our show string at the MHPS. He won’t be hard to find sale day.

Homozygous Polled Heterozygous Black An embryo calf out of the great Sheila Ann cow of Mom and Dad’s. Sheila Ann 1135N is a feminine, super deepbodied blazed cow Sarah showed as a calf. She has sons working at David & Arlene Kramps, Clark Rycroft and Ru-bens Simmentals. We purchased this embryo from Jay Dawn Farms, hoping for a heifer calf, but were given this outstanding bull calf instead. The El Tigre calves were the most impressive group of bulls we saw all spring. We especially appreciated the amount of heel the El Tigre calves had, as wells as their length of body and muscle expression. 161B himself is a powerhouse, with a big strong hip, very good overall structure and he’s smooth with a nice small head. With his phenotype and pedigree, El Tigre 161B could do a lot of good in a lot of different places.

We would like to say a big thank you to all our bidders and buyers over the years. We feel very fortunate to be working with such a progressive group of breeders, sales management and customers. Much has been said about the tremendous state of the cattle industry. No matter where the market is, the same principle holds true. Top quality cattle bring a premium over their counterparts. The easiest way to improve your calf crop is to invest in the best quality bulls available, and this decision will pay for itself over and over down the road. We are excited to offer you a set of bulls that we feel display the characteristics that we strive to produce. Deep sided, wide topped, easy keeping bulls that are structurally sound with great hair and quiet dispositions. They are developed with the future in mind. The weaning weights you see are with no creep feeding, so they are a good indication of their genetic potential. If you require any further information about the bulls, be sure to give us a call. The bulls are available for viewing any time. We look forward to seeing everyone at this year’s sale.

Dark red, loose-hided, free-moving with tons of muscle and hair. He is that bull that you notice first and keep coming back to. His mother is one of our most impressive cows, both in type and her ability to produce quality offspring. She has a tremendous amount of depth, spring of rib and overall mass, along with being very structurally sound. The combination of this cow with Diablo has produced a bull that is an outcross to many herds and one that we are very proud to offer. We feel he is the type of bull that will really pass his strong traits on to his calves and have a real impact on someone’s herd.

He has the bone, hair, natural thickness and eye appeal needed to sire a pen of market topping steer calves and top cut replacement heifers. Very good-footed and dog quiet. Polled Full Fleckvieh Banjo is a polled Full Fleckveih that has a lot to offer. Cherry red, goggle eyed, black hooves, big testicles, heavy hair coat and docile with strong numbers for growth and maternal. He has been tested for the diluter gene and is a non-diluter, which means he won’t throw grey calves when used on black cows. His EPD’s are in the top 30% for weaning; 25% for yearling; 3% for MCE; 2% for MWWT; top 1% for milk. He does have a very small scab scur. 38U is a moderate, big-ribbed, niceuddered dam that has always conceived on her first service. She traces back to the highly regarded Great Guns Mitzi cow. First and foremost we would like to thank all the bidders and buyers from our previous sales, if it wasn’t for you we wouldn’t be here. Many of you have been here and active at every sale and for that we are very grateful. We raise our cattle here in the Cypress Hills, much as our family has for the last 105 years. There is no creep feeding, grazing alfalfa, and no magic feed rations. We calve our cows in April and May and wean in October. The bulls are hand-fed grain and hay where we strive to have them gain 100lbs per month. Our goal is to raise our cattle using the same management style as our bull customers so they will work well for you. Because of the age of the bulls at sale time, they will not be semen tested but they will be palpated and measured. We would like to take them back home until they are 13 months of age to semen test. Once they are tested, we will deliver them to you within the three prairie provinces at our cost. This has worked very well in the past. These bulls are fertile – we have had bulls used naturally breeding cows at 12 months of age. Congratulations to all the cow/calf producers who persevered and were able to survive the past 10 years of the BSE fiasco, we are pleased for you and proud of you! It was really evident in the fall of 2014 how much more the real top-end calves and bred cattle were worth. There has never been a better time than now to step up and replace those old or second cut bulls you have at home. New top end genetics will only improve profitability in the future. Our two junior herdsmen, Reece and Gavin Lacey are hard at work helping Grandpa and Uncle Ryan every chance they get. They are the sixth generation of Lundberg descendants to feed cattle on our ranch. What they lack in technique, they definitely make up for in enthusiasm! If you have any questions about the bulls, feel free to call Don or Ryan anytime.

Homozygous Polled - 69B was displayed at the Medicine Hat Pen Show this past fall where he met with a warm reception. He was one of our most impressive bull calves all last summer. His dam is a big, dark cherry red powerful cow who always produces a good one. She has a TURBO son working for Porter Simmentals at Kinistino and they just love him. 69B was pictured December 1st for advertising so he was not even 8 months old in the picture so as you can imagine he has changed considerably! 69B injured his shoulder after being re-introduced back into the bull pen after the Medicine Hat Pen Show. He was pretty sore for a month and this really affected his gain. We are confident he will be fine by sale time. PG1137011

Power and performance in this calf – he is in the top 5% of the breed for both WW and YW EPD’s. The dam I can’t say enough about – she is a real soggy, power cow. The grand dam, 55N, was shown at Agribition as a calf where she was third in class.

120 Day Gain on Feed: 3.75 lb/day I’m sure you are going to like this solid red calf out of two black parents. I’ve talked lots about TRACKER already but I haven’t mentioned his dam, the TSN BLACK EDITION cow and what a cash machine she has been for MRL. So do your homework and study the pedigrees because it is no accident that the great ones do come from the best pedigreed, proven genetics. The 287U cow is my favorite HEAVYWEIGHT cow. She is just so sound and easy fleshing. Nice milk numbers on this calf.

Perfect feet and udder at seven years of age. She was shown at Agribition as a bred heifer winning third in class. She weighed over 1600lbs but matured quickly and is not any bigger now. The HEAVYWEIGHT’S are all great cows and I just can’t say enough good things about them. Ryan displayed 36B at the Medicine Hat Pen Show where he had many admirers. He’s a big wide topped and heavy muscled calf with a real smooth shoulder set and a small head – I’m sure he will be a bull you could use on heifers and still have lots of performance bred into the calves. He has a real nice E.P.D profile combining calving ease, performance and milk! His dam is a female we bought from Maxwell’s as an open heifer and she has turned into an excellent young cow. Her dam was a cow we sold to Maxwell’s – one of those great LOTTERY cows – X-T LOTTERY 42T.
