Developed 4000 years ago in China, the rules are simple–but it can take a lifetime to master the game. Go boards are provided and take-home sets made of cardboard are available for free. Ages 5+.

EXHIBITIONS
“TEEN ART EXHIBITION: PHOTOS, PAINTINGS, POTTERY AND MORE!” May 2–May 15 in the Teen Art Gallery outside of the Teen Space at Main Opening reception May 6 at 4 p.m. Stop by and check out awesome art created by teen artists from Boulder High School. There will be a mix of mediums on display including photos, paintings, pottery and digital art.
“MEXICANIXIMA” May 3–July 9 on the Arapahoe Ramp at Main MEXICANIXIMA is an exhibition of handmade piñatas created by Maribel Arredondo (a.k.a. Mamibel) of Curious Paper Art by Mamibel. Each piñata represents an element of Mexican culture – join us on this trip to Mexico.
“WORD INTO ART” May 6–June 22 in the Canyon Gallery at Main WORD INTO ART highlights the versatile and vibrant ways that text and art intertwine. The exhibition will feature more than 90 contemporary artists and writers. Using language as a powerful visual tool to reflect on culture, politics, social justice or simply the beauty of the alphabet on canvas, with sculpture, artist books, posters, broadsides and concrete poetry. Co-curated by Jim Johnson and Jennifer Heath.
“BIRD’S EYE VIEW” July 1–July 31 in the Canyon Gallery at Main Through a partnership with Open Space and Mountain Parks, Boulder youth have taken an art-science approach to observing local birds and exploring humans’ interspecies relationships with birds in our backyards.
“LIBRARY INSPIRED: THE BPL STAFF ART SHOW” July 15–Sept. 6 on the Arapahoe Ramp at Main Using the library collections as inspiration, this exhibition shares artworks created by library staff.
OPEN CALL FOR COMMUNITY ART EXHIBITION Open Space and Mountain Parks and Boulder Public Library are excited to announce an open call for a community exhibition which will take place Aug. 5–Sept. 18, 2022. This show will celebrate art inspired by our shared natural areas! These past few years have been challenging for all. To honor the comfort and healing that nature provides we are seeking artwork inspired by OSMP Land. Submissions will be accepted April 18–June 12. BICYCLE RODEO WITH BOULDER POLICE OFFICERS Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m.–noon at Meadows Saturday, July 9 at 10 a.m.–noon at Main Learn about bicycle safety from City of Boulder Police Officers. Complete a bicycle skills course, helmet fittings, and bike safety inspections. Kids, bring your bike, safety gear and adult. For children 12 and under. LET’S DANCE SALSA! Saturday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m.–noon. at Holiday Park (4650 14th St., Boulder, 80304) Create the rhythm of Latin music before learning the basic steps of salsa. Professional dancer Marcela will engage you and your little ones with information about her native country of Chile and end with a demonstration of salsa dancing in other Latin American countries. All while talking about our favorite source material, BEER! Designs and packaging are constantly evolving. No experience needed. *CYANOTYPE AND WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP Saturday, July 16 at 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. at Meadows Learn how to make photo prints using just the sun and practice easy watercolor techniques. Explore how to use and be inspired by natural objects. No previous painting or photo experience needed. For adults ages 60+ and is hosted in collaboration with the City of Boulder’s Older Adult Services.
