To Play: • Anyone age 6+ can play. • Program runs Dec. 17 through Feb. 29. • Read three stories: Books, magazine articles and audio books all count. • Play online or pick up a bingo card. Each week one winner will be drawn for each age category (children and teen/adult). Winners receive a tote bag filled with a gift card to Boulder Book Store and winter goodies. For each additional story read (up to three entries) after challenge completion, participants will be entered into a grand prize drawing for an iPad (teen/adult) or Nintendo Switch (children).

AUTHOR TALKS *AUTHOR VISIT WITH JAN BRETT Wednesday, Dec. 6, 5 p.m. at Main in the Canyon Theater Boulder Book Store presents renowned children’s book author and illustrator Jan Brett. Brett will do a drawing demonstration and speak about her new collection “Jan Brett’s Winter Collection Box Set,” which includes wintry classics, “The Snowy Nap,” “The Hat,” “Cozy” and “The Three Snow Bears.” All books for sale at the event will be 20% off, with a book signing following the talk. *Individual Adult Tickets are $10 (plus a small processing fee). *Child Tickets are FREE (advance registration is required).

BLDG 61 is a free community workshop dedicated to hands-on learning through making. The makerspace is equipped with a broad selection of tools and materials to fulfill the needs of both creative and industrial projects. Laser Cutters, Sewing Machines, CNC Machines, 3D Printers, Looms, Screen Printing Equipment, Vinyl Cutters, Electronics, Woodworking Tools, and more are available at BLDG 61. BLDG 61 is located within the north building of the Main Library. Full schedule of access and events is available at bldg61.org

*BLDG 61 MONDAY WORKSHOPS Mondays, Nov. 20, Nov. 27 and Dec. 11, 4–6 p.m. at Main in the BLDG 61 Makerspace A wide range of topics will be covered in this BLDG 61 Monday workshop series, including Laser Cutting, 3D Printing, Dye Sublimation, Sewing, Screen Printing, CNCing and more! There will be topics for every interest and level of understanding. Check the online calendar for information and to sign up. *SEWING REVOLUTION First Sunday of the month, 1:30–4:30 p.m. at Main in the BLDG 61 Makerspace A community style drop-in sewing workshop. Materials and equipment will be provided for a beginner level project of the month. Patrons are also welcome to bring articles of clothing in need of mending, tailoring or upcycling to the program. The featured project typically takes 45 minutes to complete. Patrons can expect to share equipment and supplies. *U-FIX-IT CLINIC HANDS-ON REPAIR Sunday, Nov. 12, 1–4 p.m. at Main in the BLDG 61 Makerspace Bring any appliance, device, toy, clothing or broken thing you want to learn how to fix with the help of U-Fix-It Clinic coaches. The rules are simple enough to learn in a few minutes–but it can take a lifetime to master the game. Go boards are provided and take-home sets made of cardboard are available for free. POKÉMON CLUB First and Third Sundays of the month, 2–3 p.m. at Reynolds Learn to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game, come to trade cards or do a themed craft. All levels of Pokémon Trainer are welcome. *INTERNATIONAL MULTILINGUAL FAMILY GATHERING Second Sunday of the month, 3:30–4:30 p.m. at Main Boulder Public Library welcomes all families who are raising their children in a multilingual household. EXHIBITIONS “TAKE FLIGHT! – A CELEBRATION OF COLORADO WILDLIFE” Oct. 3–Nov. 30 at Meadows All the paintings in “Take Flight” are inspired by walks along local trails and in Colorado’s open spaces. Artist Rose Winterton wanted to recreate the everyday wonders that are within reach of all of us, whether that be the beauty of a tiny butterfly or the majestic sight of a Great Horned Owl. “QUIET COUNTRY” Oct. 10–Dec. 1 at Main on the Arapahoe Ramp “Quiet Country” explores our relationship to nature as a complicated response to the overstimulated cities and suburbs that we navigate. Folded paper quilts both magnify and obscure certain elements of recognizable icons, blurring distinctions between the organic and the manmade. Artist Josh Hughes activates the landscape as an escapist’s vision of America, interrogating our intentions of wanderlust and its inherent mystery. “WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A TAIL LIKE THIS?” CELEBRATING THE LIFE AND ART OF STEVE JENKINS” Oct. 13–Dec. 3 at Main in the Canyon Gallery Opening reception Oct. 20, 5–7 p.m. A vibrant retrospective of the wondrous work of Boulder Caldecott Honor recipient Steve Jenkins (1952–2021), featuring illustrations from his many children’s books (some in collaboration with this wife, Robin Page), that describe the marvels and magic of animals and the natural world. TEEN ART EXHIBITION Nov. 8–Dec. 6 at Main in the Teen Art Gallery outside the Teen Space Opening Reception, Nov. 9, 4:15–5:45 p.m. Stop by and admire the creativity of local teen artists who attend Boulder High School! This show will feature book-inspired art using a mix of media including clay and paper. IKEBANA JAPANESE FLOWER EXHIBITION: CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS Dec. 9–10 at Main in the Canyon Gallery Flower arrangement demonstration at 2 p.m. in the Canyon Theater. The Ikenobo Ikebana Society of America Colorado Chapter presents their annual flower arranging exhibition. Over 50 beautiful ikebana flower creations will highlight the holiday season.

WINTER TEEN ACTIVITIES *TEEN NIGHT AT NOBO: COOKING PUMPKIN SPOON CAKE WITH STICKY FINGERS! Wednesday, Nov. 15, 4:30–5:30 p.m. at NoBo Art Center, 4929 Broadway Ste E, Boulder, CO 80304 Teens will have a blast cooking up and devouring exciting, tasty and healthy recipes. Allergies are always accommodated, and our plant-forward recipes are nut-free. At this class, we will be cooking buttery pumpkin Thanksgiving spoon cake, spiced whipped cream and pumpkin spice hot cocoa. This is event is for teens and tweens only, ages 11+.

Whether you already participate in a Boulder Teen Advisory Board at any of the library locations, or you’re curious about what that might mean, this party is for you. Register each person making the project. Learn about the medicinal benefits of honey and propolis for bees and people. Explore some simple ways you can stock your pantry to boost your health this winter! Take home medicinal elderberry honey syrup and honey ointment for soothing your skin.

NATIONAL HISTORY DAY: OPEN HOUSE & RESEARCH RENDEZVOUS Calling students and teachers! Get help with your projects at our annual research sessions and open house events for National History Day: Using Interviews as Primary Sources and Carnegie Library Open House Tuesday, Dec. 5, 4:30–6:30 p.m. Learn about creating and using interviews as primary sources during a special presentation at 5 p.m. at Carnegie Library for Local History. Archivists will also be available to discuss ideas for a local slant on this year’s theme and to answer questions about research with primary sources. All teen history enthusiasts and teachers are welcome to attend. Research Rendezvous Sessions: Get one-on-one research help from librarians, historians and community experts. This opportunity is for all students participating in National History Day. Find primary and secondary sources, get help formulating your thesis and have mentors review your project.
