Ross Gebert talks about why you should sell in autumn/WINTER To find out why these seasons seems to be a less popular time to market your home and if there are any benefits to selling in the cooler months, we talk with Ross Gebert to discover how you can take full advantage of fewer homes on the market.

Q We’ve all heard that this year has started well for sellers, do you think this will continue through winter? Ross REIWA states the average number of days to sell is now down to 62 in Perth but in the local area it’s even less at around 41 days. I am regularly achieving 7 days or less and I don’t see this changing - feedback is showing purchasers are concerned that buying is going to get more difficult as they know winter traditionally sees less homes available. Q Why do you think sellers are ‘put off’ by marketing from May to August? Ross Interestingly, sellers seem to think that buyers hibernate when the temperature drops a few degrees but this is not true at all! Buyers are not frightened of a little ‘inclement weather’ and in fact people who are serious about purchasing will venture out if it is 40° or 15° and raining! Q In your opinion, what do you believe are the advantages of selling in the cooler months? Ross Like spring, late autumn is the ideal compromise between the weather extremes we are used to in Perth. The gardens are greener, the air is cleaner and buyers seem much more relaxed.

Ross’ top three tips to selling in autumn Houses (and gardens) always look better in the autumn light so use this to your advantage. Take photos at dusk and highlight with feature lighting. On a beautiful, sunny day, open all the windows and curtains to let the natural light and breeze through – your home will feel naturally fresh and clean. On those cooler days, make your home cosy and inviting by adding throws to the couches and piles of books and magazines.

Pot baking is an ancient way to bake bread, Egyptian bakeries of 1000bc used a similar method. The best type of pot to use is a non-stick heavy cast iron or ceramic, although anything will suffice as long as it is oven proof. Pre heat the oven to 230C Stir the flour, yeast, salt and water in a bowl, cover in cling film and let it sit for 8-9 hours.

Brooke Sinclair introduces us to the easy way to make bread as a wonderful addition to any autumnal dinner table.

Place a large pot with the lid on in the oven for 30 min to warm it up.

Lay down a large cloth onto the chopping board and dust with flour. Uncover the dough and carefully scrape it out of the bowl onto the flour. Lightly mould it into a mound.

Take the pot out of the oven and place the dough in the pot. With some scissors, make some incisions in the top of the dough, put the lid back on and return the pot to the oven. After 30 minutes, take the lid off the pot and let the bread bake for another 15 minutes. For a darker crust on the bread, you can leave it in the oven for another 5 minutes
