Massey says community outreach efforts are con tinuing through meetings, newsletters and social media, to draw donations and tell people about the facility. “We are still hearing misconceptions and confusion over details, such as the size of munici pal hall and the scope of the project And we are still receiving questions regarding programming, and in one case specifically what is being planned for the youth demographic. So of course we ’ re responding directly to these queries,” she says

“We are continuing to engage our donors, our pled gers, and the general public for the project, including a number of one on one meetings,” said Jacqueline Massey, fundraising coordinator for the Community Centre Select Steering Committee (CCSSC), during the organization’s Sept 8 meeting

Last Friday’s 4 pm municipal nomination deadline came and went, with more than half of the current coun cil deciding not to seek re election for any position

Shelley Sainsbury, certified fundraising executive on the project, says it’s been “great to hear people’s thoughts, hopes, objections, and such on the Community Centre, because it does help us where there are misconceptions, give them the correct information so that they can make the choices with all of the information ”

“We do indeed want to hear people’s thoughts on this, and we want to make sure that we ’ re sharing with transparency what’s going on at the Community Centre,” says Sainsbury

“There’s been a few things municipally related in the past five years that just make me scratch my head Why are we going this way?” says Turner “The park (Cape Roger Curtis proposal) was one that sort of kicked it off. It’s one of those things where I think I can give back and straighten out some of this stuff, and maybe navigate it more smoothly than others ”

While at times you may not have agreed with one another, each of you has acted respectfully on what you felt were the best options for our community and this extraordinary little island.

Dear Editor, Mayor Ander, and Bowen Island Councillors Fast, Morse, Nicholson, Hocking, Kaile and Wynen,

Thank you for your commitment and ser vice over the past four years!

You have asked the tough questions, made difficult, not always popular deci sions, and overseen several large projects, through some very challenging circumstances

Your dedication to making things better for all of us is respected and appreciated. Best wishes to you all.

Whether it was working on our Human Resources, five major capital projects, COVID, or that darn broken toilet at the ferry dock, it sure has been an interesting experi ence being a councillor on Bowen It was 4 years of con tinual learning, making decisions that impact all of us as individuals and as a community

This year, we invite Canadians to find inspiration from Terry’s perseverance and grit and continue pursuing his dream On Sunday, September 18, we invite everyone to demonstrate their own no quit attitude and walk, run, bike, hike, skate or wheel for cancer research at their local Terry Fox Run site.
