THIS IS MY TEAM Hi, I’m Karen Murphy and this photo demonstrates how much I love playing bowls and being in a winning team. I am very fortunate, I have been playing since I was 11 years old and I first represented Australia when I was 22. I have played over 600 Tests for my country. My bowls career has taken me all around the world and I have met the most wonderful people involved in bowls. I recently competed in my 5th Commonwealth Games and representing Australia is a dream come true. It is a real emotional and exciting experience. I have also had the pleasure of visiting a lot of clubs throughout Australia, we have a fantastic sport and I am passionate about doing all I can to benefit bowls and help our sport grow. During these years I have closely been associated with BCIB and I am proud to be one of their ambassadors. BCIB provide amazing support for our sport and have sponsored and promoted bowls for over 30 years.
There is no need to wait until your insurance is due, send your contact information in plenty of time to conduct a thorough review.
BCIB currently manage the insurance for over 700 clubs in Australia, if you are one of those clubs I thank you for being one of our valued clients.
I can personally assure you that allowing BCIB to be involved in your clubs insurance is the right decision. They have been working with our sport for over 30 years.
If you are not a current client, why not allow BCIB to give you advice on your insurance needs? Please provide your contact details and they will arrange for one of the experienced team to talk with you.
You can email your contact information to info@bcib.com.au or phone on 1300 657 058.

WELCOME
2019 AUSTRALIAN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
O
n behalf of the Board and staff of Bowls Australia, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 2019 Australian Indoor Championships being staged here at the coveted Tweed Heads Bowls Club. After the success of the recent $250,000 Australian Open we are back, this time on the Queensland/ New South Wales border for what is undoubtedly the nation’s premier indoor tournament.
Once again Australia’s finest players are in attendance, including defending champions Rebecca Van Asch and Aaron Teys, fellow Australian Jackaroos Barrie Lester, Ben Twist, Kristina Krstic, Karen Murphy, Dawn Hayman, Lynsey Clarke and Carla Krizanic, and of course, our recent Australian Open singles winners Aaron Sherriff and Natasha Scott. We sincerely thank Tweed Heads Bowls Club, our valued partner in delivery this event, for staging the Australian Indoor Championships for the 32nd consecutive year, whilst also acknowledge the tireless work of the State and Territory Associations for staging their respective qualifying tournaments, and look forward to another successful event at this wonderful facility.
To the many officials, International Technical Officials and Tweed Heads members and staff who will be working tirelessly over the duration of the Championships, I would like to thank you for your invaluable contribution and ensure you that your efforts do not go unnoticed. Finally, I would like to thank our wonderful sponsors whose continuing support and contributions ultimately allows Bowls Australia to stage such a renowned event here at Tweed Heads. Good luck to all competitors and I hope you enjoy the 2019 Australian Indoor Championships as much as the spectators will enjoy the action and entertainment that you will provide over the course of the event. Daryl Clout Bowls Australia President
2019 AUSTRALIAN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS:
IMPRESSIVE FIELD
TO COLLIDE ON THE CARPET T
his year’s Australian Indoor Championships boasts one of the strongest fields in recent memory, with international exponents, national titleholders and defending champions littered throughout. The women’s draw is a veritable who’s who of Australian bowls, with a litany of former winners gunning for another dose of glory, including Karen Murphy (2007-2009, 2011-2013), JamieLee Worsnop (2014), Carla Krizanic (2015), Natasha Scott (2016), not to mention defending champion Rebecca Van Asch, who has her sight set on a three-peat. A contingent of other stars loom large among the list, looking to secure a maiden trophy, including Lynsey Clarke, Samantha Noronha, Dawn Hayman, Kristina Krstic and Jessica Srisamruaybai. In the men’s contest, Aaron Teys is the only contender attempting to strike gold twice, but still faces an assembly of some of the nation’s biggest names.
A trio of Jackaroos juggernauts, in Aron Sherriff, Barrie Lester and Ben Twist, are primed to mount an attack on the trophy cabinet, while Dane McKinnon and experienced combatants Matthew Pietersen and Scott DeJongh-Fitzpatrick also lurk ominously in the 32 player draw. Elsewhere and the beauty of the Australian Indoor Championships is the unearthing of players all around Australia, who have earned their way into the event via an arduous qualification process in their respective state or territory. The likes of well-known state combatants in Dale McWhinneyShillington, Jay Bye-Norris, 2018 Women’s Semi-Finalist Genevieve Delves and Colleen Orr are also among the field, showcasing the depth of talent in this year’s event. Eight players from both fields have been seeded and placed in the draw accordingly, determined by defending champions (Seed 1), defending Australian Open Singles champions (Seed 2) and the remaining seeds
given to the top six ranked qualifiers under Bowls Australia (BA) Player Ranking System at the conclusion of the previous ranking year. By virtue of winning the 2018 Australian Indoor Championship titles, Aaron Teys and Rebecca Van Asch have earned automatic qualification for this year’s event and Seed 1 in their respective draws, while the same applies to 2019 Australian Open Singles champions Aron Sherriff and Natasha Scott (Seed 2). This year’s staging of the Australian Indoor Championships will be the 32nd in its history and again at the magnificent Tweed Heads Bowls Club indoor complex. Not only will our eventual champions leave the event with a prestigious national title, but they will also be $4,000 richer in the purse, receive 90 Bowls Australia Ranking Points and secure automatic qualification for both the World Cup at Warilla in March, 2020 (representing Australia) and next year’s Australian Indoor Championships.
