BARCELONA is the capital city of the autonomous community of Catalonia in Spain and Spain’s second most populated city. It is the largest metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea. Besieged several times during its history, Barcelona has a rich cultural heritage and is today an important cultural center and a major tourist destination. Particularly renowned are the architectural works of Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner, which have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. 14

Culture
THE CREATIVITY, CAPACITY TO ABSORB DIFFERENT INFLUENCES, CO-EXISTENCE AND TOLERANT VALUES HAVE SHAPED A CULTURE THAT IS BOTH NATIONAL AND COSMOPOLITAN.
The Spanish Bullfighting Bull fighting is very closely associated with Spain and it’s can be traced back to 711 A.D. This is when the first bullfight took place in celebration for the crowning of King Alfonso VIII. It is very popular in Spain with several thousand Spaniards flocking to their local bull-ring each week. The Flamenco Dance Flamenco is a folk art which is around 200 years old. It is from Southern Spain and is individualistic, yet structured. Song, dance and guitar are blended into passionate rhythms which are often improvised and spontaneous. Flamenco will have any imaginable theme, from up to date stories, to politics, to love, to history, to humor, etc. Today the solo guitar flamenco has developed into a separate art and is fashionably blended with jazz, blues and pop music. The Beaches Of Barcelona Barcelona probably has the closest beach. Here you’ll enjoy the windsurfing, kayaks and hobie cats. It is a haven for rollerbladers, cyclists and joggers. This is a more tranquil area. The Barcelona Architecture Barcelona is a city with mind-blowing architecture. When you first encounter Antoni Gaudí’s La Sagrada Familia or his rooftop sculptures at La Pedrera, you’ll be floored by the originality and hallucinogenic quality of his works. There’s much in Barcelona unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

According to a survey, it was indicated that more than thirty years of age accounted for 70% of business travelers, where more men than women. These are reflected by the nature of the business activities. On the one hand, business guests are older, independence is very strong, and the people valve their freedom. They like stable, elegantly furnished rooms, willing to accept personalized service and customized services, but also want to be respected by others. However, with the condition that they will carry out the business, personal feelings have volatility, resulting in the hotel being difficult to grasp the standard of service. On the other hand, business women are more demanding of the hotel and put more emphasis on safety and comfort of the environment. The overall level of business guests have a good educational background, high quality and excellent cultural self-cultivation. These are decisions that they allow them discriminate good grade of the hotel and the hotel services. The hotel will also have higher requirements, namely whether hardware aspects of the hotel or the hotel’s software.

The 12 inch difference between the seat height and bar top is common in this bar area. This bar area will be used for breakfast bars. The bar top overhang is 12 inches and will be 10 inches so your knees do not hit the bar front. When making this extra-wide bar top overhang, corbels or brackets should be considered under the bar top to lend support and to keep the top level and straight.

I designed this space trying to enhance the materials through their identity in a very clean way. The space is very linear and simple, but at the same time, the matching of materials generates power and elegance. Each volume will be realized in different materials, keeping them natural. Marble, cork, wood and steel, all material with a strong effect and different from each other. What I have done is try to combine their contrast to find an overall harmony. The result is a very linear and clean space in which the matching of materials is powerfully creating a very elegant atmosphere where the hotel can be valorized.

It will be the image of the impressive steel and glass architecture in the powder mountain. At approximately 45,000 ft., the geometrically complex grid shell is a huge free-form surface. With a faceted design philosophy, this architecture view forgoes curves for hard lines and edges that are at once modern and masculine, sharp and futuristic.

SUSTAINABLE ANALYSIS
The architectural design is structured with steel and glass elements to form a strong, modern and spacious green building. Greenhouse sections with innovative heat and air circulation for organic farming and plant growing support biodiversity further extending its self sufficiency. Summit Commercial Complex is developed a sustainable design concept. This green building is a self-sustained structure that features modern interiors and attractive exterior design for green living.

The green building, power from solar panels, collects rainwater and uses gray water for plants, creating a microcosm that not only reduces the carbon footprint but contributes to the ecological system and pleasant atmosphere inside. Solar panels and a solar power tube system is designed to heat the water. Semi transparent glass solar panels turn solar power into electricity. Greenhouses gain passive solar energy and increase natural ventilation. A ground heat pump uses the earth’s constant temperature to heat and cool modern interiors.
75
INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO The linear concentrating solar power (CSP) collectors that capture the sun’s energy with large mirrors reflect and focus the sunlight onto a linear receiver tube. The receiver contains a fluid that is heated by the sunlight and then used to create a superheated steam that spins a turbine that drives a generator to produce electricity. The wind turbine, instead of using electricity to make wind, like a fan, wind turbines use wind to make electricity. The wind turns the blades, which spin a shaft, which connects to a generator and makes electricity. The graywater reclamation system conserves potable water by recycling spent water for safe usable purposes. Wastewater generated by the building is usually either black water, contaminated to levels that prohibit use, or graywater which can be treated and stored for non-potable reuse.

FIRECLAY TILE SHOWROOM DESIGN IAD 606 01: MS: COMMERCIAL DESIGN Instructor : Serena Zanello
COMMERCIAL DESIGN
INTRODUCTION FIRECLAY TILE
FIRECLAY TILE
is a North American tile company founded in 1986 by Paul Burns and Martin Zepeda. Employing over 100 individuals, Fireclay is known for designing and hand-making tile in the Northern California, while actively incorporating green practices. Originally based out of San Jose, California, and manufacturing out of Aromas, California since 1992, headquarters and an additional showroom have been located in San Francisco, CA since January 2014. Free sampling has allowed those considering Fireclay tile to preview colors before committing since January 2014. When full e-commerce capabilities were unveiled in April 2014, clients could also retrieve online design assistance, and order project materials without ever having to leave home, revolutionizing the way architects and homeowners experienced design and remodeling.
118
Chief Ceramicist Paul Burns started making tile at just ten years of age, and after working at Stonelight Tile, he, his college roommate Martin Zepeda, and three others created Fireclay Tile in San Jose in 1986. The following year Fireclay developed its own product line, called Colonia, which consisted of 4x4 and 6x6 tiles and corresponding trim pieces. In 1988 Fireclay began to manufacture their own glazes, and made the choice to do so without lead, making Fireclay a pioneering company as far as environmentalism. Using locally ubiquitous materials, Fireclay partnered with their Aromas factory neighbor, Granite Rock in 1997. Difficult to repurpose excess granite dust then became a key ingredient in the recycled clay body, which was launched in 1998. Twelve years later in 2010, the introduction of Project Porcelain marked another key initiative in Fireclay’s continued efforts to turn trash into treasure. Their latest innovation, the Cathode Ray Tube tile, was introduced in 2013, and released to the market in 2014. The project of converting CRT to tile expanded an already impressive recycling repertoire by inventing a way to utilize copious amounts of electronic refuse.

DESIGN CONCEPT
FACTORY PATTERN Factory pattern is a process that discribes a product producing procedure and a design method. While in this process, clients give a simple requirement to the factory and factory design and manufacture the products for their clients. For example, a client wants a brand new tile and requires a series of color and texture, then the factory recieved this order and begins their design and produce procedure. If the client feels satisfied with the products, this process ends. Furthermore, this product that the factory manufactured could become one of their product series which can provide them with more clients. When the series of products becomes plentiful, the clients can easily get what they want from this factory. So this process is a procedure of how modern factory works today.

STATEMENT
The goal is to redesign the commercial space of the company Fireclay Tile. The main focus lies on the public showroom and two other semipublic or private spaces. DESIGN DETAIL
The steel allows for a 360-degree viewing of the tile inside the frame. The framed display of large format and mosaic tiles, leaning against the walls like oversized artworks, are a sheer stroke of genius. Careful attention to craft and highly considered detailing add a touch of warmth to the otherwise clean and architectural space, creating a sense of modernity.
A major materials library, where product samples can be vertically pulled out of a huge wall at the back of the stand, visualizes the products’ and materials’ variety. Accessories and complementary items for product and tile board display units for stands, stores and showrooms.

SHOWROOM RENDERING
The interior renovation of this house is intended to create open plan modern interior which also accommodate FIRECLAY TILE products. There is no clear distinct between daily showroom and art experience. With clever space arrangement, products can be displayed aesthetically and do not interrupted daily showing. A bright color touches at some parts of interior, creating fascinating look.

The showroom is painted green gray and adorned with yellow beam steel. The flooring is lighter gray with the green seat, and brings to mind the natural patterns of leaves or grasses. One wall features a bank of a massive show wall which bathe the entire space in natural light. The clean lines and minimalism of the furniture and the demure charm of the color scheme and lighting.

PRODUCT COLLECTIONS The concept is based on a conceptual approach inspired by the modern and pop art and on an extensive iconographic and visionary background, generating results that are unique of their kind. Attention to details, and the emotion they can generate in people is fundamental in my selection.

I would like to thank all of you. Without you, this protfolio couldn’t be completed. Thank you to the instructors of Academy of Art University. You taught me so much about this professional field. Thank you to the ESL tutors. As an international student, without your patience and enthusiasm, I would not have been able to express myself clearly. Thank you to my friends. You always stand by me when I am in need of help, either in the academic ormental aspect. Most importantly to my family. Without you, the dream of learning design in the United States would never have come ture. You are the people who care about me the most in the world. Thank you for flying to the U.S. and taking care of me when I had a surgery. There will never be enough words to express my appreciation. Thank you. I love you.
