SandJam Fest – This two-day country music festival in Panama City Beach will blow you away with the incredible talent on stage!
Mardi Gras Dog Parade – This may be the most fun Mardi Gras celebration of all! The ever popular Krewe of Arfeous parade takes place in Sandestin and stars four-legged friends on decorated wagons and golf carts.
MARCH Seaside Half Marathon and 5K – Sponsored by Vera Bradley, this popular race sells out in advance. It features a weekend-long array of activities such as a silent auction benefiting the Seaside Neighborhood School and the delectable Taste of the Race evening event. St. George Island Chili Cook-Off – Some like it hot at this spicy festival! Start your day with an invigorating 5k before indulging in chili and salsa culinary showdowns throughout the day. 30A St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival – Be Irish for a day with this annual parade from Blue Mountain Beach to a festive celebration at Gulf Place. 30A Cornhole Tournament – A South Walton classic, two-person teams compete on the greens of Rosemary Beach, benefiting the Special Olympics of Walton County.

Digital Graffiti – The world’s first projection art festival lights up the white walls of Alys Beach for this one-of-a-kind event. Digital and video artists from around the world are invited to participate in this incredible event.

Any day spent along Scenic Highway 30A is a day well spent, but if you only had one day, how could you make the most of it? One of the best ways to explore 30A is the Timpoochee Trail, the 18.6-mile pedestrian path that parallels the coast. Safe and with relatively little elevation change, it’s ideal for bike riding for the whole family. The availability of electric bikes has made it easier to cover more ground, making it possible to fully experience all the places that make 30A unique while having fun along the way.
Head to the YOLO Board + Bike shop in Gulf Place to rent bikes and gear. Next door, Sunrise Coffee Co. is a great spot to grab a cup of joe before you embark on your adventure. Ride west to the brand-new Dune Allen Regional Beach Access to take in a gorgeous Gulf view for your first stop. Equipped with restrooms and ample parking, this beach access has everything you need for a morning at the beach. After a stroll through the white sands, get back on the bike and start traveling east. There’ll be much beauty to take in along the way including a lovely lake vista from the covered Draper Lake Bridge. By now you’ve passed through Dune Allen, Santa Rosa Beach and Blue Mountain Beach, and you’re starting to work up
an appetite. A quick detour up County Road 283 in Grayton Beach to Black Bear Bread Co. is the place to fuel up for more adventures. Whether you’re craving pastries made from scratch or avocado toast, this local café has something delicious to satisfy your hunger! After breakfast, take a minute to peruse the colorful boutiques in The Shops of Grayton offering everything from local art to unique children’s items to handmade jewelry. The last stop of the morning takes you to Western Lake in Grayton Beach where you’ll meet concierge company Adventure 30A to trade your bikes for paddleboards for a little while. Whether you want to take a leisurely paddle around the coastal dune lake or venture out in the Gulf for a guided paddle and snorkel trip to the Grayton Beach State Park Sea Turtle Reef, Adventure 30A will outfit you with everything you need.
Your paddle is over and it’s time to get back on the road! Keep biking east across the Western Lake Bridge to see one of the area’s most iconic views – the tree line of Western Lake and stunning white dunescape of the Grayton Beach State Park. Make a quick stop at the WaterColor Town Center for a little more shopping. Find a variety of quality outdoor gear at Old Florida Outfitters or high fashion at women’s boutique Indigo WaterColor. Your stomach is probably rumbling by now and what could be better than traditional Neapolitan-style pizza with a Gulf view at Bud & Alley’s Pizza Bar? Find other must-try items like fried Brussel sprouts and even fresh oysters on the half shell. As you make your way through Seaside, be sure to note the unique architecture of the beach pavilions. There are nine different pavilions, each with a distinctive look and designs including the sailboats of the West Ruskin Pavilion, a rotunda at Pensacola Beach Pavilion and the towering Coleman Beach Pavilion. Seagrove Beach is the next beach town along the path. Pause at Clay 30A to peruse a thoughtfully curated selection of plants, pottery and outdoor art. Keep biking until you reach Deer Lake State Park, a peaceful stop for a break and a breathtaking stroll to the Gulf! It’s back on the road, and now you’re travelling through WaterSound Beach, Seacrest and the new Kaiya Beach Resort.

Admire the varying styles of architecture found in the homes of these communities and cross one more of 30A’s rare coastal dune lakes, Camp Creek Lake. One of Florida’s favorite pastimes, scalloping is a fantastic way to experience the raw beauty of the bays of Northwest Florida’s Forgotten Coast while also gathering the star ingredient for a fresh Gulf Coast feast. With no commercial harvest of bay scallops permitted in Florida, it’s also the only way to bring this coastal delicacy to your dinner table. So how are scallops collected? Imagine the ultimate scavenger hunt underwater in some of the most stunning coastal destinations in the entire state. Bay scallops are harvested by snorkeling through grassy beds and collecting by hand or with a dip net. The grass beds can be accessed by boat, paddling a kayak or paddleboard and wading in shallow waters. Scallops are found in the bays of both Gulf and Franklin counties, and seasons are regulated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. The 2020 scallop season in Franklin County begins July 1st and runs through September 24th while the Gulf County season begins August 16th and ends September 30th. “Scalloping with your friends and family is classic Florida fun in the sun,” said former Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Chairman Bo Rivard. “The season brings people and an economic boost to these coastal areas, all the while encouraging conservation and connecting residents and visitors to the wonders of Florida’s outdoors.”

Scalloping is fun for all ages and snorkeling the grass beds allows you to get up close and personal with all the coastal creatures that inhabit them. Don’t be surprised to find starfish, sea urchins, a variety of fish and more on your underwater adventure!
SCALLOPING FACTS + TIPS Scallops are harvested by snorkeling the shallow grass beds of the bays where they thrive and can be collected by hand or with a dip net. The St. Joseph Bay and Gulf County region includes all state waters from the Mexico Beach Canal in Bay County to the westernmost point of St. Vincent Island in Franklin County. The Franklin County region (including Carrabelle, Lanark and St. Marks) includes all state waters from the westernmost point of St. Vincent Island in Franklin County to Rock Island near the mouth of the Fenholloway River in Taylor County. Bag and vessel limits in open bay scallop harvest zones are 2 gallons whole bay scallops in shell or 1 pint of bay scallop meat per person, with a maximum of 10 gallons of whole bay scallops in shell or 1/2 gallon of bay scallop meat per vessel. A Florida fishing license is required. Scallops are usually found in seagrass beds and are easily distinguished from other bottom-dwelling animals by their electric blue eyes. They can swim by opening and closing their shells making them sometimes more difficult to catch!
