A gemstone or gem is a piece of mineral, which in cut and polished form, is used to make jewelr y or other adornments. Gemstones have been used for various purposes and been a source of fascination for centuries. Their individual properties and meanings contribute to the rarity, durability, and beauty of the stone; making it both valuable and desirable. However, before a gemstone can become a precious piece of jewelr y, it needs to go through processes of refinements and cuttings. Compared to design, the process is ver y similar to jewelr y making. Research, sketches, and series of refinements are needed for the final piece of a project to become precious and beautiful. In another word, design, if treated correctly can become as precious as any beautiful jewelr y. Let ’s also imagine, if there was one of the best stones ready to be cut but there’s no art or design putting into it, how would it turn out when compared to the one with good design in it? Without a good cut and design, that piece of stone would remain a stone and not a valuable piece of jewelr y that people desire anymore. Therefore, as a graphic designer, I pointed out this relationship of design and values of gemstones not only because I believe that they are a good representer of precious things, but gemstones are also referred to my Thai nickname, “Ploy”.

o b j e c t i v e To design a newspaper and a poster that addresses an occuring problem of the global warming. Also to create an awareness of its side effects on our environment.
s o l u t i o n It’s known that global warming is one of the biggest problems facing our world today and everyone is suffering from its side effects. Therefore, this newspaper has a simple, clear mission: educating the readers about the biggest problems facing humanity. Global water crisis, species ex tinc tion, and rapid climate change are some of the main ef fects the world is facing. The name SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and 273 is the Kelvin temperature scale which equals to the zero of Celsius temperature scale. The combination of these two factors corresponds to the main purpose of the paper.

o b j e c t i v e To design a poster that ref lec ts strong visual statement and relates to the subjec t of study. The poster should communicate the idea and st yle of the subjec t.
s o l u t i o n The subject of the poster is about the twins experimentation of Josef Mengele during the Nazi period. During that time, Max Huber was one of many well-known graphic designers that had a unique style. Therefore, this poster was inspired by his style and conveys the message of the twins in a more gentle way.

o b j e c t i v e To create a new product line for an existing brand as well as maintain their existing brand identity. Louis Vuitton is a very challenging brand to be designed for because of its strong identity and brand recognition.
s o l u t i o n Because of Louis Vuit ton’s strong brand and identit y, the LV pat tern is kept in order to maintain the look of the brand. However, the produc ts are showcased inside gold pic ture frames, making them look valuable and precious. The idea is also to illustrate that Louis Vuit ton’s produc ts are truly a piece of ar t, which the customers can appreciate in their living environment.

BOOK D ESI G N
o b j e c t i v e To design an experimental typography book for an upcoming biosonar conference. This conference will be a 3 day event with dif ferent speakers that are familiar with the topic. The book will consist of at least 48 pages that most effectively communicates the message of the conference.
s o l u t i o n The project uses typography and graphic elements to illustrate and represent animal echolocations. Usually echolocations can be found underwater which are normally represented by using dark colors. However, this book takes a different approach in showing the echolocation and sound by using bright colors.

s o l u t i o n Lolita is a novel and later made into a movie. This poster is the 1962 version of the movie, starring James Mason as Prof. Humbert Humbert. The poster is designed by using a lettering technique. The word Lolita is entangling around Mason’s face depicting the obsession he had over the girl and at the same time showing the luring nymphet.

o b j e c t i v e Urban Forest Project is a series of outdoor banner exhibitions taking root in cities around the world. Therefore, the objective of this project is to design a street banner that use the form of, or metaphor for, a tree to make a powerful visual statement about the environment and nature.
s o l u t i o n The banner is designed under the concept of marionetted tree. The idea behind this is that no one should be controlling any trees or nature. This is why this marionetted tree gives us an uncomfortable feeling, almost like it is trying to escape from there. Because trees have their own lives as we do, so we shouldn’t control or treat them as if they were puppets.

f r i e n d s To my classmates, Jan, Karin, Swin, Pat, and my best friends Tay and Aoy. We all experienced hardship and many obstacles throughout courses, but we passed through them together. School wouldn’t be fun without you guys.

Thank you all of you for being such great teachers. You all have taught me how real world’s work is like. From my day one in Graphic Design, Scott Rankin, you really inspired me with your greatness. Thomas, every classes that I took with you were all ver y valuable to me. Roland, your class was like no other. You taught me to see the world in different ways. And last but not least, Mary Scott, you have such an exceptional vision that guide our graphic design department.
