tudent Reports With benchmarking in literacy and numeracy undertaken and a review of checklists and anecdotal notes on children’s application to daily classroom activities, the teaching staff of Brentwood Park have been busily assigning progression points in relation to achievements within the Victorian Curriculum and writing student reports! They were most appreciative of the day afforded to them on Friday 8 June which greatly contributed to the time consumed to undertake this task. This week, members of the school’s principal class team have been busily reading the reports prior to their printing. The reports will be distributed next week on Thursday 28 June. We trust parents will take the opportunity to celebrate in the achievements of their children.

In this week’s newsletter, we present a two page feature from the history inquiry unit undertaken by the Year 5 classes which culminated in a recent educational excursion to Sovereign Hill and an interactive 1850s day back at school. The Year 2 classes also concluded their history and geography inquir y units and the development of our current multicultural society with a Cultural Morning Tea! Parents were in attendance with a highlight undoubtedly being the student performance of the song, “Hello to all the Children of the World”.
S
chool Canteen Bellbrook catering would like to wish all staff, students and families a safe and happy holiday break and inform you that the last canteen day for term 2, is Friday 29th June and the first canteen day for term 3 is Wednesday 18th July.
S
RC Food Pantry On the 19th of June, our school fundraised for the Berwick Church of Christ through our annual Food Pantry day. The Food Pantry program is where you bring a non-perishable item to school to support those in need in our community. It was a great success, hundreds of items were brought across the school. A big thank you to everyone who contributed. Aleeza - 6LM SRC

urriculum Highlights As the school term comes to an end, so too does a number of the inquiry units undertaken by the children during the term. These inquiry units are often related to the history, geography or science curriculum and can often complement the literacy and numeracy activities studied.

ew Attendance Requirements If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence. Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.
CHINESE SISTER SCHOOL VISIT...
For the last three years, Brentwood Park Primary School has hosted very successful visitations from our Chinese sister school; Yangzhong Experimental Primary School. Such visitations are facilitated throughout the state between Victorian schools and Jiangsu schools.
By now, parents should have received a letter in the post advising them again of the changes and their legal responsibility. Parents are asked to complete the PERMISSION SLIP—SMS MESSAGES. This will allow Brentwood Park Primary School to update CASES 21 and enable SMS messages to be sent to mobile phones. Email addresses are also requested. Confidentiality of the information provided will be maintained and only used for the specific purpose, unless otherwise required by law.
Following the previous successful visits to Victoria over past years, the schools in Jiangsu would like to visit their sister schools in Victoria again this year. The school visits will be for 7 nights/ 6 days between 23 July 30 July 2017 depending upon flights. The maximum number of visitors will be twelve students and two teachers from each school. The host school activities / homestay arrangements would be similar to last year. This continues to be a great opportunity for our school community and we remain hopeful that with support from volunteer school families, we can accommodate this year’s visitation. We will soon be forwarding more details to families and seeking interest for hosting. Research in sister school relationships often highlights the positive impact that such relationships can have across a range of areas for students, schools and the school community. Sister schools contribute to:
Intercultural understanding community
within
the
school
Increased global awareness and internationalisation within the school community Opportunities to better understand one’s own culture/ country Personal development of the student e.g. leadership, maturity, independence Improved ability of students to adjust to different situations Opportunities for sharing pedagogies and engage in joint curriculum development Opportunities for reciprocal travel Enhancement of the reputation of the school

D
esignated Neighbourhood Boundary and Future Enrolments The Victorian Schools Building Authority [VSBA] has analysed the enrolment pattern of schools for 2018 against their Designated Neighbourhood Boundaries [DNB] and current excess space, and have provided schools a ranking on a priority matrix for relocatable building provision. As a result of this and changed policy in relation to the provision of additional relocatable classrooms, we have been advised to manage our future enrolment within the facilities we currently have on site. This results in “capping” the number of students we can enrol from outside our Designated Neighbourhood Boundary. We ar e actively tr ying to ascertain enrolments within our DSB to enable us to confirm enrolments with families who are out of our DSB. Principal projections of enrolment will be forwarded to the Department of Education and Training in August.
P
rep Enrolments 2019 Prep enrolments are now being taken for next year! If any of our current families have a child who is commencing Year Prep next year, could they please ensure that they complete the enrolment procedure. Tania Lucas, our Year Prep transition coordinator has already been visiting kindergartens and other early learning centres to introduce herself and to ascertain if prospective families reside within our Designated Neighbourhood Boundary [DNB]. Enrolments need to be finalised to ensure the children currently out of our DNB and on a “waiting list” for Year Prep 2019 can finalise their enrolment.

LEASE DIRECT MONEY FOR EXCURSIONS, ETC TO YOUR CLASSROOM TEACHER - NOT TO THE OFFICE.
Please hand money and permission slip in sealed envelopes to classroom teacher first thing in the morning. By following this process teachers are aware that your child will be attending the excursion and mark them off their lists. Money is collected by office staff and processed each morning and a receipt given back to teachers along with permission slips. All money is tallied and banked daily – no money is left on the premises. If you wish to pay by credit card, a proforma is available from the office. This can be filled out with details and placed in a sealed envelope and handed to your classroom teacher Please deliver cash in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and grade on the front by 9.30 a.m. If you have a number of children attending an excursion you can place all money and permission slips in the one envelope with children’s names and grades on the front and deliver to one of the children’s teachers. The office staff will be able to allocate money to the children’s particular items and distribute permission slips and receipts back to teachers. Envelopes are available at the office. If you have a large amount to be paid or need to process an EFTPOS transaction through a savings account you can make arrangements to pay at the office. We also have a new Qkr payment system on our Skoolbag app. If you download our Skoolbag app and Qkr payment app you can now pay for your child’s excursion on line. All change will be delivered to the children in the afternoon. Re-imbursements will only be made under certain circumstances – they will be made by cheque (no cash transactions are made). Notices are sent out with a final collection time – please adhere to this time. All money and per mission slips ar e required to be sent back by this date – otherwise your child will not be able to attend. This enables us to confirm bookings and numbers with bus companies and organisations we are visiting. Also we need to send details to the Department of Education Emergency Management for all excursions, camps, etc. We also need to accommodate students who will not be attending. We would appreciate it if parents could please follow these processes.
