arent Opinion Survey 240 families have already received an invitation to participate in the Department of Education and Training’s Parent Opinion Survey 2018. This survey is designed to assist our school in gaining an understanding of parents’ perception of school climate, student engagement and relationships with our parent community. The survey results will help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All r esponses to the sur vey ar e anonymous.
ew Attendance Requirements If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence. Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.
In past years, we were able to achieve 85% participation rate and we are hoping to achieve a similar response rate this year despite participants being required to complete the survey online. To date we have only had 63 parents respond which only equates to a 26.25% return rate. We’d really appreciate 100% as we value your feedback.
Parents have been advised of the changes and their legal responsibility. An update to CASES 21, the school’s administration program, enables SMS messages to be sent to mobile phones.

ife Education Van This week, the Life Education Van arrived at our school. The Life Education Van is a wonderful educational resource which visits our school annually as part of the drug and health education of your child. The program is being implemented across the school from Tuesday 14 August to Friday 24 August.
Upon receipt of the SMS, parents are asked to respond, however, if parents are aware that their child is going to be absent, notifying the school through the absentee form available on skoolbag is preferable prior to the SMS forwarding. Our parent response to our SMS forwarding fluctuates between 50% to 100% for replies. However, 100% each day would be much appreciated! Even better would be 100% notification of absence prior to roll marking!

student completing the challenge, but also for 4 students reaching 100 books. In Grade 5 and 6 this is an amazing effort as the required books are much longer and need a lot more perseverance. Fantastic job.
Given the implementation of the Designated Neighbourhood Boundary [DNB] we need to ensure provision for families for which Brentwood Park is their local school. However, we do have families on a waiting list for enrolment should enrolment be made available to them.
Encourage students to read more books and enjoy reading Improve literacy levels. The Challenge requires students from Year 3-6 to read 15 nominated books between the beginning of the school year and the end of August, and students in years Prep - 2 to have experienced 30 books from the nominated list.
Here at Brentwood Park Primary School, we have had an amazing effort within the school in competing the PRC. So far, 64% (561 students) of the school has completed the challenge, reading a total number of 29,291 book so far.

arent Modelling of Safe Practices Whether in the role of pedestrian or driver, it is important that adults model safe practices to their children and to others! What message do we convey when we drive and park unlawfully or cross roads unsafely! The City of Casey provides school crossing supervisors to enable parents and students to cross roads safely when coming to school and when leaving school upon dismissal. Please use the school crossing and then walk the short distance to your parked car. The safety of our children must come before any perceived slight inconvenience by not doing so! SAFETY FIRST.
I
mproving safety around our school Seven classes have completed the challenge so far, and As students come to and from school it’s important one class had every student reach 100 books. Congratulations to FLP. A number of other classes are for drivers and pedestrians to be aware and take care very, very close behind with only one or two students during these busy times. Please by mindful when still to enter their books. parking and picking up children before and after each school day. City of Casey will be monitoring traffic A special mention needs to go to 6LM, not only for every control for the children’s safety.

ports Shorts REGIONAL SPORTS NEWS: Congratulations to the school mixed netball team for placing 3rd in the Regional Netball Championships. Unfortunately we didn’t progress through to the state final, however, all of our students can be extremely proud of their magnificent achievements this season. The first game our school played in was a relatively one sided game, with us winning comfortably 20 to 6.The second game was a far different game. After trailing for the majority of the game, we managed to get in front and we were able to hold our lead and win 16 to 14. The third game was a huge challenge. We were behind all game and even with multiple changes made we couldn’t match the opposition. Our first loss of the year! The final score was 10 to 13.
In the ‘B’ division, the boy’s team were tremendous, finishing with 2 wins and 3 losses. Cruzze, Lachlan, Azar and Heath were prominent in each game. Finally, the girls team were close to finishing 2nd, however, ended up finishing 3rd due to drawing 2 games. Jessica, Isabelle, Nastasia and Angelina displayed great leadership and inspirational play. The other team members were great too throughout the day. Jim Narayan and Mel Dennis.H&PE

Matthew and Tyson’s defensive work was superb, constantly repelling attacks. The mid court players, Jessie, Isabelle, Hazel, Samko, Alex, Nastasia and Brian were tremendous. LEASE DIRECT MONEY FOR EXCURSIONS, ETC TO YOUR CLASSROOM TEACHER - NOT TO THE OFFICE.
Please hand money and permission slip in sealed envelopes to classroom teacher first thing in the morning. By following this process teachers are aware that your child will be attending the excursion and mark them off their lists. Money is collected by office staff and processed each morning and a receipt given back to teachers along with permission slips. All money is tallied and banked daily – no money is left on the premises. If you wish to pay by credit card, a proforma is available from the office. This can be filled out with details and placed in a sealed envelope and handed to your classroom teacher Please deliver cash in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and grade on the front by 9.30 a.m. If you have a number of children attending an excursion you can place all money and permission slips in the one envelope with children’s names and grades on the front and deliver to one of the children’s teachers. The office staff will be able to allocate money to the children’s particular items and distribute permission slips and receipts back to teachers. Envelopes are available at the office. If you have a large amount to be paid or need to process an EFTPOS transaction through a savings account you can make arrangements to pay at the office. We also have a new Qkr payment system on our Skoolbag app. If you download our Skoolbag app and Qkr payment app you can now pay for your child’s excursion on line. All change will be delivered to the children in the afternoon. Re-imbursements will only be made under certain circumstances – they will be made by cheque (no cash transactions are made). Notices are sent out with a final collection time – please adhere to this time. All money and per mission slips ar e required to be sent back by this date – otherwise your child will not be able to attend. This enables us to confirm bookings and numbers with bus companies and organisations we are visiting. Also we need to send details to the Department of Education Emergency Management for all excursions, camps, etc. We also need to accommodate students who will not be attending. We would appreciate it if parents could please follow these processes.
