arent Opinion Survey Thank you, to those families who have completed the brief online Parent Opinion Survey. Although we distributed 240 personalized links to the survey, we’ve only achieved 69 respondents. Unfortunately, this only equates to a 28.75% response rate. In past years when paper surveys were distributed, we achieved approximately 85% of our sample returned. Despite the disappointing response rate, we do appreciate the contribution of those 69 families who contributed to the process. The results will be forwarded to the school in due course.

eet some more of our Environmentalists! Most of our students are very responsible and “do the right thing - put rubbish in the bin”, however, there must be some who don’t, otherwise, where would this bag of discarded snack wrappers have come from? Mary M and Ebony H from 4GD as responsible young environmentalists took the initiative and cleaned up the discarded wrappers from various locations around the school yard. Thank you, both!!

arking and Maintaining Safety Around our School It’s important for drivers and pedestrians to be aware and take care during busy times, particularly when school is dismissed. Please by mindful when parking and picking up children at these times. The parking bays at the front gated entrance to the school are strictly a pick up and drop off zone: 8:00—9:15 a.m. and 3:00—4:00 p.m. PLEASE do not park during these designated times! City of Casey will be monitoring traffic control for the children’s safety and will issue parking infringement notices!! Additionally, the City of Casey provides school crossing supervisors to enable parents and students to cross roads safely when coming to school and when leaving school upon dismissal. Please use the school crossing and then walk the short distance to your parked car. The safety of our children must come before any perceived slight inconvenience by not doing so! SAFETY FIRST.

N

ew Attendance Requirements If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence. Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility. An update to CASES 21, the school’s administration program, enables SMS messages to be sent to mobile phones. Upon receipt of the SMS, How wonderful would it be to have ALL of our students parents are asked to respond, however, if parents are follow their example and keep our school grounds tidy by aware that their child is going to be absent, notifying the ensuring all wrappers and food scraps are placed in the school through the absentee form available on Skoolbag is preferable prior to the SMS forwarding. rubbish bins provided.

At the session, we met Sachindi again and she was very helpful when our marvellous students asked questions and needed help with the math activities. We learnt about shuffling numerically on paper and with cards. There are two types of formats, which was an out shuffle and an in shuffle. An out shuffle is when you shuffle the numbers and the two outside numbers (12345) stay the same as the unshuffled number. Whereas an in shuffle completely changes the number. To do an out or an in shuffle on a piece of paper, you need to set out your order of unshuffled numbers in two rows. Then you need to draw a zig zag from the top to the bottom in a Z shape. For an in shuffle, you will do the same steps, but you do a mirrored Z shape instead. We have been told to not think about left or right but think about the top or bottom. Also, a resurrecting deck is when the shuffled number returns to its unshuffled combination.

The Challenge requires students from Year 3-6 to read 15 nominated books between the beginning of the school year and the end of August, and students in years Prep - 2 to have experienced 30 books from the nominated list.

LEASE DIRECT MONEY FOR EXCURSIONS, ETC TO YOUR CLASSROOM TEACHER - NOT TO THE OFFICE.

Please hand money and permission slip in sealed envelopes to classroom teacher first thing in the morning. By following this process teachers are aware that your child will be attending the excursion and mark them off their lists. Money is collected by office staff and processed each morning and a receipt given back to teachers along with permission slips. All money is tallied and banked daily – no money is left on the premises. If you wish to pay by credit card, a proforma is available from the office. This can be filled out with details and placed in a sealed envelope and handed to your classroom teacher Please deliver cash in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and grade on the front by 9.30 a.m. If you have a number of children attending an excursion you can place all money and permission slips in the one envelope with children’s names and grades on the front and deliver to one of the children’s teachers. The office staff will be able to allocate money to the children’s particular items and distribute permission slips and receipts back to teachers. Envelopes are available at the office. If you have a large amount to be paid or need to process an EFTPOS transaction through a savings account you can make arrangements to pay at the office. We also have a new Qkr payment system on our Skoolbag app. If you download our Skoolbag app and Qkr payment app you can now pay for your child’s excursion on line. All change will be delivered to the children in the afternoon. Re-imbursements will only be made under certain circumstances – they will be made by cheque (no cash transactions are made). Notices are sent out with a final collection time – please adhere to this time. All money and per mission slips ar e required to be sent back by this date – otherwise your child will not be able to attend. This enables us to confirm bookings and numbers with bus companies and organisations we are visiting. Also we need to send details to the Department of Education Emergency Management for all excursions, camps, etc. We also need to accommodate students who will not be attending. We would appreciate it if parents could please follow these processes.
