t first glance, the list of strikes against him puts dents in his legacy: the allegations of cheating in college and adultery as a pastor and married man, the distance he showed with different people in his movement, and the stroke of red communism that the FBI had a hand in painting to discredit his life’s work. For someone who grew up worshiping saints, I found these charges refreshing because they made his example easier to follow. Yet, despite this evidence of Dr. King’s humanity, every year people speak of his work as something unattainable. If you look at his work through a modern lens, at first glance it seems difficult to replicate. For example, King was primarily sponsored by his congregation, thereby beholden to the people he served and not to government or corporate interests. In our times of austerity and economic inequality, very few advocates can work under such an agreement. They must diversify their funding sources to include philanthropists and benevolent venture funders--they owe those funders, not the people. And, too many of us think that, because we made a mistake in our lives, activism doesn’t belong to us as a collective. In fact, it does. We ought to work as change agents in the different capacities we have. To wit, the redacted parts of King’s speech at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963 aren’t commercial-ready. To this day his social and economic vision for the American “Negro’ sparks controversy about his life post-Dream speech. In his boldest statement, Dr. King says, “... they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir,” which speaks to the centuries-old argument for reparations for the descendants of the slaves that ensured America’s prosperity. The entire life history of such a complex man can’t fully be taught in schools, but we do a large disservice to him, his legacy, and the legacies of others if we don’t teach students these nuances--both his moments of triumph and his flaws-- early on. Obviously, when first introducing this subject, we don’t have to give them the breadth of Dr. King’s--and other prominent figures in American history--life, but we need to find a balance between worship and critique so this generation of kids understand that, yes, they can change the world and open hearts, too. Dear Friend. I am writing to seek your c o op e r a t ion over this business, Please due welcome this letter from Kenya. I am (Mr. Josephat Willis) accountant Director at Kenya Commercial Bank (K.C.B) With due respect, I have decided to contact you on a business transaction that will be beneficial to both of us and our family as i believe God directed me to you. At the bank’s last accounts/auditing evaluations for year 2013, my staffs came across an old account which was being maintained by a foreign client who used to resident in Kenya Nairobi whom we learned was among the deceased passengers of AUTO-CRASH accident on November 2007 in Nairobi City of Kenya, the deceased was unable to run this account since his death, This bank account has remained dormant without the knowledge of his family as the funds was placed in fixed deposit account in my bank for future investment by the client and we have tried to contact his next of the kin but our effort was in vain so we later gathered that every body in his family died in the Accident as the entire family was travelling from Nairobi to another city before the Auto-crash. Since his demise, even other members of his family haven’t applied for the claims of this fund and it has been in the safe deposit account until I discovered that it cannot be claimed since our client is a foreign national and we are sure that he has no next of kin here to file claims over the claim of the funds as he passed away with his entire family. As the director of the department, this discovery was brought to my office so as to decide what is to be done. I decided to seek ways through which to transfer this money out of the bank and out of the country too to use it to help the less privilege and myself including whom will help me get this transfer done instead of allowing this funds to be divert to the Govt Treasury account. The total amount in the account is Forty million five hundred thousand dollars only (USD40,500,000.00).with my positions as the director of the bank, I am handicapped because I cannot operate foreign accounts and cannot lay bonafide claim over this money so i need your assistance. The client was a foreign national and i am just asking you to act as his next of kin and I will supply you with all the necessary information and bank data to assist you in being able to apply as the

next of kin to this account then i will authorize my staffs to release the funds to you. The total sum will be shared as follows: 40% for me, 35% for you then %25 percent go to the less Privilege and Charity home worldwide in our name meanwhile whatever expenses incidental occur during the transfer will be footed by both of us as partner to avoid delays. The transfer is risk free on both sides hence you are going to follow my instruction till the fund is transfer to your bank account. Since I work in this bank that is why you should be confident in the success of this transaction because you will be updated with information as at when desired. I will wish you to keep this transaction secret and confidential as I am hoping to retire with my share of this money at the end of transaction which will be when this money is safe in your account. I will then come over to your country for sharing of the funds according to the previously agreed percentages. You might even have to advise me on possibilities of investment in your country or elsewhere of our choice. May God help you to help me to a restive retirement. Please for further information and enquirers feel free to contact me back immediately for more explanation and better understanding. Despite Wall Street’s recent gains, the foreclosure crisis that displaced 10 million Americans continues to wreak havoc on communities. One ongoing problem is that 10.7 million homeowners are stuck in underwater homes, in which the mortgage is more than the house is currently worth. Although the federal government doled out $700 billion to Wall Street via TARP during the 2008 financial crisis, it has not taken bold action to solve this problem. Money set aside during the bailout to help homeowners remains largely unspent, and a key federal housing regulator refused to pursue mortgage writedowns for struggling borrowers, even though their own analysis showed these loan modifications would save the agency money. On Friday January 17th, over 150 supporters of people without housing and day laborers marched to Portland City Hall to demand the City Council live up to King’s vision of a truly compassionate society, one that does not require some people to live in impoverished conditions, while others reap the rewards of avarice. The boisterous crowd called on City leadership to start acting on behalf of all people in the city, not just the business interests. Day laborers and people without housing have been under attack by the City.

I’m the vice Chairman of the International Investigations and Anti Fraud Task Force, For African Region 2014. Sir, we the entire delegates of the above office flew into Lagos city of Nigeria recently because of numerous complaints filed against Nigerian government on their inability to pay foreign beneficiaries Inheritance, Contracts and Compensatory funds into their respective banks accounts even after they must have collected all required transfer fees from these foreign beneficiaries. This is the reason why we

were mandated by the United Nations (US) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to fly into West Africa and rectify these problems by making sure foreign beneficiaries receive their long over due funds fund without making further upfront payment(s). From the time we came into Nigeria, we have been able to repatriate some funds that was wrongly diverted into different bank accounts abroad by the bad eggs in the Nigerian banks and ministries. Further more ,from your file here on my table I’m so surprised that you have not received your payment up till this moment as from what I saw in your file, you have complied with all the transfer documents that shows and proved your legitimacy as the beneficiary of this fund. We signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian govt to pay off all certified foreign beneficiaries from our own liquidity (Available Funds) in our UN / We signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian govt to pay off all certified foreign benef iciaries from our own liquidity (Available Funds) in our UN / EU controlled bank in UK, and we will debit the Nigerian government and recover our money from same through their crude oil. The small, intimate space offers a perfect setting for 5065 Horizon Line, an exhibition of the painter’s delicate watercolors. Created from her imagination, Meisel’s subtle landscapes and seascapes demonstrate the DC-based artist’s mastery of form, color, and light. I’ve been painting horizon lines for as long as I’ve been painting, Meisel says. She did not see the ocean until she was 22, and most of her seascapes and landscapes have been envisioned, yet they trigger viewers’ memories of recognizable places. Since 1970s, the artist has produced hundreds of these serene watercolors, ranging from 1 1/2 inches to 6 inches. A selected number of them (c. 50-65) hang side by side so that their

shared horizon line wraps around the alcove space painted in sky blue. Today I write to inform you that, of the more than 199 submissions we received, yours was not chosen by our jurors for inclusion in the Drawers at this time. Please know that selection was competitive, with submissions from the entire geographical scope of the region we solicited: Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon. The decision not to pursue any disciplinary measure against John Leso, a former army reserve major, is the latest case in which someone involved in the post-9/11 torture of detainees has faced no legal or even professional consequences. In a 31 December letter obtained by the Guardian, the American Psychological Association said it had “determined that we cannot proceed with formal charges in this matter. Consequently the complaint against Dr Leso has been closed.” But the APA did not deny Leso took part in the brutal interrogation of the suspected 20th 9/11 hijacker, Mohammed al-Qahtani, whose treatment the Pentagon official overseeing his military commission ultimately called “torture.” Shawarma (Continental food), 110 Seman Road (Just north of Eden Hotel and Fubar on Seman R o a d ) . Argentine Pesos “Global emerging markets are now trading in full-blown panic mode,”declared Benoit Anne, head of emerging market strategy at Socit Gnrale. The Financial Times headlined that “the emerging market tumble carries echoes of 1990s crisis,” (only to tone this down later and change the title to “emerging markets carry a developing hangover”). Whatever echoes there may or may not be, what is clear is that the global financial crisis “ which many analysts declared to be at end now that the European debt saga finally seemed to be “under control” “ is far from over, and may just have entered into a new phase. The unexpectedly fast-paced retreat of the US federal reserve from quantitative easing and the dimming growth prospects in China appear to be the driving forces behind the panic Hybridity is one of the most

fashionable words in modern society; it is used to describe culture, architecture, media, medicine and even car engines. Thinking about mythological creatures such as the centaur and Cyclops, and the fears and anxieties those represented and tried to exorcise, hybridity shows a long and fascinating history. Only since the latest future man instead of god produces those chimeras. What is the etymology of the word and how it functions both literally and metaphorically in the era of technoscience? What is the attitude of art practitioners to hybridity? And how does the art relate to the industry of those hybrids, chimeras and their kin. John Abrams. Mark Adair . Elizabeth Babyn . Gareth Bate . Adrienne Trent_ James Brian Rivers, 23, of Dallas, appeared this morning before U.S. Magistrate Judge Irma C. Ramirez and pleaded guilty to an indictment charging one count of production of child pornography and one count of possession of prepubescent child pornography. He faces a total statutory penalty of at least 15 years and a maximum of 50 years in federal prison, a $500,000 fine, and up to a lifetime of supervised release. Sentencing is set for May 19, 2014, before U.S. District Judge Sam A. Lindsay. Today’s announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaa of the Northern District of Texas. According to documents filed in the case, on June 30, 2013, Rivers left his cell phone at a neighbor’s home. The neighbor looked through the cell phone and observed multiple images of child pornography and called 911. When officers with the Dallas Police Department arrived at the residence, they seized the cell phone and obtained a search warrant for the phone. A forensic review of the phone revealed multiple images and one video depicting child pornography involving a prepubescent child. U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz sentenced Scott Zalewski, age 31, of Federalsburg, Maryland, today to 40 years in prison, followed by lifetime supervised release, for two counts of producing child pornography. Judge Motz ordered that upon his release from prison, Zalewski must register as a sex offender in the place where he resides, where he is an employee, and where he is a student under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Stephen E. Vogt of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Caroline County Sheriff Randy Bounds; and Caroline County State’s Attorney Jonathan Newell. According to the plea agreement, on at least three occasions from July through August 2011, Zalewski took sexually explicit photographs of a minor female, under 12 years of age, including several photographs documenting his sexual abuse of the girl, which he then e-mailed to another person. On January 2, 2013, the Zalewski’s live-in girlfriend provided police with photographs that contained sexually

explicit images of the victim, which she reported finding in Zalewski’s e-mail account. Police arrested Zalewski later on January 2, 2013. A search warrant subsequently executed on Zalewski’s e-mail account recovered digital copies of the sexually explicit pictures of the victim being sent to another individual. More than a dozen other e-mails were also seized, dating from July and August 2011, in which Zalewski was trading sexually explicit images of other children with other individuals. A hard drive recovered from Zalewski’s house and a laptop Zalewski’s ex-girlfriend previously turned over to police were also searched pursuant to a federal warrant. The hard drive contained 45 images of child pornography, dating from approximately April 2008. On the laptop were records of chats in which the defendant discussed and exchanged child pornography with others, dating from approximately December 2006 through October 2007. Text messages recovered from Zalewski’s cell phone showed discussion of child pornography with others on December 31, 2012 and January 1, 2013. Some text messages had image attachments, but the images were deleted and could not be recovered. Zalewski previously pleaded guilty in Caroline County Circuit Court to a second-degree sex offense and to rape in the second degree and was sentenced to a total of 40 years in prison on those charges. Zalewski’s state and federal sentences will be served concurrently. From a young age, the school system has enforced language as an emancipatory force. Within nation building, the homogenization of language is a tool for the creation of a united national identity that is fundamentally regulated. The instrumentalization of language can thus also be traced back to the enacting of imperial rule, violent forms of colonization, and imbalances of power. The correlations created between language and nationa lism make it difficult to reconcile the simultaneously fluid and fixed natures of language. My P15 has the older style wooden rudder. The nylock nut needed to be tightened down a bit to keep the rudder from coming up. No science to it. I just tightened it enough to keep the rudder from coming up. I also built a rudder “indicator” rod. Just a quick glance will tell me if the rudder has

come up, even the slightest bit and if so, just an easy push down on the top of the rod pushes the rudder all the way down. Since I tightened the rudder bolt/nut, it does not rise up anymore. John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that James Pearson, 54, Marshfield, Wisconsin, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 10 years in federal prison, to be followed by 30 years of supervised release, for possessing child pornography. Pearson pleaded guilty to this charge on November 25, 2013. On March 18, 2013, an undercover officer in the Marshfield Police Department downloaded 831 images of child pornography from a computer traced to Pearson’s address. A search warrant revealed that Pearson possessed al-

most 3,000 images of child pornography on his computer and cell phone. Pearson was subject to a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence for possession of child pornography due to prior convictions for attempted second degree sexual assault and fourth degree sexual assault in La Crosse County. Pearson also had two prior Sex Offender Registry violation convictions from South Carolina. The charge against Pearson was the result of an investigation conducted by the Marshfield Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, and Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger. Today, more than ever, we are immersed in the knowledge society: we are being told that networks make it possible for information to circulate freely, and the same for money, and we are being promised that these fluxes will bring us well-being, wealth, and happiness for all. We have moved from the wealth of nations to the wealth of networks: de mo c r a c y at the global scale, connected at the local scale. But even a quick look at the reality surrounding us should suffice to see that cyber-utopism is a dud - never mind the ongoing financial and economic crisis savaging through the world capitalist system. Democracy 2.0 has nothing to do with an open, liberal society and even less so with a revolutionary society made up of autonomous individuals, able to manage together a shared world with the help of non-authoritarian dynamics. Rather on the contrary, one already can state that Society 2.0 looks in many respects disturbingly like the ‘closed society’ Karl Popper was describing as the opposite of Western democracy. Mechanical Turk is the innovation behind “crowdworking,” the low-wage virtual labor phenomenon that has reinvented piecework for the digital age. Created by Amazon in 2005, it remains one of the central platforms^^markets, really^^where crowd-based labor is bought and sold. As many as 500,000 “crowdworkers” power the Mechanical Turk machine, while millions more (no one knows how many exactly) fuel competitor sites like CrowdFlower, Clickworker, CloudCrowd and dozens of smaller ones. On any given day, at any given minute, these workers perform millions of tiny tasks for companies both vast (think Twitter) and humble. Though few of these people have any sense of their finished work product, what they’re doing is helping to power the parts of the Internet that most of us take for granted. Currently, computers are very good at certain sorts of tasks, such as identifying spelling errors, processing raw data and calculating financial figures. However, they are less able to perform others, such as detecting a positive or negative bias in an article, recognizing irony, accurately reading the text off a photograph of a building, determining if something is NSFW (not safe for work) or discerning among ambiguous search results. This is where the “crowd” comes in. In the current iteration of crowdworking, individuals are tasked with those parts of a job that a computer cannot perform. This work is used both to fill in the blanks and to train the computer algorithm to do a better job in the future. What are the images of today that represent the contemporary economic crisis and symbolize the financial cuts that are being enforced across the arts, education and public health systems? What are the realities of these cuts in the context of societies in crisis such as the United States and Western Europe? What is the impact of the images and contextualized discourses that we as academics, practitioners, curators, and cultural commentators are constructing? Workers, pensioners and those who receive benefits and subsidies are presented and portrayed as if they are ?leeching?

Workers, people on benefits, poorer students who receive financial aid, and poorer pensioners all are compiled within a definition of burdening and burgeoning social costs that deserve to be cut from the rest of an ?efficient and productive society.? All states and the District of Columbia use special systems to guarantee that auto insurance is available to those who cannot obtain it in the private market. Each type of system is commonly known as an assigned risk plan, although that term technically applies to only one type of plan. The assigned risk and other plans are known in the insurance industry as the shared, or residual, market. Policyholders in assigned risk plans are assigned to various insurance companies doing business in the state. In the voluntary, or regular, market, auto insurers are free to select policyholders. The percentage of vehicles insured in the shared market is dropping, in part because of the evolution of the nonstandard sector of the voluntary market. The nonstandard market is a niche market for drivers who have a worse than average driving record or drive specialized cars such as high-powered sports cars and custom-built cars. It is made up of both small specialty companies, whose only business is the nonstandard market, and well-known auto insurance companies with nonstandard divisions. Until the mid-1960s, most drivers who did not meet an insurance company’s “standard” or “preferred risk” underwriting criteria could only find coverage in the shared market, where prices are generally much higher and insurers pool or share the profits and losses. With advancements in computer technology that made it easier to set appropriate prices for smaller and smaller risk categories, some insurers began to specialize in insuring drivers with marginally bad driving records. By the late 1990s the nonstandard market accounted for about one-fifth of the total private passenger auto insurance market. This has held steady. A 2008 Conning study found that in 2006 auto insurers specializing in nonstandard private passenger auto insurance had direct premiums written of $36.9 billion, representing 22 percent of the total private passenger auto insurance market. Samuel Gonzales, Poplar, Bluff, Missouri, was sentenced to 600 months in prison Thursday afternoon by United States District Judge Carol E. Jackson, in St. Louis. According to court documents, between January 2011 and January 2013, Gonzales video recorded himself performing sexual acts on a 9-year-old girl. Also, between January 2011 and January 2013, Gonzales attempted to receive child pornography over his telephone by requesting a 13-year-old girl to send him naked images of herself. Gonzales pled guilty in November to one felony count each of production and attempted receipt of child pornography. The case was investigated by Donya Jackson of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, FBI, Poplar Bluff Police Department, and Jefferson County Sheriff ’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Erin Granger handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Spanish archaeologists have discovered a 3,600-year-old Egyptian mummy inside a wooden sarcophagus adorned with rare feather drawings in the ancient city of Luxor, Egypt’s antiquities ministry said Thursday. The two metre-long and 50 centimetre-wide (6.5 feet by 20 inches) sarcophagus was in good condition and its colours were still bright, the ministry said in a statement. Antiquities minister Mo-

hamed Ibrahim said feather drawings are rarely found on ancient coffins. “The sarcophagus goes back to the 17th dynasty (1600 years BC),” said Ali El-Asfar, the head of the antiquities ministry’s pharaonic department. “Its owner could have been an important statesman, according to the sarcophagus’s preliminary examination and its inscriptions.” The sarcophagus bears hieroglyphic inscriptions meant to ease the journey to the afterlife, in accordance with pharaonic beliefs. Brian Patrick Aronhalt, 33, of Winchester, Virginia, previously pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to produce child pornography, one

count of enticing minors to engage in sexually explicit conduct, four counts of producing child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography, and one count of distributing child pornography. Yesterday in district court, he was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison and a lifetime of supervised release following his prison term. Restitution in this matter will be determined during a separate hearing to be scheduled in the next 90 days. “Mr. Aronhalt used deception to repeatedly abuse children,” United States Attorney Timothy J. Heaphy said today. “His case serves as a grim reminder for parents to monitor what their children are doing online. Those of us who work in law enforcement will continue to pursue and prosecute predators like Mr. Aronhalt. We won’t be successful, however, unless parents acknowledge the threat and take steps to help their children stay safe online.” Evidence presented at yesterday’s hearing showed that Aronhalt posed as a minor female online and enticed numerous minor boys to masturbate for him via webcam, which he recorded. Evidence also showed that the defendant’s collection of self-produced webcam videos depicted at least 100 separate minors. The defendant learned from others online how to use a sexually explicit video of a female to appear as a live webcast to the minor boys. Using the pre-recorded video, Aronhalt enticed the boys to masturbate for him via webcam and recorded the sexually explicit conduct. In addition, during the execution of a search warrant, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the D.C. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force found thousands of images depicting child pornography on Aronhalt’s computers. Family albums, collective archives of a time lived, are often composed of photog raphic documentations of not one, but multiple authors. This multiplicity of perspectives along with the presence of numerous signifiers within each photograph allow for the construction of co-existent narratives. Cropping and isolating sections out of the unified surfaces of family photographs fixates new cores, which are closer to one’s narrative, and therefore experience. The new cores however, are never close enough. By way of melting, distorting, penetrating and dissecting fragments of photographs printed on plastic, or confronting objects and their representations, Oneself Through Another, attempts to preserve the self by traversing the void between one time and another. individuals, including celebrities. These boots are both unique in appearance and comfortable to wear. If you plan to get a pair of Ugg Cardy boots it is important to know how to care for them properly. Ugg boots are made of sheepskin, which is a very delicate material. But the Forbes 400, whose 13 richest members made more from their stocks in one year than the entire food stamp budget, includes 50 billionaires who receive farm subsidies. Walmart, which depends on public food stamp subsidies to keep its employees fed, has been forced to announce weaker revenues because so many of its customers have been impacted by the food

stamp cutbacks. Most libertarians oppose government intervention of any type, unless it’s for national defense, homeland security, surveillance, disaster relief, prison funding, the drug war, any subsidies to oil and coal and agricultural companies, bailouts and Quantitative Easing, tax subsidies that mainly benefit the rich, and anything to do with women’s bodies. Imperialism emerged in the United States in the 1890s as a policy designed to obtain markets for its surplus manufactured goods and access to raw materials necessary for its system of production and distribution. These goals required economic and financial penetration by the imperial power, which requires control over the political processes of formally independent nations, making necessary diplomatic maneuvering and direct or indirect military intervention. Thus imperialism is fundamentally undemocratic, because it involves the undermining of the right of nations to sovereignty. Imperialism has been a constant in US policy from 1898 to the present, even though in some historic moments, such as the presidencies of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John Kennedy, and Jimmy Carter, it was presented with a more democratic face. To many Westerners, the patterns of Near Eastern tribal rugs appear mysterious, even unfathomable. But these colorful geometrics are, in fact, windows to a venerable wisdom. Oral histories, passed d o w n through countless generations of weavers, indicate that the motifs embody guidelines for embracing a harmonious posture toward life. Among the great nomadic tribal tribes of Persia and the Caucasus, the weaving of these handknotted art pieces was the sacred activity of women. Since time immemorial, in small isolated encampments far from the workshops of Persian cities, grandmothers, wives and daughters -- often from the age of five or six -- worked on small portable looms. Husband and sons did their share by shearing the fat-tailed sheep and dyeing the yarns. New projects often commenced on an auspicious occasion, such as the birth of a child, but only after special prayers were said for the protection and well being of the weaver’s clan. My Dear Friend, It is my pleasure to contact you after satisfactory appraisal and acceptance of your proven track records. I am Mr. Hwang Tsai, Deputy General Manager; Head of Portfolio Management, Hang Seng Bank Limited, Hong Kong. Following an opportunity in my office, I have a proposition I want to share with you, that will be of immense benefit to both of us. Herewith are the details of this proposition: On May 6th 2005, an estate developer and one of the richest woman in Hong Kong, Late Mrs. Nina Wang, deposited Forty million five hundred thousand United States Dollars under our portfolio management department for a period of Two (2) years, and the deposit matured on the 13th of June 2007 with much significant growth which amounted to a total of Forty-Two million Seven hundred thousand United States Dollars. Prior to the maturity of the said deposit, we got some news that Mrs. Nina Wang died of cancer in April 3rd 2007 and upon maturity, a routine notification was sent to her forwarding address but without responses. After a month, another reminder was sent from my desk and I discovered that the fund was deposited by her without informing anyone of her immediate family as this is peculiar to high profiled individuals. No next of kin was declared in her official papers including the paper work of her bank deposit and she also confided in me the last time she was at my office that no one except me knew of her deposit in my bank. This sum of Forty-Two million Seven hundred thousand United States Dollars. is still in possession of my bank lifeless and unnoticed because there will never be a claim on the funds. All material, immaterial documents and certificates relating to the funds is also in my possession. We cannot release the funds unless somebody applies as the next of kin or relation to the deceased and to this end; we have secured from the probate registry an order of mandamus to locate any relative of Late Mrs. Nina Wang. Against this backdrop, I am proposing to you to stand in as the next of kin to Late Mrs. Nina Wang. Our banking policy here stipulates that at the expiration of Six (6) years such funds will be transferred into banking treasury as unclaimed funds. The money will be approved into your account and subsequently, we shall share in the ratio: 70% for us and 25% for you as gratification for assistance rendered. I will visit your country for the disbursement, according account and subsequently, we shall share in the ratio: 70% for us and 25% for you as gratification for assistance rendered. I will visit your country for the disbursement, according to the percentages indicated once this money gets into your account. And 5% set aside for any expenses incurred in due process of the transaction. Please note that all our correspondences and communications will be strictly via email for now, as my official telephone lines are periodically monitored to assess our level

of customer care in line with our quality management policy. Do not contact me through my official phone numbers nor do I want you contacting me through my official email account. Please observe these instructions religiously. Let me crave your indulgence in portraying sincerity towards this matter, as trust stands to be our watchword in this transaction. Our assurance is that your role is risk free to accord this transaction the legality it deserves as with all modalities in place we are certain in actualizing a hitch free transfer of the funds without any complications. My position in my bank already guarantees the successful execution of this project. We will discuss much in details when I do receive your response. In the meantime, kindly signify your willingness to assist by sending me a message via my personal email: If for some reasons you find no interest in this project I want you to disregard this message and forget I ever contacted you. Kind regards, Mr. Hwang Tsai Deputy General Manager It’s no Iron Man suit, but if you’ve got a knack for civil disobedience and often find yourself on the business end of a Taser, the folks at Hackaday discovered that carbon fiber clothing can actually let you shrug off those electric shocks. To be more specific, they cut open the lining of a sports coat and lined it with endless strips of iron-on no-sew hem tape and carbon fiber tape so that the resulting jacket still had lots of flexibility. The carbon fiber conducts electricity much better than human skin, and since the strips were placed close enough to let the juice flow between them, they were able to dissipate the charge without shocking down the dapperlooking target. Mr. Adolf Martin Package Recovery Unit Admin section 1 +393 288 796 421 Following a two-day trial before U.S. District Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn and less than one hour of deliberation, a federal jury has convicted a 43-yearold Dallas man on various child pornography offenses, announced U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaa of the Northern District of Texas. Ted Lynn Snider was convicted on two counts of transporting and shipping child pornography, one count of receipt of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography. Each of the transporting and shipping child pornography counts as well as the receipt of child pornography count carries a statutory penalty of not less than five years or more than 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. The possession count carries a maximum statutory sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for June 27, 2014. The government presented evidence that in May 2013, the FBI discovered a particular individual, later identified as Snider, was online sharing images and videos of young children engaged in vile and graphic sexual acts. On May 29, 2013, the FBI executed a search warrant at Snider’s residence, and, while at the residence, agents spoke with him. Snider admitted he had been using a file-sharing program to trade files depicting child pornography and that he maintained a categorized child pornography collection on his computer and external hard drives. The FBI seized electronic evidence that contained hundreds of images and videos of child pornography. The US National Library of Medicine1 says that if you have trouble moving around or feel pain and stiffness in your body, you could have arthritis. In the majority of cases arthritis causes pain and swelling in the joints. Eventually a swollen joint can suffer severe damage. In some cases, arthritis can cause problems in the patient’s eye, skin or other organs. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)2, about 1 in every 5 American adults, i.e. 50 million people, have doctor-diagnosed arthritis. As the country’s population ages, it is estimated that this num-

ber will increase to at least 67% by 2030. Arthritis is not a single disease - it is a term that covers over 100 medical conditions. Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis and generally affects elderly patients. Some forms of arthritis can affect people at a very early age. What causes arthritis? In order to better understand what is going on when a person suffers from some form of arthritis, let us look at how a joint works. Diagram of a Joint Basically, a joint is where one bone moves on another bone. Ligaments hold the two bones together. The ligaments are like elastic bands, while they keep the bones in place your muscles relax or contract to make the joint move. Cartilage covers the bone surface to stop the two bones from rubbing directly against each other. The covering of cartilage allows the joint to work smoothly and painlessly. A capsule surrounds the joint. The space within the joint - the joint cavity - has synovial fluid. Synovial fluid nourishes the joint and the cartilage. The synovial fluid is produced by the synovium (synovial membrane) which lines the joint cavity. If you have arthritis something goes wrong with the joint(s). What goes wrong depends on what type of arthritis you have. It could be that the cartilage is wearing away, a lack of fluid, autoimmunity (your body attacking itself ), infection, or a combination of many factors. Around 8:45 on the morning of July 15, 1997, international fashion designer Gianni Versace returned home to his Miami Beach mansion on Ocean Drive following a walk to a local cafe. Suddenly, a man approached Versace, pulled out a pistol, and killed him with two shots to the back of his head. The killer was eventually identified as Andrew Phillip Cunanan, who-for reasons that remain unclear-had begun a murderous spree in late April 1997. Dear Fund Beneficiary, I am Dr, Mrs. Juliana Egoh, the Special/Personal Assistant to (Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi) the Executive Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). I have urgent secret information for you which will be of vital help to you, I cannot keep it further as my conscience reminds me of my duties as one who believes in equity and fair play. My boss and some of his colleagues from other ministries who are assigned with the duty of transferring some money to you have conspired together to divert your fund to another account and the strategy they employed was by demanding several charges from you, all the demands are illegal just to frustrate you to abandon your payment for them. They are currently work-

ing with the finance minister, Attorney General of the Federation and some commercial bank chief executives in order to perfect this evil act. He has counterparts in almost every country like United Kingdom, United States, Spain, Holland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia and India etc. As this will then open an avenue for them to tag your payment as an unclaimed debt and will have it transferred to their own coded account overseas. As a matter of fact, (Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi) the Executive Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and his colleagues instructed me to change your payment details with the one they have just nominated for immediate transfer but i refused, note that they will frustrate you for ever if you continue dealing with them because they will never

do the right thing since the quest for too much worldly gains has blinded their sense of reasoning, am in charge of credit comptroller to infuse all those information but i am purposely delaying it as my mindset does not accept such scam. I can release this fund to you if I am sure that I will be protected if not my life will be in danger? This money will be transferred to their private account on or before 28th of February, 2014. If you are willing to get your total payment direct into your a c c o u n t or through online banking, call or email me to reconfirm your account particulars and other related information’s but if you chooses other legitimate ways let me know as well and forward your contact details to me immediately upon the receipt of this message. At the receipt of this letter kindly call me or you forward your confidential cell phone number to me but don’t expose this top secret please, even to those you are currently communicating with in respect of your payment both local and international and note that number to me but don’t expose this top secret please, even to those you are currently communicating with in respect of your payment both local and international and note that they are all agents working for the CBN Executive Governor (Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi) so stop communicating with them henceforth or you will remain frustrated in their cage, they have contacts all over the World but so far as am concerned your payment will not be tampered with, but please Kindly consider this secret information as a top secret and highly privileged and it should be kept till the end of time as having it divulged is a great risk on my side, if you’re not interested do not bother to reply, otherwise your prompt response will do you a lot of good by having the right things done in your payment Fund Release Order Documents which was regularized by unknown crooks. You should have asked why after all the series of fees you paid yet the transaction was still not concluded, is a deliberate act to frustrate your effort out of the business. Looking forward to your immediate response. For further clarifications, do not hesitate to contact my office. Yours faithfully. Blockade by First Nations halts Montreal-Toronto trains The blockade was at Marysville, Ontario, between Belleville and Kingston. “Today is a national day of action. A call was put out and this is how we chose to take our part. Today is about raising awareness and gaining support for the issue of murdered and missing indigenous women. It’s a national issue and we choose to take part in unity with other nations,” said Karahkwinetha, a protester who would only give her first name. Service between Toronto and Ottawa and between Toronto and Montreal was halted. Trains travelling in the Montreal-Toronto corridor were replaced by chartered buses. Ontario Provincial Police in Smith Falls, Ontario, have con f i r med that Wyman R o a d / Highway 2 in Tyendinaga is also blocked. Earlier this month, protesters from the Tyendinaga Mohawk reserve blocked a highway over what they said was a lack of action on investigations into missing and murdered aboriginal women. In calling for democratic control of our food, De Schutter and Patel are threatening the business interests of some of the world’s largest and wealthiest corporations. Given that De Schutter’s report has been submitted to the highest international representatives of civil society, it has the potential to effect change, but only if there is enough pressure from below. The report is “only as good as the mobilization that is able to use it.” Although it provides “ammunition to groups like La Via Campesina in their ongoing fight to be able to democratize the food system,” he warned that there is much work to be done, saying, “we do need to keep organizing and to keep the pressure up and in fact to be dreaming much bigger than we’re allowed to be dreaming by the governments that purport to represent us.” Wall Street banks handed out $26.7 billion in bonuses to their 165,200 employees last year. That amount would be

enough to more than double the pay for all 1,085,000 Americans who work full-time at the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. Built in 1909, Bonneville Fish Hatchery is one of the oldest and largest in the Columbia River Basin, located in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The hatchery annually produces over 11 million young fall Chinook salmon, three million coho eggs and 500,000 young steelhead for a number of rivers in the basin as part of an agreement under the 1938 Mitchell Act. This was designed to mitigate the loss of habitat from the numerous hydropower projects External link built along the Columbia Basin in the 1930s to provide cheap power and aid in river navigation. Development came at a severe cost to the previously prolific wild salmon and steelhead runs, estimated at 16 million, that sustained regional Native American tribes as the fish returned from the ocean. After over a century of steadily declining migrations, resulting in 13 threatened and endangered salmon and steelhead species with returns averaging 600,000, things might be looking up. An estimated 1.2 million of the Chinook salmon species alone crossed the Bonneville Dam fish ladders during the fall 2013 migration. Caroline Looney-Hunt of the Yakama Nation tells IPS she has been a tribal fisherwoman for over 40 years, since age 12. “I was the only girl fishing with my three younger brothers and my cousin and stepdad, who was also my uncle,” she said. According to tradition, when a brother dies, the surviving brother will raise his children. When her father died at age 35, her mother and 10 siblings faced a crisis but survived through fishing the Columbia. A tribal treaty External link with the U.S. government allows the Yakama, Warm Springs, Nez Perce and Umatilla tribes special fishing rights on the Columbia. The tribes have been an important part of the recent restoration of salmon migrations, according to the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fisheries Commission (CRITFC). All four tribes in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon have implemented, with the help of hired biologists, successful hatchery programmes that have restored low and previously extinct salmon and steelhead runs. Stuart Ellis, a biologist at CRITFC, says there are three types of hatcheries under the Mitchell Act. Production hatcheries tend to be the largest, like Bonneville, and are designed to mitigate the loss of salmon for commercial and sports fisheries and tribes, while restoration ones aim to repopulate extinct and threatened runs with wild salmon. The third method combines restoration with production, which is what the tribes prefer. Yet some critics believe that hatcheries represent yet another threat to wild salmon. The group’s 500 -kilometre journey, which began March 8 in western Saskatchewan, will end Thursday in Edmonton at the Truth and Reconciliation hearings where they’ll hear about the effects of Canada’s residential schools. Ann Heinrichs, who has adopted two aboriginal girls, says they would still be with their parents if not for the residential school system. (CBC) About 150,000 First Nation, Inuit and Mtis children were removed from their communities and forced to attend the schools between 1931 and 1996. Students endured substandard living conditions, emotional, physical and sexual abuse. An Amati violin, once owned by the Italian leader Benito Mussolini, is to be sold at Bonhams Musical Instruments Sale in London on 12 May. It is estimated at 100,000-150,000. The violin was made in around 1700 in the northern Italian town of Cremona by Hieronymus Amati, grandson of Andrea Amati who in the 16th century is credited with creating the violin family; the violin, viola and cello. Hieronymus was the last instrument maker in the famous family and his father, Nicol, is considered one of the finest violin makers in history, rivaled only by Antonio Stradivari and Andrea Guarneri. Benito Mussolini was Prime Minister of Italy from 1922 to 1943 but is better known as Il Duce - The Leader - after the imposition of a one party Fascist state in 1925. He was a keen violinist and played duets with his fourth son, Romano. When Swedish authorities on Thursday attempted to deport refugee and father of two Ghader Ghalamere by airplane to Iran, something extraordinary happened. The other passengers on the flight staged a peaceful protest to stop the airplane from taking off. Ghalamere, who is Kurdish, left his birthplace of Iran years ago due to what he says is persecution -- including threat of torture and execution -- for his past political activities. He relocated to Sweden, where he was living with his wife Fatemeh, who is a Swedish resident, and their two young children. After Ghalamere’s failed attempts to efforts to attain residency status for himself, Swedish authorities attempted to deport him to Iran on Thursday, via an airplane leaving Astersund, with Stockholm as its first stop. As hardworking Americans file their taxes today, it’s a good time to be reminded that ordinary taxpayers pick up the tab for special interest loopholes in our tax laws. A new U.S. PIRG report released today revealed that the average American taxpayer in 2013 would have to shoulder an extra $1,259 in state and federal taxes to make up for the revenue lost due to the use of offshore tax havens by corporations and wealthy individuals. Average taxpayers and small business owners foot the bill for offshore tax dodging. Every dollar in taxes companies avoid by booking profits to shell companies in tax havens must be balanced by cuts to public programs, higher taxes for the rest of us, or more debt. Every year, corporations and wealthy individuals avoid paying an estimated $184 billion in state and federal income taxes by using complicated accounting tricks to shift their profits to offshore tax havens. Of that $184 billion, $110 billion is avoided specifically by corporations. DRILL PILL!!! The POWER of male enhancement! Warm temperatures, with dry and windy conditions will lead to increased fire danger over much of the Desert Southwest starting Tuesday. SPC has highlighted areas of Elevated and Critical risk for Tuesday with additional areas through Saturday. In addition to the fire danger, gusty winds will result in travel difficulties for high profile vehicles as well as lowered visibilities with blowing dust. BP’s oil continues to take its toll on other areas of the Louisiana marsh, where people living in low-lying coastal communities are having to contemplate moving, hence abandoning their culture and way of life, due to the erosion of oiled marsh coupled with rising seas from climate change. Despite all of this ongoing evidence of BP’s deleterious impact on the Gulf of Mexico region, President Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency has decided to allow the oil giant back into Gulf waters to search for more oil leases. The impact of the BP disaster is not going away: Crude oil persists in the environment for, in some cases, decades. A full 25 years after the Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska, the ongoing presence of

relatively fresh oil in Prince William Sound continues to surprise scientists. Migratory and reproductive cycles of regional wildlife continue to be severely affected, and at least one species of sea turtles in the area is now nearing extinction, according to a recent report by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). Migratory patterns of turtles, as well as other species, were impacted by the massive amount of oil injected into the region. A current pejorative adjective is narcissistic. Generally, a narcissist is anyone better looking than you are, but lately the adjective is often applied to those ‘liberals’ who prefer to improve the lives of others rather than exploit them. Apparently, a concern for others is self-love at its least attractive, while greed is now a sign of the hightest altruism. But then to reverse, periodically, the meanings of words is a very small price to pay for our vast freedom not only to conform but to consume. They’re known to many as “Gitmo North” or “Little Guantanamo”: restrictive units in federal prisons in Illinois and Indiana that cut off inmates from almost all contact with their families and loved ones. Prisoners get two 15-minute phone calls a week. When their family and friends travel for their two 4-hour visits a month, they are not allowed to touch each other. No hugs. No arms around shoulders. Just a phone call on two sides of a thick plastic window. The conversation is monitored by guards, who could stop it at any moment if inmates speak in a language other than English, use hand signals, or break another one of the many visiting rules. A call for the decolonisation and demilitarisation of the Pacific came from women at a regional gathering of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) in Auckland April 25-27. Women attended from Rapa, Polynesia/Te Ao Maohi, Japan, the Philippines, Aotearoa, Australia and Hawai’i. They also call for the removal of military training and promotion from schools since this normalizes violence. Military spending should be reallocated to eliminate all forms of violence: domestic, social and military, to meet human needs. People have been dispossessed of their land through military colonial forces and all forms of human rights violations. The meeting called for recognition of independent countries [which] are still under colonial military domination. “Militarisation in the past has caused the colonisation of countries which are still under domination,” said Roti Make from WILPF Polynesia section. She specified Hawai’i under the USA, Rapanui under Chile, French Polynesia/Te Ao Maohi, Kanaky (New Caledonia), Wallis and Futuna annexed under France, and West Papua under Indonesia. “We call on the United Nations to accept our identity and recognise us as independent nations,” she added. The women also called for an end to joint military exercises. The MERS outbreak sweeping through Saudi Arabia and Egypt has accelerated yet again with 26 new confirmed cases today. Infections have exploded by 73 percent in just one month, reports Reuters. What really has virologists alarmed, however, is the 30% death rate currently being observed. As Reuters reports: Saudi Arabia, where MERS was discovered around two years ago and which remains the country most affected, has now had 339 confirmed cases of MERS, of which 102 have been fatal.Middle East Respiratory SyndromeMERS stands for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and it has no known treatments or cures in the entire world of western medicine.

There are no antibiotics, no vaccines, no medications and no medical interventions practiced by conventional medicine. Straight-sided sans serif FF Good has been busy lately. The recently expanded family now covers an immensely broad and finely graduated spectrum of 14 (!) styles across 7 (!) widths. Multiplying its size, this range is available in two separate optical sizes for normal and headline settings, which makes it the perfect companion for interface, editorial, and web designers. This allows you to pick the style best suited to your layout. Among its weights you’ll find 28 News styles specially drawn for use in newspaper copy, which are available for the exceptional price of $5/€5 per style (FF Good News, FF Good Headline News). This makes for a nice incentive to test several widths before deciding on particular widths or even the whole family. European regulators are several steps ahead of their American counterparts. Over the past several years, they have raised new questions about the safety and ecological dangers of a group of pesticides known as neonicotinoids. These chemicals are suspected of disrupting human brain development and of killing honeybees and other beneficial insects. The European Commission has banned diphenylamine, DPA for short, on fruit raised in the 28 European Union member states and has imposed tight restrictions on imported fruit. DPA, a growth regulator and antioxidant, is applied after harvest to most apples conventionally grown in the U.S. and to some U.S.-grown pears, to prevent the fruit skin from discoloring during months of cold storage. U.S. officials have not followed the Europeans in restricting either neonicotinoids or DPA. While regulators and scientists debate these and other controversies about pesticide safety, EWG will continue to highlight foods that test positive for the most and the least amounts of pesticides List of produce includes apples, strawberries, grapes, celery, peaches, spinach, sweet bell peppers, imported nectarines, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, imported snap peas and potatoes. Each of these foods contained a number of different pesticide residues and showed high concentrations of pesticides relative to other produce items. In particular: * Every sample of imported nectarines and 99 percent of apple samples tested positive for at least one pesticide residue. * The average potato had more pesticides by weight than any other food. * A single grape sample contained 15 pesticides. Single samples of celery, cherry tomatoes, imported snap peas and strawberries showed 13 different pesticides apiece. Unsettled weather will continue across the northern tier of states for the weekend, with the heaviest precipitation in the Pacific Northwest. A major warmup is on tap for portions of the south central U.S., with daytime highs of 90-100F common. Critical fire weather conditions will spread from the southern Rockies into the Southern Plains. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Daniel Cay, 26, of Buffalo, New York, who was convicted of possession of child pornography, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by U.S. District Court Judge Richard J. Arcara. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo, who handled the case, stated that the Buffalo Police Department received information that the defendant possessed child pornography on a computer. Cay was subsequently arrested in January 2013. A forensic examination of the computer revealed over 300 images of child pornography. Some of the images depicted violence against children. The defendant was previously convicted in 2006 for second-degree sexual assault of a minor in Connecticut. The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation on the part of special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Daniel Derenda. In the 1990s, he began making small paintings using bleach on binder’s linen, stretched over board, like found books. The paintings, which he referred to informally as “threats and revenges,” were based on ransom notes, both real and made-up. Using bleach, he removed his own words, one by one, leaving a series of cryptic blank blocks where they once appeared. Thus by suppressing content, he gave each painting its own indecipherable secret. Following these initial experiments, he continued to work with bleach on actual book covers, probing the relationship between image and word to the point of obscurity; abbreviating titles, and sometimes occluding their subjects entirely to create new word plays and allusions. A series of new small-scale bleach on linen paintings display typically cryptic snatches of language--CRYSTAL SKIES, SERVICE CLOWN, SOUR TWIST. Picked out against somber grey, blue, and maroon linen, ghostly letters loom against dark grounds. On closer scrutiny, incidental sprays, spots, and spatters appear, mapping the random gestures and uncontrollable incursions during the working process. Exchanging paint and canvas for bleach and bookcloth, Ruscha continues to mine the relationship between image and word, original and readymade--revealing them to be ever more slippery and mysterious. A catalogue of the recent works, with a cover designed by Ruscha himself, will be published by Karma and Gagosian Gallery. A man who claims he is the best counterfeiter in the world, Frank Bourassa, has been allowed to go free after turning over a huge quantity of fake U.S. $20 bills that authorities say are “not detectable by the naked eye.” Bourassa, a resident of Trois Rivieres outside Montreal, Canada, spent only a month and a half in jail and Canadian authorities agreed earlier this year that they would not extradite him to the United States for prosecution. He walked out of court on March 28 after paying a $1,500 fine in Canadian dollars. “I’m safe, absolutely,” Bourassa said. “They can’t do nothing about that,” he said after freely admitting how he set up a secret printing operation capable of producing $250 million in fake U.S. currency. Bourassa said he spent two years studying the details about currency security on

the website of the U.S. Secret Service to learn how to produce his fake money. Security features added to the $20 in 2003 have not been updated since then, a Secret Service official confirmed. U.S. bills are “the easiest of them all” to counterfeit, Bourassa said, because they are not printed on polymer. “Even third world countries in Africa have polymer bills already,” he said. He revealed how he began his operation by tricking paper mills in Germany and Switzerland to produce the unique paper made of cotton and linen used in the production of American bills. “You have to start with that,” he said, to create the right feel when people handle the fake bills. “It’s got this crisp feel. If you don’t have that you’ll have nothing.” Then, Bourassa said he scoured the internet

to find suppliers in China that could provide ink and security features similar to what is used in the genuine bills. “You know, go big or go home,” boasted Bourassa, who had previously served short stints in prison as a small time drug dealer. Most written histories of British Columbia record that an unknown, ill traveller-whatmodern epidemiolog ists would identify as a “patient zero”--arrived with smallpox in Victoria on March 12, 1862, on a ship from San Francisco called the Brother Jonathan. The British Colonist newspaper reported that the smallpox case was “not considered a dangerous one,” so the disembarking passenger was not detained or quarantined. Yet in fact, Patient Zero would within days ignite one of the most devastating epidemics in Canadian history. Even by conservative estimates, this outbreak killed tens of thousands of indigenous peoples within 15 months and completely reshaped this province’s cultural and political landscape. It is clear that Honiara is in riot mode again. Many flood victims have refused to leave evacuation sites (schools, the national university) making it difficult or impossible for these institutions to operate. Those at Panatina were evicted the day before yesterday and there is the suggestion that some of them are responsible for the present rioting along with settlers at Burns Creek, etc. The KGVI (national high school) area is targeted and there has been stone throwing, shots fired by the police, looting and/or burning of stores and buildings (the national football academy, some say KGVI school also attacked). RAMSI is involved in the response and there are helicopters now involved. Many people are trapped by the fighting. Millions have been provided for relief for flood victims but it seems not to have got to them (it was largely given by the Government to MPs to distribute). It is night in Honiara now and I am sure morning will not be a pretty picture. It was recovered in 1900-01 from the Antikythera wreck, but its complexity and significance were not understood until

dcades later. It is now thought to have been built about 150-100 BC. Technological artifacts of similar complexity did not reappear until the 14th century, when mechanical astronomical clocks appeared in Europe. Ninety percent of the world’s goods are transported by ship, and inevitably hundreds, maybe thousands, of containers fall overboard each year. Lost containers have caused some strange objects from Legos to hockey gloves to wash ashore on beaches around the globe. The Med Taipei container was transporting 1,159 steel-belted car tires. But not all containers hold such innocuous goods. Some carry batteries, pesticides and industrial chemicals that could be toxic to marine life. The Orange County Register reports that the only facility in the county licensed to care for marine mammals is now at capacity, and that other facilities all along the coastline are being similarly inundated. The normally pudgy and active creatures are increasingly turning up emaciated and dehydrated, a mysterious phenomenon that the Sausalito-based Marine Mammal Center (MMC) has monitored across a 600-mile area of coastline that stretches from Mendocino to San Luis Obispo. After washing ashore, many of these sick marine mammals are too week to even get back in the water. In an iconic pairing of a Marxist and member of a premier US capitalist family, Nelson Rockefeller chose Rivera to create a mural - “Man at the Crossroads Looking With Hope and High Vision to the Choosing of a New and Better Future” - for the lobby of Rockefeller Center in 1933. This philanthropist-artist collaboration had a different outcome than in Detroit. Rivera was paid for his work, which showed the indolence and squandering of the rich in contrast to the new social order offered by Lenin. Rockefeller ordered a rendition of Lenin surrounded by appreciative workers removed from the mural, but Rivera refused. Within a few months the mural disappeared and Rivera re-created it at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico. Rivera’s revenge was adding Marx and Engels to the new version of the mural with a drunken John D. Rockefeller carousing with a woman at a nightclub, a dish of syphilis bacteria placed above their heads. The stars align and you have the right piece for the right person at the right time and everything clicks together. You and the client may hit it off and establish a great long-term relationship. At other times you have to work a little harder to make things come together - perhaps searching your inventory, or even creating a new piece for the buyer. If the customer is excited about the process and you can provide great service the client will look at you as someone who has gone above and beyond to help them meet their needs. Then there are those times when everything seems to go wrong despite your best efforts; this may happen even when you have done everything in your power to make your customer happy. We are excited for new adventures in 2014! On December 9, 1981, journalist and activist Mumia Abu-Jamal was arrested and later charged and convicted for murdering Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. The prosecution’s evidence was weak and pointed to the framing of an innocent man In the weeks and days before Mumia’s scheduled date of execution (August 17, 1995), millions of people around the world

took to the streets in protest. Their collective chant “if Mumia dies, fire in the skies” became the anthem of the movement. The protesters mounted pressure, demanding a reappraisal of Mumia’s case, which led to a stay of execution on the very day that he was scheduled to be put to death. After a long, arduous court battle, the Supreme Court decided in October 2011 to allow to stand the decisions of the four federal court judges who had previously declared Mumia’s death sentence unconstitutional. This victory began Mumia’s process of release from death row. After being forced to spend seven weeks in solitary confinement following his transfer from death row, Mumia is now serving a “life without parole” sentence in general population at SCI Mahanoy in

Frackville, Pennsylvania. Today, a new vanguard of activists is demanding Mumia’s full release from prison. allsincerity and humility it is with deep pains i write you this message of wishful assistance to my predicament. I am Raymond Taylor the only son of last wife to the former president of Liberia who was asked by unanimous decision by the international community to step down from the corridors of power . I write you this mail under duress and as a result of my recent decision to better the lives of me. I have made a decision which i know might not be good in the sight of man but the present situation has led me to this decision to better the lives of me.Currently now have decided to make do with the sum of six hundred million us dollars(600.000.000)United States Dollars belonging to my father in which i am a benefiaciary, when he went into exile in Nigeria. In 2006. On 29 March, My father tried to cross the border into Cameroon through the border town of Gamboru in northeastern Nigeria . His Range Rover with Nigerian diplomatic plates was stopped by border guards, and Taylor ‘s identity was eventually established.State Department staff later reported that significant amounts of cash were found in the vehicle. Upon his arrival at Roberts International Airport in Harbel , Liberia , Taylor was arrested and handcuffed by LNP officers, who then immed iately transferred custody of Taylor to the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL). Irish UNMIL soldiers then escorted Taylor aboard a UN helicopter to Freetown, Sierra Leone ,where he was delivered to the SCSL. I have decided to relocate with your assistance to your private account the said sum.My decision was reached when i could not conceive the thought that after the United States Government has promised to let my father go free based on the condition that he should step down Mr.Collin Powell stated in a press briefing that he would be indicted by the court in Netherlands to face charges on war crimes, this is what led to my decision as God Knows that i was never in support of his involvement in the indecent maltreating of innocent people in Politics. This decision is hard for me to make but i just have to make it for the sake of my me future.Currently the said sum was lodged in a safety deposit box in a financial company Institution which i will disclose to you as a matter of commitment to me and this plea for assistance. I currently have the deposit certificate and can draw up a change of beneficiary mandate to ef-

fect you as the beneficiary to the funds. I have this to look forward to so i would like you to keep this project close to your heart just as myself pending when we reach the conclusive end of this project. I will want you as a matter of confidentiality to respond through this mail and also include your telephone number as well so that i can give you a call if the need arises as we are currently on political asylum now in west africa. Once get your confirmation that you can be of assistance i will bring you into a clearer picture of the situation at hand. I look forward to your response with great hope of assistance. I remain Yours Truly, Raymond Taylor Iraq kills 38 prisoners in 2 days. AlQahtani may be next. Stop the imminent execution of Abdullah al-Qahtani. There has been a horrendous, sudden spike in executions in Iraq. Sources indicate that Abdullah al-Qahtani is once again under imminent threat of execution. Your immediate action could spare his life. Abdullah is one of six men who were reportedly tortured into confessing to murder and terrorism. He was initially detained for immigration violations. Abdullah’s attorneys say they have compelling evidence of his innocence. He deserves to have his evidence heard by a court in a fair trial. Last year, after four of his co-defendants were executed, Abdullah could have been executed at any time - but his life was spared. The 60,000 letters sent by Amnesty activists like you likely kept him alive then. We need you to rise to Abdullah’s defense once more. 38 prisoners have been put to death since Sunday. Many of their sentences were based on coerced confessions and grossly unfair trials. 12 of the executions were in secret. The hangings come less than a week after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on Iraqi authorities to put a moratorium on executions. This week, Iraq’s presidency’s office ratified 200 cases of people sentenced to death, paving the way for their immediate execution - and we expect executions will continue. U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Joseph S. Heleniak, 68, of West Seneca, New York, was charged by criminal complaint with receipt of child pornography. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, a maximum penalty of 40 years, and a fine of $250,000 or both. Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango, who is handling the case, stated that the defendant was arrested today, January 24, 2014, following the execution of a search warrant at his residence. According to the criminal complaint, on August 30, 2013, Heleniak sent an e-mail containing three image files of child pornography. The images depicted female children under the age of 16 engaging in sexual activities with adult males. The defendant made an initial appearance this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Hugh B. Scott and is being held pending a detention hearing for Tuesday, January 28, at 10:00 a.m. Garry Kennedy is one of Canada’s best-known and highly acclaimed artists. Police forcefully dispersed separate demonstrations staged by backers of deposed president Mohamed Morsi and by secularists who had helped drive the 2011 revolution against Hosni Mubarak. Breaking up gatherings in Cairo and elsewhere, police wielded tear gas, birdshot, fists and clubs, and in some cases, lethal force. Vigilantes joined in the attacks on protesters. A day after four explosions jolted the capital city, killing six people, many were anxious about going out into the streets, and early crowds were thin in Cairo and elsewhere. But crowds swelled as the day went on, and grew enormous at nightfall. That would be the combined $51.5 billion the top six companies hauled in during a single quarter in 2008. In the third quarter of 2013, thanks to somewhat lower oil prices, the Big Five made a mere $23 billion in profits or $175,000 a minute -- slightly lower, in fact, than the same quarter in 2012. In a similar spirit, the average temperature for 2013 set no records either. It was in the range of 58.12 to 58.3 degrees Fahrenheit (depending on how you do the figuring), indicating that the year will fall somewhere between fourth and seventh hottest since global records began being kept in 1880. In other words, it was just another humdrum year for the oil executives powering the most profitable corporations in history, as they continue to lend a hand to the warming of the only inhabited planet we know of. In the meantime, a recent draft report from the prestigious

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change suggests that we have just 15 years left to rein in fossil fuel carbon emissions -- which could be considered the effluent of energy industry profits -- before a global crisis looms that will be -- virtually impossible to solve with current technologies. Conflict from earliest times has been a characteristic of the human condition. The struggle between our individual selves and our social selves arises from what makes us unique on the one hand, being challenged by our being part of an interdependent structure of relationships on the other. The specific blend of ex per ience s , abilities, attitudes, and aspirations, that helps to define us, can sit sometimes u ncom for tably alongside our commitments to those closest to us, our communities and our cultures. This can lead to conflict at different levels. Conflict within communities and societies is inevitable given that these groups are based on commonality of geography, values, attitudes, and beliefs that help to differentiate one from another. The dialectic engendered by diversity, however, although it may lead to conflict, can play an important role in the expansion of ideas in communities and societies. One major challenge of modern society is to harness the synergy that emerges from the interactive dialectic generated by these differences. From 1979 to 2007, the top 1 percent of families experienced a 278 percent increase in their real after-tax income, while families in the middle 60 percent saw an increase of less than 40 percent. During this period, many blue collar jobs become automated by advances in technology, American workers started competing against cheaper overseas labor, and the number of workers represented by unions dropped from 20 percent in 1983 to 11 percent today. As the earnings of lower and middle income Americans stalled, however, CEOs -- particularly in the financial industry -- saw astronomical economic benefits and, thanks to tax changes in the early 2000s, began paying some of the lowest tax rates in the country’s history. I have used my Good Office to acquire the sum of US$25million as stated herein. The aforementioned Funds was in a deposit Account. There^s an account opened in this bank in 1998 and till 2013 nobody has operated on this account and after going through some old files in the records, I discovered that if I do not remit this huge fund urgently, it would be forfeited for nothing. This fixed deposit was for 14 years and upon maturity, I made effort to contact the client but could not reach him. He perished on the Monday, 31 July, 2000 plane crash in western Germany city of Moenchengladbach. No other person knows about this account or information concerning it. The account has no other beneficiary and my extensive investigation has proven as well that his company does not know

anything about this account and the money here with accrued interests. Thank you and looking forward to a prosperous business relationship between us. Certainly we are already seeing a new kind of money-power: both transnational corporations and billionaires have gained agency since 2008, in a situation where there are almost no remaining barriers to the movement and investment of capital. You can see them going wild all over the planet, especially outside the former core countries. However, dark predictions about the future are by this point, just boring. If nothing changes the future is obviously dark. Daubaylia potomaca, is a roundworm which infects the freshwater snail Helisoma anceps. Unlike other roundworms that use snails as vehicles to reach the next host in their life-cycle, the snail is the only hosts for D. potomaca. But seeing as snails do not live forever, any parasite it harbours would need an exit strategy or risk perishing with their host when the end finally comes. For a parasite like D. potomaca which completes its entire lifecycle in the snail, it would be useful for it to recognise when they should abandon their host. A dying host is not the only reason to leave - finding a new host is integral to most parasites’ life-cycle, but you would not want to leave too early either - the outside world is a hostile place and as a parasite, you would want to get as much out of the host as possible before you make a run for it. Unlike most other parasites that usually infect a new host as larval stages, D. potomaca actually leave their hosts as fully-matured females laden with eggs, all tangled in mucus-coated bundles composed of 10-50 worms. Therefore the female worms would not want to depart too early as it needs to gather as much resources as possible from its host to nurture the developing eggs. So ideally, they leave it to the last possible moment before they emerge from the snail. Tammy Dickinson, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced today that a Kansas City, Missouri man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for receiving and attempting to distribute child pornography over the Internet. Steven H. Taylor, 23, of Kansas City-North, was charged in an eight-count indictment returned under seal by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 29, 2013. The indictment was unsealed and made public today upon Taylor’s arrest and initial court appearance. The federal indictment charges Taylor with five counts of attempting to distribute child pornography over the Internet, two counts of receiving child pornography over the Internet, and one count of possessing child pornography. The indictment also contains a forfeiture allegation, which would require Taylor to forfeit to the government any property used to commit the alleged offenses, including two desktop computers. Dickinson cautioned that the charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Catherine A. Connelly. It was investigated by the FBI and the Nixa, Missouri Police Department. Good Day I must first tender an apology for this unsolicited mail to you. I am conscious that this is certainly not a proper manner of approach to foster a relationship of trust but because of the circumstances and urgency surrounding this venture I decided to reach you via this medium to join me put claims on this fund before it is seized or confiscated by the authorities. I got your contact information through the public records while searching for a similar name to our late client, a Business Magnate that lived in Spain for Nineteen years but died with his family during the TSUNAMI in INDONESIA and BALI that occurred in December 2004. Do not be amazed by this letter, I am contacting you based on Trust and confidentiality attached to this transaction. Before the catastrophe, the sum of $18.4M (EIGHTEEN MILLION, FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND US DOLLARS) was deposited in our bank and as the Auditor General of the Bank, the Board of Directors mandated me to present a member of the family (heir/inheritor) to make claims or the funds will be confiscated and taken to the Bureau as unclaimed. I was given an ultimatum to look for a relative to come for the claim or have the funds liquidated by the Spanish Government and made unserviceable in accordance with existing Spanish law in [ARTICULE 104B]. After preliminary efforts of search for a direct family member which came to no avail, I decided to contact you. My suggestion is that I will like to present you as the beneficiary to this fund, I know you may not be anyway related to my late client but there is a possibility that the fund will be released to you. I guarantee that if you are willing and interested, I will put all in place in accordance with the Law to legally present you as the Next of Kin and true beneficiary. This transaction is 100% risk

free as I have worked all out to complete the operation effectively. Once this fund is released to you, it will be shared in the ratio of 40% for you, and 60% for me as our benefit which is ($7.4 Million for you) and ($11.04 Million for me). Kindly indicate your interest by mail to: smith196k@gmail.com for more information. Please endeavour to get back to me whether you are willing to collaborate with me or not so that I can further my search for another partner. I wait for your prompt response. The northern route has much better infrastructure compared to the southern route and is therefore the recommended route. The southern route is also called the Jade Road. It was from this road that the famous Hotan Jade was imported into China. Two crossdesert Highways bisect the Taklimakan connecting the northern and southern rim of the desert; they can be used for those who want to get a taste of both routes. (More likely you’ve had enough of the dirt tracks of the Southern Route and just wanted to get back to civilization.) Gary Miner, age 45, of Glens Falls, New York, pled guilty today in Albany before United States District Court Judge Mae A. D’Agostino to one count of receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography, announced United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and Andrew W. Vale, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Albany Division. On the child pornography receipt count, Miner faces at least five years of imprisonment and up to a maximum sentence of 20 years of imprisonment. On the child pornography possession count, Miner faces a maximum sentence of 10 years of imprisonment. Miner was detained pending his sentencing. During the plea hearing, Miner admitted that between January 2010 and November 29, 2011, he accessed the Internet and downloaded and possessed, from a website and other individuals who were distributing child pornography, approximately 600 files that contained child pornography. Sentencing is scheduled for June 9, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in Albany, New York. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rick Belliss. The earthen monoliths contain contaminated material from the more than 250 abandoned uranium mines that once provided the raw materials for the US nuclear complex. As the Cold War ended, so did the demand for uranium. Yet growing international investment in nuclear energy has led to the prospect of renewed uranium mining in New Mexico, including the controversial new Roca Honda mine located on Mount Taylor, an area considered sacred by the Navajo and Pueblo peoples of the sout hwe ster n United States. “If developed, Roca Honda will be a huge underground mine with tremendous impacts,” said env i ron ment a l attorney Eric Jantz. “This mine could destroy people’s water, land, their places of worship - all for the purposes of funnelling profits to a Canadian company that is in turn selling it to Korea.” “In Vancouver, there were people chanting about the Olympics and indigenous rights. In Atlanta, the ACLU was up in arms about the jailing of thousands of young Black men in advance of the 1996 Games. In Greece back in 2004, there were armies of the ungrateful yammering about the exploding price tag and the deaths of Olympic workers. In Beijing, we heard carping about “human rights” and the crushing of dis-

In England, there were nattering nabobs of negativism dulling the Olympic shine by asking why fears of terror attacks were being used to harass activists, not to mention their whining about the extensive use of surveillance drones and cell phone monitoring. At every Olympics, you can cue the complaints, getting in the way when all we’re trying to do is enjoy a good luge. How do ephemeral practices -- from medieval and early modern rituals to c onte mp o rary site-specific and performance-based events -- intersect with the history of art and exhibitions? How should art history negotiate methodologies and strategies of documentation and preservation, when the delicate nature of materials sometimes results in the transformation, deterioration, or even disappea rance of the work? When objects are irretrievably lost, is it possible to access them through documents that attempt to instigate a sense of permanence that was denied at the time? And how have museums and other exhibition spaces attempted to collect, display and preserve ephemeral objects? In the wake of recent technological developments, how do the dialectics of permanence and impermanence related to momentary flickers of celluloid or transitory pixels on a screen differ from those of bygone times? How do (media) technologies invoke notions of ephemerality and c o nt e mp o r a ne i t y across different historical times? The scientists who conducted the study that this paper is based on wanted to find out what happens to the the cricket population and their hairworm parasites after their home forest has been cut down. They conducted an observational field study at an experimental forest in the upper parts of the Totsu River at Nara Prefecture, Japan. The forest was originally clear-

cut in 1912 and 1916 and since then, parts of it have been replanted and cut down at different point in time over the last century. Each study site corresponds with a different replanted forests of Japanese cypress ranging from 3 to 48 years old. These scientists found that the camel crickets began returning a few years after a forest has been replanted, their abundance steadily increasing and eventually reaching a peak after the forest has been standing for at least 30 years. But their hairworm parasites did not return with similar gusto. In fact, they estimated that only second-growth forests that are more than 50 years old have hairworm populations that are as abundance as those found at undisturbed sites. One possible reason for the hairworms’ slow recovery is their complex life cycle which requires infection of more than one host. The replanted forest might be lacking some of the other host G. chinensis needs to complete its life cycle. Because parasites has such a negative public image, a forest which is free of parasites (or at least a specific parasite) might sound good to most people. But these hairworms actually play a very vital role in the ecosystem. By causing their cricket host to jump into a stream, they actually serve as a kind of fast food delivery service for the fish living in those streams. A cricket infected with a hair worm is 20 times more likely to stumble into a stream and become fish food than an uninfected cricket - so fish which would not usually get to feed on such large land-loving insects on a regular basis can now do so thanks to the hairworm, and it has calculated that this straight-to-yourstream food delivery service accounts for 60% of the trout population’s energy intake in some watersheds. Portland homeless live in fear of frequent weekly sweeps by police. A group of fired-up activists in Portland, Ore., who were tired of seeing homeless people being mistreated staged the kind of protest that will be difficult for the mayor to ignore. An estimated 4,000 people sleep on the streets of Portland, Ore., on any given night and, since last summer, life has become increasingly difficult for them. So, a group of protesters descended upon Portland City Hall on Tuesday night carrying pitchforks and torches to “shame the mayor into action,” organizer Jessie Sponberg told The Oregonian. Portland appears to be gearing up to revive a bill that would allow police to rouse homeless people sitting on sidewalks, The Or-

egonian reported at the end of last year. In July, Mayor Charlie Hales launched an effort to clear out homeless campsites, according to the Portland Mercury. “Our chickens are raised out in the pastures. They are truly free-range birds. We do not use chicken tractors like the majority of farms that raise pastured poultry. As with all of our animals we do not use any antibiotics or added hormones in their feed. They live out in the pastures free to do what chickens do (eat, scratch, dust bath, forage for bugs, etc. They are fed a mix of organic soy meal along with locally grown wheat and a small amount of vitamins and minerals for proper growth. Our chicken feed is GMO free.” The Charlie’s order is very close to meeting the minimum needed to place the order so here is what we need in order for us all to get our produce fix. 1. An extra case or two (depending on the size) need to get filled. We are pretty close to filling the bananas and the leeks if anyone is interested. Of course adding to cases that will already be filled is ok as well since we may meet the minimums to order additional cases. For example, folks are loving the cabbage and we order those in 2 packs. Not to be confused with Tupac... 2. We still need another sorter. It needs to be someone who has done it before as you would be the early arriver/quality checker. Please either sign up on the spreadsheet or email me/the group/pm me/etc. Carlos Cortinas, 40, and Mark Anthony Stokes, 36, of Three Rivers, have received significant sentences following their convictions of sexual exploitation of a child, commonly known as production of child pornography, announced United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson. Both men pleaded guilty Monday, October 21, 2013. Senior U.S. District Judge John D. Rainey, who accepted the guilty pleas, sentenced Cortinas and Stokes to respective sentences of 212 and 140 months in federal prison. At the hearing, the court considered Stokes cooperation with the government and the fact that Cortinas had victimized two children but recognized both men had committed the same crime in essentially the same manner. In handing down the sentence, Judge Rainey considered the need to protect the public and deter future criminal conduct. They will both serve 10 years of supervised release following completion of their prison terms and will also be ordered to register as sex offenders. The investigation began on May 13, 2013, after police responded to a domestic violence call in Three Rivers. Stokes, who had been stabbed and cut by his wife, told officers that his wife had injured him after she discovered nude photos of minor female relative on a flash drive. Stokes admitted to a sexual interest in children for the past 20 years. Several years prior to this incident, Stokes and Cortinas had a conversation in which both discussed their mutual sexual interest in children. Stokes told Cortinas he had nude images of the young female, which Cortinas asked to see. Stokes then sent some of the images of the child via text message from his cell phone. Within an hour, Cortinas then sent nude images of one of his minor female relatives as well. From that day forward, Stokes and Cortinas would send each other voyeur type images of these minor children taken without the their knowledge, as well as other child pornography images downloaded from the Internet. Cortinas also sent nude images of another child that he had taken. State search warrants were executed on both residences, which resulted in the discovery of evidence related to

the child pornography production described by Stokes. Both men will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future. Malcolm X, otherwise known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, was a fierce African American human rights crusader with an international agenda. Progressive people commemorating his assassination this week reflect on his legacy to the Black struggle and to all people around the world who are oppressed by imperialism and capitalism. A Louisville, Kentucky man was sentenced to 22 years today by Senior United States District Judge Thomas B. Russell for violating federal child pornography laws, namely, the production of child pornography, announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky. Jamar Garrett, a/k/a Darnell Hamilton, age 35, admitted in court that during June through July 2012, he represented himself as Darnell Hamilton and lived in Jefferson County, Kentucky. During that time period, he rented a room in a home (where a 9-year-old female child also lived). On July 1, 2012, Garrett engaged in sexually explicit conduct with the 9-year-old female child. He used his cellular telephone to record the sexual activity in the form of a video. Approximately one week later, an adult living in the home viewed the contents of the cell phone, confronted the child, and called the police to report the matter. According to court records, Garrett fled the jurisdiction. However, Louisville Metro Police obtained a federal arrest warrant for Garrett, which was recorded in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Law enforcement officials arrested Garrett on the outstanding warrant when he was stopped for a traffic violation in Toledo, Ohio. Under the terms of the plea agreement, which called for a 22 -year term of imprisonment, followed by a life term of supervised release, Garrett also pleaded guilty in Jefferson Circuit Court to sexually abusing a 6year-old child. The Jefferson Circuit Court case involved a different victim than the federal case. The state court sentence will run concurrently with the federal sentence. Janis called “groupthink,” the chameleon-like ability of people to adopt the views of their superiors and peers. This syndrome is endemic to Washington: The town is characterized by sudden fads, be it negotiating biennial budgeting, making grand bargains or invading countries. Then, after a while, all the town-s cool kids drop those ideas as if they were radioactive. As in the military, everybody has to get on board with the mission, and questioning it is not a careerenhancing move. The universe of people who will critically examine the goingson at the institutions they work for is always going to be a small one. As Upton Sinclair said, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.” This is a call for the inclusion of public art collections in the Public Art Archive, an online database of public art. It is home to a small village, Layton (population about 200), and Long Key State Park which is a popular camping destination. During the early days of Henry Flagler’s construction of the Key West extension of the Florida East Coast Railway, Long Key became the location of lodging for many of the railroad workers and also had a railroad station. Long Key might have remained largely unknown except for its fishing camp known as the Long Key Fishing Club. The most prominent member of this club was novelist Zane Grey, famous for his 1912 novel “Riders Of The Purple Sage”. Henry Flagler had built the fishing camp in 1908 to serve tourists arriving by train in the Florida Keys. Other members of the fishing club included Herbert Hoover, Andrew Mellon, Franklin Roosevelt , William Randolph Hearst and many other famous people. An intriguing new computer simulation shows that 78,000 large wind turbines spread across 35,000 square kilometers of ocean outside of New Orleans would have cut Hurricane Katrina’s category 3 winds at landfall by 129 to 158 kilometers per hour (80 to 98 miles per hour) and reduced the storm surge by 79 percent. The same collection of turbines offshore of New York City would have dropped Hurricane Sandy’s winds by 125 to 140 kph and the surge by up to 34 percent. I am converting my 1996 Potter 15 to a hinged mast step and have run

itoaproblem. The bolt that runs from the stationary mast step to the compression post (inside the cabin) just wants to spin when being removed because of the lock nut on the bolt. Since this is a blind nut that you can’t get a wrench on, is there any secret to remove this bolt. It looks to me like one alternative would be to carefully cut off the head of the bolt with a hacksaw and letting the remaining part bolt and nut just fall into the compression post. After cutting off the head of the bolt I would tap the compression post bolt hole for a 5/16 bolt. Any thoughts on my dilemma would be appreciated. In a room at a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) facility, thick binders-most filled with more than a thousand pages of paper-are stacked in boxes on and under tables and piled from floor to ceiling. Each binder represents a murder victim. The FBI is helping to turn these paper-only books into a digital homicide library that will benefit investigators as well as the families of victims. Insomnia, or sleeplessness, is a sleep disorder in which there is an inability to fall asleep or to stay asleep as long as desired. While the term is sometimes used to describe a disorder demonstrated by polysomnographic evidence of disturbed sleep, this sleep disorder is often practically defined as a positive response to either of two questions: “Do you experience difficulty sleeping?” or “Do you have difficulty falling or staying asleep?” Insomnia is most often thought of as both a medical sign and a symptom that can accompany several sleep, medical, and psychiatric disorders characterized by a persistent difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep or sleep of poor quality. Insomnia is typically followed by functional impairment while awake. Insomnia can occur at any age, but it is particularly common in the elderly. Insomnia can be short term (up to three weeks) or long term (above 3-4 weeks), which can lead to memory problems, depression, irritability and an increased risk of heart disease and automobile related accidents. Those who are having trouble sleeping sometimes turn to sleeping pills, which can help when used occasionally but may lead to substance dependence or addiction if used regularly for an extended period. Insomnia can be grouped into primary and secondary, or comorbid, insomnia. Primary insomnia is a sleep disorder not attributable to a medical, psychiatric, or environmental cause. It is described as a complaint of pro-

longed sleep onset latency, disturbance of sleep maintenance, or the experience of non-refreshing sleep. A complete diagnosis will differentiate between freestanding primary insomnia, insomnia as secondary to another condition, and primary insomnia co-morbid with one or more conditions. The DSM-5 criteria for insomnia include the following: Predominant complaint of dissatisfaction with sleep quantity or quality, associated with one (or more) of the following symptoms: Difficulty initiating sleep. (In children, this may manifest as difficulty initiating sleep without caregiver intervention.) Difficulty maintaining sleep, characterized by frequent awakenings or problems returning to sleep after awakenings. (In children, this may manifest as difficulty returning to sleep without caregiver intervention.) Early-morning awakening with inability to return to sleep. Culture in Rodrigues is an ode to the beauty of encounters. It keeps recalling the influences that marked the adventure of human settlement on the island. The traditional music results from the juxtaposition of musical forms into a medley of African and European influences, resting on two pillars. The first of its two pillars is the sega tambour, a blend of African and Malagasy influences which also acts as a space for social regulation. The high notes of the marchal expose the failings of a neighbour or his wife, the misfortunes of a rival in love or in business, taken up by rolling drums, bass drumsticks and the bobre (a metal string strained over a wooden elbow and attached to a hollow pumpkin) playing in unison. The other pillar, the accordion, plays European traditional folk music mazurka (mazok kar or krawz), Scottish (kotis), waltz (Laval) and forgotten lyrics are sometimes reinvented to cope with the failures of oral tradition in ensuring their transmission. One fine day, the sega and the accordion united to the delight of dancers and musicians. Bands of young musicians also offer a wide range of contemporary musical styles hip hop, ragga, reggae, RnB, etc. Now and then, these styles mix with the rhythms of the accordion, combining tradition with current trends. The accordion is very popular at traditional balls taking up the tradition of ranne zaricot that are held on Sunday afternoons. The person who finds the bean in his slice of cake, or is crowned king or queen of the ball, must return the favour at the next ball. Hi my dear friend, How are you?
