Gowanda middle school principal Chamber names interviews expected next week Spirit of Gowanda By Rich Place

GOWANDA — The Gowanda School Board of Education is expected by the end of the month to meet with potential candidates for the recently created middle school principal position.

That’s according to a tentative timeline discussed by the board at its March 1 meeting. Gowanda Superintendent Jim Klubek and school board president Lynn Guzzetta were expected to sift through resumes for the middle school position earlier this week in anticipation of interviews being

conducted the week of March 13. Klubek said the three committees which will interview the remaining candidates are comprised of parents, teachers and support staff, and administration. The board is expected to convene at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, See Principal, Page 20

LITTLE VALLEY — Robert Buchhardt always wanted to be a police officer. Now after a lengthy career — including more than 20 years as head of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office road patrol and the past 1 months as undersheriff — he will retire later this month. he sheriff’s office has been his second family for 37 years. He aims to spend more time with his wife, Jodie, and their children and grandchildren. award winners GOWANDA — The Gowanda Area Chamber of Commerce has announced this year’s Spirit of Gowanda winners. An awards gala — including an hors d'oeuvres reception in their honor — will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Gowanda Historic Hollywood Theater. The Business Award will be presented to Valley Pharmacy and Medical Supplies. Ann Martindale is this year’s honoree for the Community Service Award. Also, the Excellence in Youth Award — given by the chamber to a deserving senior at Gowanda Central School — will go to Jack Van Wey. Biographies and photos of the honorees will be published in a future edition of The Gowanda Press.
