GOWANDA — High-speed internet service is coming to Gowanda, Councilman John Walgus said at the May 11 Persia town board meeting. DFT Communications, together with Southern Tier West Regional Planning and Development Board, has partnered with the town of Persia through a Broadband Improvement Grant to provide free wireless internet to downtown Gowanda. Nine access points have been identified for placement of the wireless transmitters, Walgus said, and eight property owners gave permission to DFT to install them. Walgus said the grant provides free wireless access to broadband internet for children who lack access in their homes. The grant, through the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), applies only to that portion of the village within the town of Persia.
