Bike Rodeo scheduled for July 22

GOWANDA — It’s almost time for another Bike Rodeo in the village. The Healthy Community Alliance, in partnership with the Village of Gowanda, Gowanda Gowanda Central School District, the Gowanda Police Department and with funding provided by the New York State Department of Transportation, are preparing for the 2017 Bike Rodeo, which will be held on from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 22 at Gateway Park. This event is for children ages 5 to 13.

Attendees of the free event will be able to go through various stations of demonstrations, activities and speakers. There will be an area where cyclists can have their bicycle inspected for things like proper seat height, tire pressure and a properly fitted helmet, as well as an obstacle course where riders can encounter various scenarios that may appear while riding through town. Also, bike owners will be able to register their bikes so that if it is ever stolen, it will be easily identified and recovered. Partici-

pants will receive a T-shirt, and will have the chance to win various prizes. The Bike Rodeo is part of Gowanda on the Move, a Safe Routes to School initiative. Safe Routes to School activities provide much needed physical activity for children while supporting data shows children with more physically active lifestyles tend to have better attendance, perform better academically, and have fewer discipline issues. For more information, call the Healthy Community Alliance at 532-1010.
