everything but ordinary!
Welcome to Our Towns! We are pleased to introduce our new publication we so fondly call Welcome to Our Towns! Our goal is to showcase Kane, St. Marys, Ridgway, Johnsonburg, Emporium. We look forward to finding everything that makes these towns so amazing and special and sharing it with you. Welcome To Our Towns will be talking events, community news, local businesses, weather and because everyone has a voice we will be taking to the streets asking locals to open up and express their opinion on
what makes "their town" so great. We hope you have a good time reading what your neighbors have to say and also enjoy some of the great local stories inside. Welcome To Our Towns will be published monthly so keep an eye out for next month's edition. If you see either of us, Jennifer Mong or Tarah Lipps on the streets of your town, stop and say hello! Make sure to visit all these great local businesses inside and thank you for sharing your town with us! ~ Tarah & Jenn

Natural Attractions And Things To Do In The St. Marys Area Austin Dam, Austin
Built in 1909 to supply water to a nearby paper mill, the dam was the largest concrete dam in Pennsylvania holding 800 million gallons of water. The dam catastrophically failed in 1911, killing at least 90 people and causing $14 million in damages. See the remains of the structure dramatically shifted by the floodwaters. Failure of this dam led to present-day federal and state regulations.
Biking and Hiking
Available at Clarion River Rails to Trails, miles of biking and walking.

Visit McClain's Lazy River Rentals and enjoy a trip on the area's scenic waterways.

The 6-mile lake is stocked with trout, bass, walleye and perch for fishing. This dam is operated by the Army Corp of Engineers as flood control for the Pittsburgh area, and ultimately, the Mississippi River.
Elk Herd Watch
Over 700 elk roam over an area of about 225 square miles in the Winslow Hill area. They are descendents of elk re-introduced into the area from Yellowstone National Park around the turn of the century. A mature bull weighs between 700-1,000 pounds and stands 55 inches high at the shoulder. The best time to see them is early morning or late afternoon close to dark.

Until July 2003 when damaging storms came through the area, the Kinzua Bridge was one of the highest operating railroad trestles in the country at 301 feet high. Rides were given on a steam excursion train from Kane to Marienville across the trestle.
Kinzua Dam
Continue your travel to the scenic drive between Kane and Warren along Route 321 and through the Red Bridge area to view the huge Allegheny Reservoir, which stretches into New York. In addition to outdoor recreation, these are just some of the ideas of things to see and do in the Kane Area. Whether you are alone or with friends and family there is sure to be an activity that piques your interest. Kane Depot is a beautifully restored late 1800’s train station. It is home to local Kane and railroad memorabilia. Art Works at the Depot is also located here. More than twenty local artists represent media ranging from oil paints, water, pencil, photography, jewelry, fine wood products (carved locally), to sculptures. The depot is open late spring through Christmas. General Thomas L. Kane Memorial Chapel - The chapel houses historical artifacts of General Kane, who was appointed by his good friend President Grant to lead the Bucktail Regiment in the Civil War, and items used by former Presidents of the United States and other Statesmen. Genealogy records are often looked up at the church through the Brigham Young University.
Kane Manor Country Inn – One of the original homes of the Kane family is under restoration and located on a 10 scenic acres with trails to the forest. Currently serves as a Bed and Breakfast. Texas Hot Lunch - The Texas Hot Lunch is a four generation restaurant and Kane landmark since 1919. This restaurant is noted for their famous “Texas Hots” or hotdogs with sauce. When former residents of Kane come back to visit, they can usually be found visiting at the Texas Hot Lunch. The original building was located on Fraley Street and rolled on logs to the current location on Field Street.
