BETH HUMAN is an English, Social Studies and Latin teacher at Thomas Jefferson School, and well as Assistant Director of College Counseling. She received her Ph.D. and M.A. in English from Saint Louis University, and a B.A. in English and History from Willamette University. Her scholarly research focused on ghosts in Early Modern historiography, as well as the mythological past as a tool for nation building. Beth began tutoring students for college entrance exams in 1997, and has continued ever since, both individually, in school settings, and through test prep companies. HEIDI PIERONI is a Math and Science teacher at Thomas Jefferson School. She studied art history as an undergraduate and healthcare ethics in her graduate work, focusing on body image and eating disorders. As a native St. Louisan who attended and works in private schools, she is knowledgeable about secondary private schools in the area and the application process. MATTHEW TROUTMAN is the Associate Director of Academics at Thomas Jefferson School. He currently teaches math and science, from 7th grade to 12th grade (including AP courses). He received a Ph.D. and M.S. in Physics from Clemson University, an M.Ed. from Teachers College at Columbia University (expected 5/17), and a B.S. from Roanoke College. His previous research included studying planet formation, and he has worked at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He is passionate about exploring how students best learn through research-based teaching practices in order to create the best educative environment for students. Education: B.S. Roanoke College M.S.
