EXP ONBOARDING The Process

The onboarding process typically takes 7-10 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) but can vary longer or shorter depending on eXp State Broker vetting time-frames, whether revised paperwork is requested or needed, and how long it takes to transfer your license to eXp for your state.


STEP 1: You submit your application to eXp Realty. STEP 2: Application and license are verified by Agent Services (typically within 1-2 business days after you submit your application, but it may take longer depending on workload). After the license is verified, Agent Services will then send the file to the eXp State Broker. STEP 3: If accepted, the State Broker alerts Agent Services to send out an ICA (Independent Contractor Agreement) to the e-email address you listed on your application. This typically occurs 1-2 business days after you are vetted by the eXp State Broker.


STEP 4: Agent Services sends you the ICA by e-mail to view and sign electronically. Depending on your situation, we may have additional paperwork for you to sign (Example: A new agent might need a mentor agreement). Please check your spam/junk mail folders regularly, important e-mails from us can end up there! STEP 5: After you sign the ICA and joining documents, they are sent back to eXp Realty for document review to make sure your onboarding paperwork is complete. This process can take 1-2 business days. If no revisions to the documents are needed, eXp Realty sends your file back to the eXp State Broker to initiate the license transfer process.


LICENSE TRANSFER STEP 6: Once you receive your completed ICA, you must initiate the transfer of your license to eXp Realty of California, Inc.

Go to the DRE web site at www.bre.ca.gov. Go to e-licensing. Sign in with your User Name and Password. Click on “Change Your Employer”. Answer, “Yes” to “Would you like to change your employing broker or corporation.” Enter the license number for eXp of California, Inc which is # 01878277 You will be asked if your broker is available to confirm your license, choose “NO”. The State Broker’s e-mail address is centralca@exprealty.com.


ALMOST THERE! After your license has been transferred to eXp the agent onboarding department will send you an e-mail with instructions on setting up various accounts. STEP 7: This last step is very important! After your license is transferred by the eXp State Broker in the eXp back-office, it triggers an automated e-mail for you to setup Passport, which will provide “single sign-on” functionality for you to access your suite of agent tools, including your back-office at eXp. You will also need to setup a “forwarding email” for all company communication going forward.


IMPORTANT! Agent Services cannot move forward with switching your account to an active state until you have setup your forwarding email! Please make sure you perform this step to avoid delaying setup of your account! If you have issues with setting up or eXp Passport or forwarding e-mail, or never received the e-mail, please reach out to the Tech Outpost (not Agent Services) by e-mail: support@exprealty.com, or you can also visit the Tech Outpost on the eXp World virtual campus for faster service.


ACTIVE STEP 8: Success! After you’ve setup your forwarding e-mail, it allows us to finish your onboarding profile in the back-office, usually within 1-2 business days. Once that is complete and you are moved to an active state, our system will send you an automated welcome e-mail and you are ready to go!
