Nisswa makes changes to parking for Freedom Days Parade Lundrigan’s to the post office; and in front of Pioneer Village. Parking spaces on the east side of Main Street will remain open. Parking on the west side of the Nisswa American Legion, going north, will also be closed to allow for parade participant lineup. People are encouraged to park along city streets, the parking lots at the Nisswa Community Center, Nisswa Elementary School, St. Christopher’s Catholic Church and Journey Church. Hazelwood Drive is also accessible, and you can walk through the tunnel. “We have a great parade on July 3. Safety for our visitors and our parade participants is a priority,” said Shawn Hansen, president/CEO of the Nisswa
Chamber. “We are working with the Nisswa Police Department to make some changes to the event so we can utilize our downtown Main Street for the parade route, yet maintain the highest level of safety in our community.” Many communities close off parking along their parade routes, Hansen said, reiterating that parking will remain open on the east side of Main Street. Signs will be posted and violators will be towed. The Nisswa Chamber and Nisswa Police Department thank everyone for their cooperation relating to this change in parking. People should adhere to the areas designated no parking, from 11 p.m. July 2 to 9 p.m. July 3.

A nyone who wants to be in the parade should arrive at Oak Spur at 10:30 a.m. to line up. Free root beer floats will be served in the park after the parade. Gary Stacken will provide country, classic country and gospel music from 11 a.m.2 p.m. Brett Roach will sell hot dogs, chips and
pop as a fundraiser for the skateboard park. To volunteer to help with the road parade, serving root beer floats or clean up, email Anna Anderson at annabell0521@yahoo.com. The annual Horseshoe Lake Boat Parade will be at noon Saturday, July 4. Participants should decorate their boats and meet on the West Basin side of the channel in time for the noon start. If the weather is threatening, parade time will move to 3 p.m. Commodore will be Ceabern Squires who has had a place on the lake for about 50 years. The commodore’s boat will be marked with the Horseshoe Lake flag and will lead participants counter clockwise around the West Basin and then into the East Basin.
