When Sgt. Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins, “Straight Outta Compton,” 2015) is targeted by terrorists, he enlists the help of former CTU director Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto, “Homeland”) to thwart their nefarious plans in “24: Legacy,” premiering Sunday, Feb. 5, on Fox. This reboot of the action series takes place in real time as Carter races to stop a terrorist attack, and original “24” castmember Carlos Bernard (“Scoundrels”) reprises the role of Tony.

Corey Hawkins stars in “24: Legacy”The Super Bowl may be the most exciting event of the year for football fans, but they aren’t the only ones with something to celebrate. One of the most exciting television series in history is about to reboot, and millions of TV viewers eagerly await the premiere. Following the big game, “24” fans get their first taste of a brand new edition of the iconic action series that aired from 2001 to 2010, and was revived briefly in 2014.
However, the legendary Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland, “Designated Survivor”) is not the star of the new edition. Corey Hawkins takes over as the lead in “24: Legacy,” which premieres Sunday, Feb. 5, and continues Monday, Feb. 6, on Fox. The series again features a real-time format as Sgt. Eric Carter (Hawkins) battles terrorists, but, with 12 episodes instead of 24, there are time jumps incorporated into the season.
TV viewers may recognize the Juilliard-trained Hawkins as Heath from AMC’s ratings winner “The Walking Dead.” However, it was the actor’s role as Dr. Dre in the 2015 biopic “Straight Outta Compton” that attracted the attention of “24: Legacy” casting director Lisa Miller Katz. Considering the popularity of the original “24,” and of Jack Bauer in particular, Hawkins has big shoes to fill. His character, Carter, is a U.S. Army Ranger who led a successful mission to take out terrorist leader Sheik Ibrahim Bin-Khalid. Six months later, it appears that Khalid’s followers have tracked down Carter and his fellow Rangers, prompting him to go into hiding and enlist the help of Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto, “Homeland”), former national director of CTU.
Ingram seems to be the Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub, “Mr. Show”) to Carter’s Jack: a person with skills and resources who can help him from the inside. Ingram stepped down as director of CTU to support her husband, Sen. John Donovan (Jimmy Smits, “NYPD Blue”), during his bid for president
of the United States, but she returns to CTU because she has faith in Carter’s ability to thwart a looming terrorist attack on U.S. soil.
“Carter was the youngest squad leader in the history of the Rangers,” she explains in the show’s trailer. “He doesn’t fail, because the battle isn’t over until he wins.”
Hawkins, Otto and Smits make a formidable core cast, but fans of the original”24” are undoubtedly most excited to see a familiar face: Tony Almeida, played by Carlos Bernard (“Scoundrels”).
“Carlos Bernard has done an amazing job portraying this dark and conflicted character, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with his return to the show,” said executive producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto, in a joint statement.
One of the show’s original characters, Almeida appeared in seasons 1 through 5, as well as 7 and 9. His character proved so popular, he was featured in “24: Solitary,” a short film about his time in prison that was included in the DVD/ Blu-ray for 2014’s “24: Live Another Day.” Once a top CTU analyst, Almeida went rogue after his beloved wife, Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth, “Hawaii Five-0”), was murdered.
It remains to be seen whether Almeida will be the reboot’s big bad, or if the events will offer him
the chance to redeem himself. Regardless, his return is highly anticipated all around, but don’t expect to see him right away. He shows up later in the season, so fans will have to stay tuned.
Tony may be the only original cast member returning, but there is another link to the original. Newcomer Coral Peña portrays CTU computer analyst Mariana Stiles, cousin of the late, great Edgar Stiles (Louis Lombardi, “The Sopranos”). Other cast members of note include Anna Diop (“The Messengers”) as Carter’s wife, Nicole; Ashley Thomas (“The Night Of”) as Carter’s brother, Isaac; Dan Bucatinsky (“Scandal”) as CTU communications analyst Andy Shalowitz; Charlie Hofheimer (“Mad Men”) as former soldier Ben Grimes; and Raphael Acloque (“The Danish Girl,” 2015) as Jadalla bin-Khalid.
Hopefully, fans of the original will be satisfied with Tony’s return and role in the new series, but Bauer fanatics can take even more comfort in the fact that Sutherland is still leading the show, this time in the role of executive producer. And, although Sutherland initially rejected the idea of appearing in the new series, he’s waffled in his resolve, giving Bauer fans hope.
“I’ve learned enough over the last few years to not say never,” admitted the actor during an interview on “Live With Kelly and Michael” in February of last year.

o matter whether they’re big or small, Chef Gordon Ramsay will judge them all. OK, so maybe that’s not the best children’s nursery rhyme, but anyone who keeps up with the eccentric British culinary icon knows that it’s not far off the mark.
His co-judge, Christina Tosi, first joined him on screen in 2015, but Ramsay’s been judging the enormously popular “MasterChef” cooking competition on
Fox since 2010. Disc jockey Shaun O’Neale of Las Vegas won last year’s season 7, holding up well under the constant scrutiny of the pair, and now it’s time for a host of new home cooks — significantly shorter ones — to impress the decorated and awardwinning chefs. “MasterChef Junior,” the pint-sized culinary spinoff, fires up the ovens of its fifth season Thursday, Feb. 9, on Fox.
The best chefs between the ages of 8 and 13 that could be found across the country all come together for a brutal cooking competition, and there are 40 of them in all — the most of any season of “MasterChef Junior” to date. Under the watchful eyes of the “MasterChef” kitchen’s resident grown-ups, the kids compete in a series of culinary challenges that most adult home cooks would struggle with.
These challenges are often once-in-a-lifetime events for the pint-sized home cooks. Whether they’re cooking up a full meal for dozens of first responders, making a vegan dish for “The Big Bang Theory’s” Mayim Bialik or serving one of the best-known “chefs” in the world — “The Muppets’” own Swedish Chef — the amount of talent that these kids put on display is a wonder to
behold, even for people with years more experience in a kitchen.
Ultimately, one of the kids will rise to the top and be chosen as the winner. The reward is enough to set them up for years to come: a whopping $100,000 prize, not to mention the recognition that being a culinary prodigy brings.
Fox’s slightly smaller version of its flagship cooking competition gets underway Thursday, Feb. 9.

CNN is reporting that the Russians have disgusting and damaging information about Donald Trump. Apparently, the Russian report on Trump contains “everything we already know.”
Republican Sen. Rand Paul said that this week he will introduce a GOP replacement plan for Obamacare. The new comprehensive health
initiative will be called “Don’t Get Sick.”
In Florida, a group of homes had to be evacuated due to a sinkhole. However, as usual, officials are having trouble telling where the sinkhole ends and Florida begins.
This week, the Los Angeles Rams hired 30-year-old Sean McVay to be their head coach, making him the youngest
coach in modern NFL history. You can tell he’s young because, instead of throwing the challenge flag, he just texts the ref a frowny emoji.
Trump immediately denied the report, tweeting: “Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to leak into the public. One last shot at me. Are we living in Nazi Germany?” So true — we all remember
how unfair Nazi Germany was to their charismatic leader. Those people were always going “Talk to the hand!”
In a tense exchange yesterday, a U.S. Navy destroyer fired warning shots at fastapproaching Iranian naval ships. So, of course, our president-elect tweeted about how overrated Meryl Streep is.
