Crosslake:

Celebrate America fireworks show is July 1 2017 marks the 47th year Crosslake has been celebrating America’s freedom with a fireworks display. The Celebrate America-Crosslake fireworks show will be at dusk (around 10 p.m.) Saturday, July 1. Fireworks will be launched from barges anchored near Sand Island on the south end of the lake. View the fireworks from the water and shores of Cross Lake. Views are best from a boat, but for people on the shore, the County

Road 16 bridge on the northwest side of Crosslake near The Wharf offers parking on the shoulders. Viewers can also see the fireworks from the beach at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Crosslake Recreation Areas (the campground). The recreation area entrance is at the intersection of County Road 3 and Route 66, but offers very limited parking. Park at Andy’s corner or at nearby businesses along Route 66 and

walk into the northwest picnic area. Bring blankets or chairs to sit on, and be respectful of the campers while walking through. The community asks visitors and residents to contribute to the cause by putting extra change in specially marked donation cans at Crosslake merchants. Tax-deductible contributions can be mailed to: Fireworks - The PAL Foundation 14126 Daggett Pine Road Crosslake, MN 56442

Firecracker Run to be held July 2 The eighth annual Nisswa Firecracker Run - featuring a post-event crawfish boil, free Pabst and a Slip’n Slide - will include a 10K, 5K and kids run events starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, July 2, in downtown Nisswa. The 10K will start at 8 a.m. and the 5K at 8:05 a.m. on Main Street in downtown Nisswa. The fun run/walk will end at the Nisswa Community Center. A chip timing option is available for those who register by June 29. The free kids run for ages 10 and under will be at 9:45 a.m. Registration is not required for the kids run; however, a parent or guardian must be entered in the 5K or 10K for children to participate.

Cost is $38 through July 1 ($45 for chip timing) and $40 on race day. Chip timing registration won’t be available after June 29. Online registration at www.runnisswa. com closes at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 1. Onsite registration and packet pickup will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 1, and 6-7:30 a.m. Sunday, July 2, in the Journey Church parking lot. The Firecracker Run helps raise funds for the local local nonprofit organizations who help during the run. For more information, visit www.runnisswa.com. Echo Journal File Photo

Participants happily cross the finish line at last year's Nisswa Firecracker Run at the Nisswa Community Center. The annual run concludes with a Louisiana crawfish boil and Slip'n Slide each year.
