Fox has renewed its “Animation Domination” block of shows for a new season, but in the meantime, you can watch rebroadcasts airing Sunday, July 26. The network was primed to handle the hurdles of the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns with its Sunday night block already on the slate for its upcoming fall 2020 schedule. Comedy fans can look forward to new “Bob’s Burgers,” “Duncanville,” “The Simpsons,” “Bless the Harts” and “Family Guy” in the near-ish future.

Like you, I’m getting tired of quarantine. We’ve been home now for nine and a half weeks, and not once has Mickey Rourke blindfolded me and spoon-fed me cherries!

I’m sure he means it to sound comforting, but “transitioning

to greatness” really sounds like something a cult leader says right before the end.

In the midst of a global pandemic and massive civil unrest, reporters are totally burying the story of how many people were watching TV. It reminds me of that headline after Pearl Harbor: “FDR speech gets incredible ratings. Also, war.”

Trump talked about “rampgate” for a whopping 10 minutes and 23 seconds — which is almost as long as it took for him to get down that ramp.

American Airlines says that passengers on a recent flight may have been exposed to hepatitis. American Airlines passengers were furious, while Spirit Airlines passengers were like, “That’s all? I got polio.”

The FDA just announced that over 95% of baby food they tested had traces of metal. On the bright side, your mom wasn’t lying when she said, “Here comes the airplane.”

Three drug smugglers were using cocaine as floaties. It was crazy, the rescue helicopter didn’t drop a rope, they just jumped up to it.

Barcelona’s Liceu Grand Theatre held its reopening and, to mark the occasion, a string quartet performed a concert for nearly 2,300 potted plants. It must have been a pretty bad performance since they made the entire audience leaf.

Fox’s animated comedies renewed for future seasons

F ox heard that everyone is looking for a laugh these days, so it has renewed its “Animation Domination” block of shows for a new season.

The network was uniquely primed to handle the hurdles of the COVID-19 pandemic’s production shutdowns with already-completed reality and drama series on the slate for its upcoming fall 2020 schedule, and comedy fans can look forward to new episodes of “Bob’s Burgers,” “The Simpsons,” “Bless the Harts” and “Family Guy” in the near-ish future as well — they’ve all been renewed for the 2020-21 season.

shuffled, and the “Bob’s Burgers” movie was on the list, so fans of the show can look forward to what may very well be their first in-theatre experience of the year watching Bob, Linda, Tina, Gene and Louise Belcher get into some trouble in the family restaurant.

Speaking of Fox animation veterans, the network naturally renewed the longest-running American sitcom ever, “The Simpsons,” through its 32nd season back in 2019. This upcoming season will include the comedy’s 700th episode, an incredible milestone that’s like the cherry on top of yet another record that the series broke in Season 31. “The Simpsons” tops the list of American scripted prime-time series with the

isodes. “The Simpsons” has been a major influence on popular culture since the first episode aired in 1989, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no room to grow in 2020.

The animation itself improves with time (I remember being a bit shocked when I saw the animation of the first iteration of “The Simpsons” as a short that my parents had recorded from TV on a VHS tape), and so do the characterizations of Springfield’s citizens. Apu Nahasapeemapetilon has been voiced by Hank Azaria (“Brockmire”) — a white, American man — since the inception of the character.

Apu has received criticism, though, as he is portrayed as a stereotype of a South Asian man,

a lot more to look forward to for Apu.

When “The Simpsons” was renewed back in 2019, “Family Guy” was also promised a spot on Fox’s Sunday night lineup through its 19th season. The renewal isn’t that much of a surprise since not only has “Family Guy” been on the air for more than two decades, its creator, Seth MacFarlane (“The Orville”), is more powerful than ever, having signed a $200-million deal with NBC Universal this year. MacFarlane may be busy, but that won’t stop him from reprising his voice acting duties as Peter Griffin, the bumbling New England husband and father who constantly makes embarrassing situations even worse.

WHAT’S NEW ON NETFLIX

“The Umbrella Academy”

Season 2

Based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name by Gerard Way, this unique show was a big hit for Netflix last year. Don’t miss the next season of this unusual superhero series when it premieres Friday, July 31, on the streamer. Season 1 introduced viewers to the Hargreeves children — Vanya (Ellen Page, “Inception,” 2010), Luther (Tom Hopper, “Black Sails”), Diego (David Castañeda, “Switched at Birth”), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman, “Wednesdays,” 2020), Klaus (Robert Sheehan, “Fortitude”), Ben (Justin H. Min, “Dating After College”) and Five (Aidan Gallagher, “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn”) — who were all born with superpowers and adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore, “The Borgias”) to create a team of superheroes. However, the team didn’t last long as they began to drift apart as teenagers due to their vast differences in personality and power. But, following the death of their adoptive father and the news of an imminent apocalypse, they band together again. That didn’t quite go as planned. The Season 1 finale saw Vanya bringing on the apocalypse

herself and the others narrowly escaping by using Five’s power to go back in time. Now, in Season 2, we see the repercussions of their decision as the siblings find themselves in various times over a three-year period starting in 1960. Each is stuck in the past and unsure if the others have survived, so some have done the only thing they felt they could: moved on. But when Five lands in the middle of yet another world-ending event, they realize they have altered history, and not for the better.

“The Hater” (2020)

The latest drama from Academy Award-nominated director Jan Komasa (“Corpus Cristi,” 2019) makes its debut this Wednesday, July 29, on Netflix. “The Hater” provides commentary on today’s society as it follows Tomasz (Maciej Musiałowski, “Druga szansa”), a failed law student who desperately wants to earn his family’s respect and to catch the eye of his old friend, Gabi (Vanessa Aleksander, “Wojenne dziewczyny”). Despite sending out numerous resumes, Tomasz struggles to find a job until he finally lands a position at a PR company. He soon realizes that the company is severely lacking in ethics, using social media smear campaigns and political games to manipulate society. The company quickly notices Tomasz talent for the job and has him orchestrate more and more campaigns, but while he enjoys his work, he begins to see the real-life effects.

“Get Even”

Private school drama takes a sinister turn when this series premieres Friday, July 31, on Netflix. In order to expose the many bullies in their school, four girls from very different cliques — Bree (Mia McKenna-Bruce, “The Dumping Ground”), Kitty (Kim Adis, “The Turning,” 2020), Olivia (Jessica Alexander, “Penny on M.A.R.S”) and Margot (Bethany Antonia, “Pin Cushion,” 2017) — band together to create a group known as Don’t Get Mad (DGM). When their fellow student Mika’s (Emily Carey, “Casualty”) private photos are stolen and posted online without her consent, the team targets the culprit, a boy named Ronny (Joe Flynn, “Call the Midwife”).

Before they can expose him, though, a mystery attacker pushes Ronny out of his bedroom window, killing him. Upon investigation, Ronny is discovered to have been holding a note that reads “DGM.” The girls quickly realize that someone is trying to frame them, and as the investigation into Ronny’s murder continues, each of the girls’ many dark secrets begin to come out, making them look more and more guilty.

“Seriously Single” (2020)

Fulu Mugovhani (“Ayanda,” 2015) stars as serial monogamist Dineo who learns what it truly means to be single for the first time in this comedy premiering on Netflix this Friday, July 31. Dineo wants nothing more than to find true love and get married, but when her latest love and boyfriend, Lunga (Bohang Moeko, “Is’Thunzi”), breaks up with her to be with someone else, she is left devastated. Heartbroken, she moves in with her commitmentphobic best friend, Noni (Tumi Morake, “Vagrant Queen”). While Noni helps Dineo to navigate her newfound singledom, she needs some help from Dineo herself when she meets a man she could actually be serious about.

Due to the coronavirus, people all over the world have been stuck in quarantine, and in those situations, creative cooking can get tricky, whether it’s because you can’t get to the store as often or your budget has been cut in half

“Bull” (2019)

Don’t miss this poignant drama when it joins the Hulu lineup on Thursday, July 30. Since her mother was sent to prison, Kris (newcomer Amber Havard) has had a tough time with things and has begun acting out, causing her guardian all sorts of trouble. She goes too far one night when she breaks into a neighbor’s house with her friends to have a party and gets caught. The house belongs to Abe (Rob Morgan, “Stranger Things”), a past-his-prime bullfighter, who agrees to not press charges in exchange for her help with his work. As she works for him, Kris begins to learn not only about the art of bullfighting but how to deal with her own emotions and not let her mother’s choices dictate her future.

WHAT’S NEW ON DISNEY+ “Muppets Now”

due to a lack of work. British chef Jamie Oliver appeals to everyone in this situation in his new series

“Keep Cooking and Carry On,” and you can watch the entire first season starting Sunday, July 26, on Hulu. Rather than using a slew of fancy ingredients you’ve never heard of, Oliver’s new series is all about using what you already have in your home, from long-forgotten pantry items to things that have been buried at the back of your freezer for too long. Each episode features two budget-friendly recipes using common ingredients and includes suggestions about what you can use instead if you don’t have some of those ingredients. Whether it’s vegetable curry, homemade bread or egg-free chocolate cake, you’ll be amazed what Oliver can create using the staple ingredients most people already have in their homes.

On Friday, July 31, it’s time to play the music and time to light the lights in the premiere of this new, unscripted Muppets series on Disney+. Kermit, Miss Piggy and all your favorite Muppets are now back in the spotlight performing some of their classic bits like Gonzo the Great, Fozzie Bear’s corny jokes and lots of crazy experiments from Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker. On top of their classic antics, the Muppets are joined by a slew of amazing celebrity guests ranging from Broadway actor Taye Diggs (“Rent,” 2004) and comedian Seth Rogen (“Long Shot,” 2019) to the iconic drag queen RuPaul (“AJ and the Queen”) and actress Aubrey Plaza (“Parks and Recreation”). “Muppets Now” is sure to bring viewers new and exciting content as a new episode premieres every Friday for six weeks.

A new ‘Full Frontal With Samantha Bee’ airs on TBS

Buzzing over airwaves largely dominated by men, Samantha Bee (“Sisters,” 2015) does not mince words when it comes to her opinions or feisty retorts. The Bee is back again for more biting satire on Wednesday, July 29, when a new episode of “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” airs on TBS.

Bee, a Canadian-American co median, TV host, writer, producer and actor, spent over a decade on the Comedy Central juggernaut “The Daily Show” before transi tioning into her own satirical news and current affairs TV show in 2016. But Bee is not one to sit be hind a desk; she’s known for her field reports, which are loaded with deadpan jokes.

And it’s not just a hit with com edy fans — “Full Frontal” has been blowing away critics since Season 1, gaining a 100% approv al rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a label as the show that filled the void left when Jon Stewart retired from “The Daily Show.” Her seg ment “Trump Conspiracy Theory” finished No. 1 on Vulture’s “10 Most Important Late-Night TV Moments in 2016.” Wired’s Vir ginia Heffernan (“CNN”) even praised the show for its un matched mercilessness as a voice for feminists.

The Emmys gave “Full Frontal” an Out standing Writing Award for its “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” specials, plus a total of 17 nominations by the end of the show’s fourth season. The show, which has also covered international stories and aired from China, Germany, Scot land, Jordan, Iraq and Mexico, has received a total of 33 award nomi nations from 2016 to the present.
