“Dancing Queens” (2021)

Get up and grab your dancing shoes, because the new Swedish film “Dancing Queens” is coming to Netflix on Thursday, June 3. Dylan Pettersson, played by Molly Nutley (“Alena,” 2015), is a 23-year-old girl from a small island in the Swedish archipelago. Trying to reach her big dreams of being a professional dancer, Dylan ends up missing an important audition and falls into a role as a primary dancer in a drag show. The catch — Dylan and the choreographer, Victor, played by Fredrik Quiñones in his film debut, have to keep the fact that she’s a girl under wraps. This exciting, fun and heartwarming film comes from director Helena Bergström, who also wrote the movie alongside Denize Karabuda (“Pokerface,” 2008), and will star Marie Göranzon (“Day and Night,” 2004), Mattias Nordkvist (“White Wall”), Claes Malmberg (“Saltön”), Christopher Wollter (“Quicksand”), Emil Almén (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” 2009), Razmus Nyström (“Land of the Free,” 2020), André Christenson (“Advokaten”), Rakel Wärmländer (“Sommaren med släkten”) and Max Ulveson in his on-screen debut.

Griffin (“All Creatures Here Below,” 2018) and Michael Mahaffie (“The Mars Generation,” 2017), this documentary explores the stories of transgender teen athletes as they compete at the top of their fields while facing the boundaries of discrimination. The athletes featured are wrestler Mack Beggs, skier Sarah Rose Huckman and track star Andraya Yearwood. The award-winning documentary aims to highlight these individual stories and dig deep into the culture war swirling around trans individuals in America and especially trans athletes as they fight against discriminatory laws and regulations. Buckle up for Amazon Prime Video’s new Brazilian crime drama, “Dom,” set to premiere Friday, June 4, on the streamer. Inspired by a true story, the series centers around Pedro Dom (Gabriel Leone, “Dark Days”), a young man from Rio de Janeiro’s middle class. The eightepisode season will see his story begin as a teenager experimenting with cocaine and through to his promotion to the head of a dangerous crime organization that gained significant attention in Brazil’s tabloids in the early 2000s. Along with his father, Victor (Flávio Tolezani, “The Other Side of Paradise”), who has dedicated his life to fighting crime, the story will follow the pair as they go through life on opposite

sides of the law. From director Breno Silveira (“One Against All”), this new series promises drama, crime and lots of action.

The story follows their adventures and missteps as Gabby works to keep them safe and keep their identities secret.
