Brampton’s Largest Business Association For 135 years, the Brampton Board of Trade (BBOT) has been the “go-to” organization for Brampton businesses of all sectors to convene, collaborate and create solutions to boost regional economic prosperity. CHAIR’S MESSAGE

Donna Fagon-Pascal Some of the world’s top companies call Brampton home. Global leaders in sectors spanning advanced manufacturing, logistics, technology and innovation enjoy membership in the Board of Trade. Likewise, our local businesses make a big impact here, too, and are also major drivers of our region and country’s economies. This Directory embodies that strength, depth, diversity and talent and serves to highlight the ways in which local businesses have global reach. The Board of Trade’s impact remains strong because of its diversity. This past April, the Brampton Board of Trade hosted the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting. During that conference we also celebrated a big milestone – 135 years of serving Brampton’s business community. Today, we remain the only accredited business association in Brampton and are respected as the voice of Brampton’s real economy. The concerns, priorities and aspirations of our membership are reflected in everything the Board of Trade does. Together, as we move forward from a period of historic challenge, our voice grows even stronger. The job-creation strength and influence of our sector networks has never been more relevant. The past two years have been a challenging time for our community. The effects of public health restrictions have been disruptive for some businesses. So many entrepreneurs and innovators rose to the occasion. Together, we found ways to continue serving customers while keeping our community safe. And we helped each other, contributing to broader efforts to overcome our shared pandemic experience. As we emerge on the other side,

Brampton businesses will continue to innovate and provide solutions to ensure that our community will be resilient and future-ready. Operationally, the Brampton Board of Trade has continued strong, with a successful digital transformation that has allowed us to pivot much of our programming to a virtual format. We have maintained networks that focus on the drivers of business success. These have helped you to make important connections. Our advocacy programs have focused on advancing policies and priorities that contribute to the success of all businesses. Together, our advocacy agenda has seen important progress made with decision-makers at all levels of government on topics such as the local business climate, critical infrastructure priorities, and talent attraction and retention. Members continue to support the Board of Trade because we have been collaborative, creative and courageous. Our business volunteers have maintained a laser focus on programming and initiatives that emphasize the competitive advantage of our companies and the comparative advantage of our community. I am proud to serve as Chair on behalf of all of the members who make up our network and collectively provide our strength. On behalf of our Board of Directors, thank you for your ongoing dedication and support. Our best days are ahead of us and our shared efforts will continue to strengthen Brampton’s business community and the economy of our region.

MAYOR’S MESSAGE Patrick Brown Dear Friends, On behalf of Brampton City Council, I am pleased to extend best wishes to members of the Brampton Board of Trade. I appreciate your advocacy efforts and I want to thank the volunteers for their dedication to the business community. The Business Directory is an excellent source of information, and a great way to support your fellow members. As one of Canada’s youngest and fastest growing cities, we have so much to offer. Brampton has a diverse workforce and access to a highly skilled talent pool. Our central location within Canada’s Innovation Corridor and our connectivity provide companies with quick and easy access to international markets. The COVID-19 pandemic has been an economic tidal wave for businesses since its onset and we remain committed to supporting and advocating for our business community. For this Term of Council’s final budget, we unanimously supported and delivered Brampton’s fourth consecutive tax freeze and maintained a record contribution to reserves, with financial sustainability and growth for our city. We also reaffirmed our commitment to addressing Brampton’s healthcare emergency, designating $62.5M of funding for the new Peel Memorial Hospital. The 2022 Budget will support the community as we continue to navigate and move forward from the COVID-19 pandemic, and set the City up for continued success in providing excellent quality of life and service for all of Brampton. Brampton is a City of Opportunities, and we are dedicated to supporting our local businesses as we work to overcome

the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, together. Collaboration with all levels of government and community partners plays a key role in this. We are grateful to receive $945,000 for six communities across our city through the My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program. It will help us to support local business and elevate market opportunities in our great city. The City continues to revitalize and unlock the economic potential of its downtown by building an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem: the Innovation District has a sharp focus on start-up scaling, investment attraction and talent development, and provides local support for entrepreneurs and new business. It also offers resources to support innovation and technology companies in creating new technology. With agreements starting in 2019, the City has committed to investing approximately $20.5 million in its Innovation District, with an additional approximately $55.2 million in investments being drawn in by Innovation District partners. Please visit our InvestBrampton.ca website, which provides a centralized source for local businesses, entrepreneurs, and potential foreign investors to access the information and resources they need to locate or grow their business in Brampton. There is so much happening in Brampton, and we’re excited about this growth and potential of our city! Committees Join one of our committees where you can contribute expertise and perspective.

Attend Events There are numerous events throughout the year where we welcome you to have your say and collaborate.

Volunteer We have a robust lineup of events and are always looking for volunteers who can spare a couple hours to support us in making them a success.

Treasury Instigating change takes time and money and you can support the Board with sponsorships for events or particular efforts to drive change.

Advocate Talk to your partners, employees, customers and vendors about the importance of taking a stand on issues that matter.

Write Take a moment to write a letter to the different levels of government outlining your thoughts on where change is needed.

Spearhead a Project If aligned with our mandate, there is no limit to how the Board of Trade can support members. If you have an idea, we would love to hear it. COMMITTEES & NETWORKS Policy & Government Relations With the 2021–2024 Strategic Plan as its lead, this committee focuses on the policies and issues impacting Brampton businesses. The committee is instrumental in conveying to elected officials the important issues that Brampton businesses face, asking the pertinent questions that concern our members, and most especially, calling for actionable policies that are Brampton-centric.

Finance This committee is entrusted with looking at the strategic direction of the Board from a financial perspective. While overseeing the Board’s financial activities, including budget, compliance, auditing, and investment portfolio, this group of financial experts is charged with ensuring healthy operational results and excellent fiscal management. An extension of the Board of Directors, this committee can dig deeper into specific areas to provide insights and ideas for future strategic decision-making as well as make recommendations on the current budget and how it connects to the five-year plan.

Peer to Peer Networks The Brampton Board of Trade is the forum for quality conversations. Leading businesses meet monthly by sectors and common objectives. P2P Peer Networks are designed to provide a place to share common challenges and solutions, to identify trends in the market, and to provide tools for Brampton to prosper across all sectors. Trade Network Businesses that export goods either internationally or inter-provincially come together to build their network. Next Gen Network For rising company stars interested in leadership and professional development. Talent Network An engaging group of HR professionals focused on retention, recognition, recruitment and other key issues. Brampton’s Innovation Network Bringing together leaders in the Advanced Manufacturing sector to talk about key issues to drive business. Prosperity Network CEOs, business owners and other leaders meet to discuss the overarching issues that impact Brampton’s prosperity. Connectwork A network of Brampton’s businesswomen focused on personal and professional development in an inclusive and supportive setting.

ADVOCACY Elections, government budgets and regulatory changes have significant implications for businesses. In response, the Brampton Board of Trade drives change and implements strategic initiatives in order to support our collective city objectives. We bring YOUR issues to the table.

Local Get There on Time Accelerate planning on higher-order transit and other transportation infrastructure investment. Get the Main St. LRT Extension built – now, not in a decade. Demystify City Hall Help businesses to better understand the budgeting process and its impact on them. More Post-Secondary Education (PSE) Work with community partners to widen the scope of post-secondary educational offerings and retain youth. We are pleased to soon be welcoming the Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine and continue to push for expanded PSE opportunities in Brampton. I Love Brampton What is the I Love Brampton Campaign and where does this contribution go? Many members make a contribution over and above their member rate towards this campaign. Proceeds from the I Love Brampton campaign support economic development initiatives. These are initiatives such as the Board of Trade’s advocacy efforts to make Brampton a place where businesses of all sizes want to relocate, expand or open up. Our staff regularly engage with elected officials at Queen’s Park and on Parliament Hill to stress the importance of a pro-growth business climate and delivering on Brampton’s big infrastructure priorities like the Main St. LRT Extension, Riverwalk and two-way, all-day GO train service. I Love Brampton proceeds directly support these economic advocacy efforts and other collaborative efforts, such as participation in the Canadian Global Cities Council, that provide a tangible return on investment and benefit all who work or operate a business in our city.

Regional Inter-Regional Connection Drive for favourable decisions to support two-way, all-day GO train service between Brampton, Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo. Innovation Corridor Collaboration in Canada’s Innovation Corridor spanning from the GTA to Waterloo Region, an economic powerhouse of more than $345 billion. The Brampton Board of Trade successfully hosted the 4th Annual Canada’s Innovation Corridor Summit on September 21, 2021. The 2021 Summit explored key issues associated with the theme of Disruption. In particular, keynotes and panel discussions focused on the human integration of talent and tech to capture sector-disruptive opportunities.

Provincial/Federal Budget Allocation Communicate the business community’s expectation for fair share funding for Brampton to local MPs and MPPs. Tax Changes The Brampton Board of Trade advocates directly with City Council, Members of Provincial Parliament and Members of Parliament to help them understand the cumulative regulatory burden faced by businesses. Pandemic Recovery We work tirelessly to help all levels of government understand the burden that operating restrictions have placed on businesses, and to suggest ways that policies and programs could give businesses more immediate relief. Canadian Global Cities Council As an active member, the Brampton Board of Trade draws on best practices from other major cities and engages in advocacy to achieve results from the federal government.
