gordon phase II house addition cos cob, ct This generously sized room hangs over a steep rocky landscape looking out onto the trees beyond and a new pool+terrace below. Using typical wood framed construction; cantilevers run in 2 directions perpendicular to each other in order to provide access all the way around the exterior at the lower level and a roof terrace above. Shear walls at the intersections of these cantilevering members occur at the peripherals to keep the wide interior view unobstructed and providing sufficient strength for the future summer rooftop parties. richard/skelton residence new york, ny Renovation is in an early, post-war, white-brick building. The light qualities of the space are enhanced by the use of a rich material palette: Teak and bronze details introduce a warm glow throughout the apartment. A system of details, including integral bronze pulls, perforated bronze door, solid teak door frames, and solid teak edged doors, provide a sense of serene unity. 6"

border vs. boundary montgomery, al Thesis project about the interrelationships of materiality, fabrication and place contributing to an experience in the public realm of a city street through the design of a wall. Spatial distinction helps us actively engage with architecture, more specially the difference between borders and boundaries. A boundary is a distinct and simple edge, similar to a tree line that drastically ends as you move up a mountain because the trees cannot grow any higher. A border however, is similar to a shoreline, which as an active edge is constantly changing and allows for social, spatial and dynamic exchanges. BRANDONBLOCK brandon.bloc@gmail.com

rose lee’s house footwash, al Rose Lee’s House is the result of two semesters work investigating contemporary forms of rural dwellings at Auburn University’s Rural Studio. In 2008-2009, Rose’s House focused in experimentation of an expandable house. This house expands and grows by need, and over time: it is based in the traditional local farmhouse strategy and its design is driven by the client’s priorities, necessities and lifestyle. The experimentation offers the opportunity to test a low-rise model as an alternative to the contemporary “sprawl logic”, for the development of rural villages and their densification. le piagge urban garden section c florence, italy Le piagge is a disorganized and unconnected neighborhood where the buildings are meant to contain people, not to stimulate social relationships and community. The result is that people do not interpret public space as a common place. The urban plan calls for a grid of kitchen gardens focused around a large pavilion to give a purpose to the green space that would encourage social interactions. Architecturally the buildings are designed to reflect the same principles of community, but on a smaller, more neighborly scale with shared common spaces between affordable housing units.
