The Brandon Chamber awards Bob Jenkins with the Lifetime Builder of the Year Award posthumously
Anotable Brandon businessman took home the Brandon Chamber’s Lifetime Builder of the Year Award posthumously for 2021.
Leslie Robert “Bob” Jenkins was born in Winnipeg in 1944. The second oldest of five children to Fred and Eleanor Jenkins, he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and shortly after completing his service moved to Brandon where he met his wife, Beverly, whom he married in 1966.
After working at various jobs over the years, in 1971 he founded Jenkins Business Supply, a company that sold office and janitorial supplies. Over time, Jenkins saw an opportunity in the flooring market and shifted the business more towards that industry. Jenkins would travel to the United States often where he would purchase carpets and then bring them back home since they were more affordable.
“Bob wasn’t happy with the normal supply chain in the carpet industry, so he went directly to the carpet mills and improved his costs, which was able to pass those savings on to his customers,” said Paul Crane, business partner and close friend.
Jenkins sold his business at a young age and loved to travel. He had a home in Arizona, where he spent much of his time as well. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, volunteering, and spending time at Clear Lake. Jenkins was a notable figure in the community and was fond of helping the underprivileged. At the time of his passing, he was working with Samaritan House Ministries Inc.
Jenkins died on December 24, 2020 in the comfort of his home. He is survived by his wife Beverly Jenkins, daughter Tammy and husband David, their children Sarah (Jon), Katie (Devon); son Mark and his wife BobbyJo and their children Grace and Maddy. The Brandon Chamber of Commerce awarded Bob Jenkins’ family with his Lifetime Builder of the Year Award for 2021 at this year’s Chamber Business Achievement Awards. ¢
