Back to Business
I
t’s time to get ‘back to business’! While I don’t wish away those last days of summer, I am excited for another busy fall as we start up our events season, regroup our committees and ramp up our advocacy work. We have been busy this summer planning and laying the groundwork for another great year and we are excited to introduce some new events and programs. This year’s calendar of events includes two new event series: Pub Nights and Business for Breakfast. The breakfast series will provide an opportunity to network before the workday and will feature speakers and panels that highlight women leaders, young professionals and current issues and events. Our first breakfast on October 5th will feature three local female entrepreneurs. Similar to our Business After 5 series, Pub nights will provide an opportunity to connect and meet fellow Chamber members in a local lounge for fun and casual, after work networking.
will speak about entrepreneurial passion and being a business owner in Brandon, followed by our annual October Small Business Week Luncheon, where we will recognize member milestone anniversaries. At our November Luncheon we will host a panel discussion on carbon tax and potential impacts for business, and we will close out 2017 with our annual Holiday Luncheon in December. Also mark you calendars for our AGM Wine & Cheese, a couple Business After 5s, workshops on social media and website marketing, our First Friday Chamber Coffee series and our third annual HR Conference on “Managing Today’s Workforce” – all planned for the fall.

Two systems drive the way we think and make choices, Daniel Kahneman explains: System One is fast, intuitive, and emotional; System Two is slower, more deliberative, and more logical. Examining how both systems function within the mind, Kahneman exposes the extraordinary capabilities as well as the biases of fast thinking and the pervasive influence of intuitive impressions on our thoughts and our choices. Engaging the reader in a lively conversation about how we think, he shows where we can trust our intuitions and how we can tap into the benefits of slow thinking, contrasting the two-system view of the mind with the standard model of the rational economic agent.
