SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESS
Chamber Highlights
Every October we celebrate Small Business Week in recognition of the importance and impact of small business to our economy. Small businesses have always had to be flexible and innovative to keep up with market
pressures and remain competitive, but today, those challenges have been amplified by COVID. Businesses have had to adapt to increased uncertainty and risk in the marketplace,

supply chain issues, and new COVID related government regulations. However, in true entrepreneurial spirit, there are so many businesses adapting by improving their processes, leveraging new opportunities, or

completely rehauling their business offerings. But they can’t do it alone. It will take the collected effort and support of all us to ensure their survival and to ensure we can continue to enjoy the family owned restaurants, small retail shops and local business services that help make up the fabric of our community. The #CanadaUnited campaign, launched in June with the support of the entire Chamber network, is aimed at doing just that. The nationwide small and local business campaign is encouraging Canadians to buy and support local. The Canada United Small Business Relief Fund was developed to help

We encourage you to check it out to see if you qualify. https:gocanadaunited.ca/ For our part, we have continued to find ways to support our local business community. Whether it is through member social media spotlights or our #strongertogether campaign, we love to learn and spread the word of the good things our members are doing. Once again, we are also excited to host our annual Small Business event. It is an opportunity to be inspired and learn from the stories of local entrepreneurs. This year’s virtual event will feature local business owner and artist Trish Fjeldsted, of Brandon’s Bloom Box, as she shares her secrets of how creativity and resiliency has led to her business success. As part of our local celebration, we will also recognize businesses that have celebrated milestone anniversaries – from those that have persevered through the first five years to others who are celebrating over a millennium of business resiliency. Small businesses are the backbone of our community and it is more important now that ever, to support them. I encourage you to attend and help us applaud their achievements.
