6:00 PM Documentary Series Nancy Cohen MALCOLM MCLAREN - NOT FOR SALE There will be fireworks of another kind at the Anthology on Wednesday, as the New Filmmakers series celebrates democracy with MALCOLM MCLAREN — NOT FOR SALE. First screened at NewFilmmakers as part of our Fourth Of July celebration in 2001, the film is an American’s look at Britain — specifically the London mayoral campaign of Sex Pistols organizer Malcolm McLaren. (from a review in OffOffOff.com)
7:00 PM Short Film Program Peter Valente FIREWATER Adrienne Friedberg THE MERMAID COMPLEX Ariel is an 18-year-old songwriter caught in a net of Disney-fueled fantasies. Living the hipster dream in Brooklyn, she has a great voice, a hot cyberspace boyfriend, a crippling stutter, and a mermaid complex. When her gorgeous roommate forces her to go out and play in the real world, she has to find a way to leave the fairy tales behind and maybe actually meet the man of her dreams. But if she does, will the magic wear off? The Mermaid Complex is the result of a multi-layered collaboration. We are profoundly grateful to the superb musical, dramatic, and technical talent on our team. We hope that the quality of our independent, self-financed project demonstrates that creating an entertaining and meaningful film in today’s market doesn’t have to be like a dream that only happens once upon a time.

Inspired, he purchases a black market handgun and begins looking for his audience; committing a series of armed robberies to steal empty boxes from eccentrics living in the Village.
