This year NewFilmmakers will celebrate our fifteenth year as New York’s leading screening series. We have gone from a local screening series started by NYU students to an international screening series that every year showcases over a thousand Short Films, Documentaries, and Features. We continue to select films and videos overlooked by traditional film festivals and to showcase new and unrecognized filmmakers. Our Winter Schedule starts with our fourth annual Winter Festival Screening Series from January 2nd to 9th with eight days of films, receptions, and networking opportunities for independent filmmakers and their audiences. Our films include the new feature RADIOMAN, the story of an extraordinary eccentric and formerly homeless man who has become a New York film set mascot with over 100 small parts to his name, and SAINT DRACULA 3D, a film about a vampire in revenge. We will also have a Documentary Night and selected short films. Our Winter Schedule continues every Wednesday from January 16th till March 27th. In addition to over a hundred new short and feature films, the Winter Schedule will include Experimental Films, our NewLatino Filmmaker Series, and new Israeli Films as well as our annual Valentine Day celebration and Triangle Fire memorial screening with Sasha Reuther’s BROTHERS ON THE LINE feature about his remarkable family. We will also screen our regular College Screening Series with films from Vassar College and Digital Film Academy. NewFilmmakers NY screens at Anthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at 32 Second Avenue & 2nd Street. NewFilmmakers LA screens at the Sunset Gower Studio and has become a leading showcase for new films in Hollywood. Many films screened at NewFilmmakers are now available on NewFilmmakers Online. New York Admission is $6 for the whole evening and tickets are available at the Anthology Box Office the night of screening.

8:30 NEWFILMMAKERS FEATURE PRESENTATION Mary Kerr RADIOMAN RADIOMAN is the story of an extraordinary eccentric, a formerly homeless man who over the years has become a New York film set mascot with over 100 small parts to his name. It’s the story of a man full of contradictions, of bitterness but also of hope. It’s a story about modern New York, and how it’s been sanitized beyond recognition; of our celebrity culture, where the lifestyle of the famous is valued above all; and of individuality, of an eccentric in a conventionalist world running out of them. It gives the audience unparalleled access to the behind the scenes of show business - of paparazzi, autograph collectors, premieres and film shoots - all seen through the unlikely eyes of an old New York street bum.

During those fifteen years, Cuban men and women, young and old, crossed the Atlantic to fight for a land they knew nothing about. During that time, the Cuban soldiers captured the pathos and intensity of the conflict in the letters they sent home. Following the yarns of their correspondence, Letters from Angola is a poetic look at these anonymous stories and a personal journey of intimate discoveries by Angolan-born filmmaker Dulce Fernandes.

8:15 NEWFILMMAKERS FEATURE PRESENTATION Kevin McKinney CORPORATE FM In 1996 commercial radio underwent a quiet revolution. Local station owners everywhere sold their stations as fast as they could to conglomerates. The new owners gutted the staffs.’Corporate FM’ is about what happens when a city loses a communal microphone. Unlike Facebook or Twitter or web-based music sharing applications, locally owned radio reaches thousands of people across many incomes and ages in a single area at the same time with a message unique to that area. That ability is what once moved entire cities to unite around local bands, local charities, local businesses, and even new ideas. Radio insiders reveal with personal stories how radio was destroyed from the inside. They uncover a financial shell game that doomed radio the moment it consolidated.

Comprised of never-before-seen footage from the UAW internal archive, stirring first-hand accounts and narration by Martin Sheen, this film takes an in-depth look at a controversial history. It not only weaves a striking personal narrative of one family’s commitment, but provides timely commentary on issues that resonate far beyond their era, from the virtual collapse of the ‘Big 3’ automakers to current debates over workers rights, trade agreements, national health-care, and the Occupy movement. A tour-de-force sure to engage and inspire.
