SALE NOTES Thank you for taking the time to look through our bred female offering. When I decided to have a bred sale, my goal wasn’t just to offer bred females. I aim to provide new, young, and seasoned breeders alike the opportunity to define their success through the progeny produced by these bred females. It comes with great pride to offer you this set. Please reach out with any questions! All females have been confirmed bred by a licensed Veterinarian on 10/26. All females have been vaccinated with FarrowSure Gold B and Fostera PRRS. In the unfortunate event that a purchased bred becomes open, females are valued at 60/40 as in 60 percent being the female, and 40 percent being the litter she carries. Any major farrowing issues will be handled on a case-to-case bases with no guarantee as farrowing management plays a major role. We pride ourselves on having our females in good working condition, to go to work for you.

LOT 1 Lot 1, I couldn’t have selected a better candidate than this Grasshopper female shown successfully by the Krueger Family. She blazed a trail of success in the state of South Dakota, consistently grabbing banners week in and week out. Ultimately, she concluded her journey by clinching the Reserve D2 Market Gilt title at the SD State Fair. When she returned to Salem, Iowa, I was floored by how she had matured into an absolute specimen. From a genetic perspective, 28-6 hails from an incredibly successful sow line. In fact, she is directly related to over half a dozen of my very best sows. In her second parity, 28-6 dam recently raised our high-selling Pre-Roll male pig in one of our summer online sales. We’ve also retained several gilts from this line, and the future looks exceptionally promising for this particular sow family. So, seize this incredible opportunity and don’t look back!

LOT 2 The King daughters across the country have had a major impact on large and small firms alike. I happen to have a pair of littermate The King x Family Ties daughters that are both going on 2nd parity. I happen to get both bred in the same group. With limited space, decisions had to be made. 24-7 is young, primed and ready to go to work. It’s probably downright dumb to offer a female of this caliber, bred to Next To Nothing, due November 21st. It’s a match made in heaven. Step up to the plate here and swing your bat hard and fast; this could be a home run! This lot is very close to her due date. We DO NOT have the space to farrow her here. If you plan to buy this lot, please be prepared to get her picked up ASAP.

LOT 3 As many of you know, livestock breeding is a process. I have always tried to keep some York influence in part of my herd. With that being said, I have started to acquire a surplus of blue and white females running around the farm. Offering a few special ones that are just getting started. 33-2 is a keeper gilt from the 2022 summer crop. She grew up on a self-feeder, in competition with several other gilts. She has always resembled functional, well-built, practical livestock. She still has the extras, with large amounts of hair for a white pig and dense features. If I were a betting man, I’d say 33-12, having a belly full of blue pigs out of Close Call, is a sure bet. With NJSA shows adding a blue division, and many state fairs sure to follow suit, this could be an incredibly profitable litter! This lot is very close to her due date. We DO NOT have the space to farrow her here. If you plan to buy this lot, please be prepared to get her picked up ASAP.

LOT 4 Sometimes you have to let pieces of the puzzle go once they have completed their part. This particular Me Against Me sow has been nothing but good to me, creating highly sellable baby pigs with the extras we all like to talk about, time and time again. I always said that once I retained a high caliber blue female out of her, I’d consider letting her go. Well, that time has come; she blessed me with several blue daughters this summer. Close Call semen has been exceptional, with high conception rates and large litter sizes. Yes, she’s a little thin, but she got bred directly out of the crate and hasn’t missed a beat.

LOT 5 It always amazes me how much gilts can change once their show career is over and they enter the real world. To be honest, this one is a bit of an exception; she hasn’t really changed. She has always possessed the outlier qualities we all like to chase. Incredibly dense-featured, yet with all that bulk, she remains athletic with an incredible running gear. From a genetic standpoint, 11-6 has some of the most influential females in the showpig industry in her pedigree. Capone, a boar at Hi Point purchased from Trogdon but lost too soon, is in her lineage. Capone comes from one of their most prolific sow lines. On the bottom side of this female is a young Big Brother X Goosebumps sow at the Slayton firm, showing great promise. What’s exciting about this breeding is that her litter of pigs sired by Prince Charming will have two shots of the Charm sow at S Squared Showpigs, which has had a significant impact on the Showpig industry. I could elaborate on the genetic opportunity here, but realistically, she’s simply good livestock. Bid high, bid often; she has the potential to create something truly special!

LOT 6 It’s always fun to bring show gilts home when they’ve finished their show careers. This particular female was successfully shown in Georgia and has not missed a beat since she’s been home. The dam of 35-12 is known as Bertha around here. Bertha was the Grand Overall Breeding gilt at the 2021 SEI Showdown. From a maternal standpoint, she should be an exceptional mother. I have no doubt that 35-12 will produce high-caliber pigs, raise them all, and be easy to sell. Being mated to Close Call, I’d say get in the left lane and hammer down. It can’t get much easier than this. Don’t miss out on a high-caliber blue female!

LOT 7 If there’s one person’s opinion I don’t take lightly, it’s my father’s. Time and time again, he proves to be right about one’s productivity or potential generating ability. With that being said, one of his favorite Gilts from this past crop was this painted-up gilt. He consistently talked about her quality while she was growing in the lot, and now as a mature female. She was never shown as a gilt, but she still possesses the bells and whistles needed in today’s show ring to grab that extra look. She’s a little different pedigreed, but Got Ur Back is a No Introduction son that the Nelson-Rushing firm used with confidence. She is out of a first litter Come On Back daughter. The Come On Back females have been extremely potent from a generating standpoint. In fact, we had a high-selling male at the NSR Fall Classic out of a Come On Back daughter. 24-1 is just getting started, so don’t miss your chance on a very uniquely bred female!

BREED YORKSHIRE DATE OF BIRTH JANUARY 2022 SERVICE SIRE DARE TO COMPARE DUE DATE 01/02/2024
LOT 8 Yorkshires, I have determined, are definitely not my specialty. I feel that this female’s genetic potential will be better utilized in someone else’s hands more appropriately than mine. Yes, she’s not bred purebred this time, but she is bred to Dare to Compare at Premium Blend. Dare has been producing many excellent females. Some of our very best replacement females are Dare to Compares and look very impressive in the lot. 5-7 is going on her third litter and maybe a bit thin, but she’s still in the prime of her life, ready to produce quality pigs. The dam of 5-7 would also be the mother of the boar TikTok at Crossroads. I purchased this gilt from Slayton as a young pig. Tik Tok’s mom has now passed on, but her daughters and great-granddaughters are still making a significant impact at the Slayton firm. In 5-7’s first litter, she had Hot Take 47-3 pigs, and I have retained a very unique daughter. She still has more to offer with a belly full of Dare to Compare pigs. Take a closer look here!

If you’ve been to my place, you’ll often hear me talk about Call The Boys or his sister, 11-2. In the spring of 2022, I was very fortunate to purchase Call The Boys and his sister as little pigs from the Slayton/Wolf firms. A lot of good has come from that and proven to be a positive investment. In the lot here, there is a pair of daughters sired by Next to Nothing out of 11-2. 11-2 was herself a successful show gilt, earning top 5 Overall honors on the ISJS as a young pig. After her show career, she came home and settled immediately to Next to Nothing. Call The Boys sister is one of the most prolific females I have on the farm when it comes to mothering ability. If you’re like me, the last thing you want to do is pull pigs or babysit a sow. She lays down, has a large litter of pigs, milks like a Holstein, and comes out of the crate ready to breed, settling every time. Now, that wouldn’t be something to brag about if her pigs weren’t of elite quality, but she continues to produce high-selling pigs in every litter. 23-11 and 23-12 are from her gilt litter, with my highest-selling male of the spring coming from it. 23-12 is bred to Prince Charming at Beaman’s, and 23-11 is bred to Close Call at DHSP. I can confidently say this should provide a significant return on investment. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to own a daughter out of the ever so great 11-2.

19-8 BREED CROSSBRED DATE OF BIRTH JANUARY 2023 SERVICE SIRE CLOSE CALL DUE DATE 01/09/2024
Knowingly, when having a bred sale, I had to offer some gilts that I absolutely did not want to sell. The particular sow lines represented behind these two gilts are what have helped shape Wellman Livestock. The nomad sow behind 19-8 originated from the RZN Cain crew, and she is a no-miss sow, consistently raising winners in every litter to date. The dam behind 17-7 is the mother of Connor Finches’ highly successful barrow in the summer of 2022. That barrow seemed to win show after show, ultimately earning Reserve Overall at the All-Iowa Showdown and 3rd Overall FFA Market at ISF. She has also produced multiple Grand and Reserve winners at the county level. Whether it’s winning banners, selling high-caliber baby pigs, or simply producing elite livestock, the dams of these gilts have excelled in all of these areas. Both 17-7 and 19-8 have the potential to improve the next generation and be cornerstone females for any program. Bred to Close Call, a boar I believe will make a significant impact, I have no doubt these females will make their mark someday. I can’t sell both, but buy this lot and choose your next foundation female!

What an incredible opportunity to position yourself for future success. We’re offering the chance to choose a gilt or gilts born in the months of November or December. One guarantee I can make is that I won’t be selling many gilts from select sows in this age group (with the exception of this lot). You will be placed at the very top of the list to select your female before anyone else. However, this selection must be made in a timely manner. Ages range from 11/1 - 12/31. Buyer may choose to double down and take two, but they cannot be from the same litter. The decision to take two may be made on the day of selection. If buyer decides to take 2nd gilt payment is due before the gilt leaves the farm. Selection must be made by no later than 2/1/2024.

First and foremost, I wanted to express my gratitude to Drake Hook for granting us the opportunity to own a part of Close Call. Conception rates have been exceptional, with large litter sizes for the sows that have farrowed. He’s just getting started, but I truly believe this is going to be a wild ride.

With current market trends of $400 to $500 per dose to utilize some of the better boars in the country, I felt it was a must for our program to invest in one that could not only produce pigs that compete at the highest level but also yield a larger return on investment. Yes, it’s early, but Close Call’s pigs show indicators of the “big ring” pieces. If you didn’t have Close Call penciled in for this past breeding season, I highly recommend getting on the books for next season. Being one of the first to utilize Close Call this past season, I felt it was essential to invest in him as he consistently delivers quality while also bringing the extras we like to discuss in today’s show ring, including the added feature with a trendy look. Close Call is a mate to Thumper, the highly successful show gilt that earned numerous banners, one of her highlights being named the Champion Overall Crossbred gilt at the 2023 NJSA SE Regional. Power is in the blood, and here’s your chance to own a female bred to the young and upcoming Close Call!
