Casa Del Fascio— Analysis I For this project, I researched, explored Giuseppe Terragni’s Casa Del Fascio in Como, Italy, and documented the relationalization of the spaces in the building by way of x-ray axonometric representation. The modularization these prismatic zones and their each coordination within the building are all dependent on its internal organization, and from this I created hierarchal analysis of the spatial tectonics over the structural tectonics.

Casa Del Fascio — Analysis II Continuing the investigation of Casa Del Fascio, I explored in this drawing the role of the columnar matrix that establishes the structural and spatial aspects of the building. This exploded axonometric drawing maps the spaces that defy conformity to the matrix, the nonrestrictive spaces that provide complexity to the internal circulation and coordination. Large conference rooms, passageways, and public spaces are hierarchized to blur the hard geometric order of the matrix and indicate shifts and spatial movement within the building.

Casa Del Fascio – Operation
This process developed more dynamically beyond documentation and in-place analysis, formalizing as “operations”. My operation upon the Casa del Fascio was projection; each facade’s fenestrations, differentiating according to the internal occupation and organization, are projected across the body of the building to create rays of lines. By doing so, a new potential for analysis upon this building is borne.

As the projections extrude across horizontally, so do vertical projections via the roof. Lines pass each other, intersect, or miss; each intersection is mapped with points and resulting lines. Because similarities exist across each facade, subsequently there are similar intersections. Each pair of facades is mapped, generating fields of different interactions. 30 x 60 Rhino/Illustrator

The rigidity of the axonometric viewpoint formalized theories of this projection operation. By implementing the experiential view and juxtaposing the intersections with the original internal organization, a better sense of the wholistic differentiation emerges.

The ultimate exploration of this intra-projection and intersection formalizes the inherent centrality of the building. Casa del Fascio can be understood through its core, historical, political, physical, and metaphysical (clarified with the operations of projection, intersection, and formalization). 36” x 90” Rhino/Illustrator
