Five simple tips to prepare for a job fair... Dress for success ! Select clothes in advance that are comfortable and professional . First impressions make a big difference and help boost your confidence , too . Know your target job . It helps to know what type of job you want before the job fair . If you can , research company websites in advance . Flexibility is a huge plus ! Bring your resume ! Whether you ' ve worked before or this is your first job , have a resume ready with your list of skills and accomplishments . What do you want an employer to know about you ? Let them know ! Communicate well . Introduce yourself to the recruiter , smile and shake hands , and give them your " 30 second commercial " ( tell them about your skills ) . Don ' t forget to ask for their business card so you can follow up . Ask good questions ! What skills or experience are required for the job ? What is the hiring process like ? Is there career mobility at your company ? How can I plug into an entry level position this summer ? A FEW THINGS TO AVOID... Don't talk negatively about former employers or exaggerate your skills / experience. Avoid saying words like "umm" or "ya know". Don't get your phone out while waiting. Do not interrupt a recruiter's conversation with another person. Wait your turn!
